Brown called Green right with only one solution remaining

1082

Scottish football has gone through months of drama and uncertainty to rescue ‘Rangers’.  Only weeks ago we were told a CVA was likely.  Once this failed the question of today’s SPL vote crystallised.

The SPL met several times to discuss this matter, even doing so before Rangers CVA failed.  Sentiment was firmly behind Newco, to the extent that some were worried they would be allowed into the league without any sanction (if one Ayrshire club had their way).  All this changed when Charles Green and Duff and Phelps agreed to challenge the SFA at the Court of Session.  At the SPL meeting following this decision the mood changed dramatically.

I then had several friends in the media rubbish my suggestion that Newco were far from certain of being voted into the SPL.  To be fair to them, my information was not coming from Neil Doncaster, whereas theirs was.  If Doncaster was so assured when speaking to the media, day after day, we can only imagine what he was saying to Green. His influence has not been helpful to the cause he championed.

Clubs, who were previously weighing up the argument, suddenly had a convincing point to consider.  Rangers going to court was the biggest own goal in their 140 year history.  Terry Butcher, eat your heart out.

After this Green was at the mercy of fortune, and the growing influence of the hawk(s) in the SPL who saw no need to create space for Newco.  In many respects, John Brown is correct.  Having gambled and failed, Green did whatever he could to accommodate but there was no way back.  Underestimate John Brown at your peril, he has his club’s interests at heart and has the fortitude to raise a phoenix from the ruins of Ibrox.  His unconventional style is easy to mock but it is just what needed (I truly believe this).

Where now for the Newco-Sevco-Rangers?  I don’t see a solution.  Sooner or later Mr Green will let his friends know they only way forward is for him to acquire an existing Scottish Football League club, rename it to something like Rangers United, and move it to Ibrox.

The toxic history would be set free and it would be game-on.  Keep your eye on Cowdenbeath.

Pal of mine was at the same gig and texted the next morn to say that after the birth of his two sons and his wedding day he couldn’t remember a better day in his life. I’ve just cheked with him again incase it was heat of the moment stuff and he stands by it…..Enjoy!

  2. Sannabhoy – don’t you believe it… I can see next season whatever league ‘Club12’ are playing in next year will all of a sudden be a priority for BBC and STV to report on as the poor dearly departed try and make their glorious rise back to where they belong. For the MSM the SPL could become a sideshow.

Any decent journalist would ask him to elaborate on the “dire consequences”.

He would then have to ask Ogilvie what they would be methinks.

Most of the times I go to Celtic Park I get a “restricted view” ticket and to be honest, with only one exception have all the tickets been pretty near perfect with little or no restriction.

The only time I had my view restricted was in lower Jock Stein Stand, first row, centre so had net in eyeline, but even then it wasn’t the worst viewing experience.

Not half as restricted as the views from the club deck though…

…you would be able to sit there all next year and not se any football played at all

  8. sannabhoy – Jolly good – too early for me to pick that up at this time of day!

Like we know, whatever happens, even if they end up playing ‘glamour’ friendlies against teams no-one has ever heard of, rest assured the blanket coverage will be nauseating. Every situation and every result, especially in Eurpoe, will be compared and contrasted with what ‘they’ would have done. The stench of their carcass will infect the game for years.

please fellow Celtic fans be aware that a, “Wearing of the green” – type of culture my be around the corner. Scotland’s sectarian marching season might have a sinister element to cause the requisite levels of concern amongst innocent Tims going about their every day business.

The worst view I’ve EVER had in a sports stadium was from a seat under the club deck. It was like watching a match from inside a post box, you couldn’t see the rest of the stadium or the nearside touchline and the whole atmosphere disappeared, truly appalling.

I fear for the younger element of the Celtic support, mant of whom have not seen the huns in full vicious-mode.

you only have to look at what they did to the city of Manchester in 2008 all because a TV broke down.

What has just happened to the huns is off the reichter scale. imo.

If Phil Mac’s prediction that they will be out of football all together for a 1 year period then, heaven help us.

I had a restricted view in the North Stand way back in 90s.

    Well worth the money.

Quite shocking comments from Regan, effectively saying “tribalism must be preserved at all costs, the neanderthals must have their entertainment”. No, Mr Regan, there’s light at the end of a long dark tunnel of sectarian hatred and violence here and some of us – the vast majority of fans in Scotland in fact – welcome it. “¡No pasarán!

  22. CELTIC Football Club is delighted to confirm the signing of Fraser Forster on a four-year contract. The goalkeeper, who has been on loan from Newcastle United for the last two seasons, has made his move to the Scottish champions a permanent one.

Forster, along with Lukasz Zaluska, claimed a new SPL clean sheet record last season, with 25 shut-outs between them. And in only conceding six league goals at Celtic Park, it was also the Hoops’ best defensive record at home for 90 years.

Forster spoke exclusively to the official website and expressed his delight at the new deal. “This is a massive club and I feel like this is a step forward in my career,” he said. “I want to win things as a team and improve as an individual and I think I will be able to do that at Celtic.

“It also gives me a great opportunity to play in the Champions League if we get through the qualifiers. I really enjoyed my time in Europe last season so I will be looking forward to it if it happens again.

“I enjoyed last season as a whole and we have a great young squad here. The players and the coaches make it an enjoyable place to be and I like being a part of this team.”

Manager, Neil Lennon, is also pleased about securing the keeper´s signature. “We are delighted that Fraser has committed his future to the club and we believe he will be a magnificent addition to the squad,” he said.

“He gives us that continuity so this is something we are really pleased about. He is a top-class keeper.”

I know what they are like. (I mean I REALLY KNOW)

I can’t say any more than that, but I have experience of them at their worst, whilst working in, just let say, in a certain capacity.

I better shut up before I get my self in the shengus.

  24. Also, whats up with NEWCO and colours! Craig Whyte, Charles Green, John Brown and now Ian Black!

  25. I believe that the nervousness of our fans at Celtic Park has led to a lower level of performance from affected players. Naturally, many points were lost because of that nervy atmoshere. I am now wondering if the demise of der Hun will lead to a confidence among the support which will lead to an increased level on the playing field. Also, of course, there is the possibility that the MIB will enforce the Rules fairly as there is no need to ensure a Hun Title. That, too, would be greatly to our benefit. I am really looking forward to next season now.

Almost everyone of my fellow Celts friends would describe me as being

    paranoid – mentally unhinged etc

but, I always take myself back to the late Desmond White’s summing up of the mindsets of the Celtic support when asked by BBC Reporting Scotland’s Paddie Christie after the two english based Celtic fans, invaded the Old Trafford pitch and attacked two Rapid Vienna players.

PC asked DW – “Do you think that the Celtic support are being a little paranoid about the media’s reporting of the Old Trafford incidents ?”

DW responded – “I wouldn’t say that the Celtic supporters are paranoid. It’s more a case of the Celtic support being ALIVE to the situation!”

    Well said Mr White.

That is how I would describe myself as a Celtic fan who lives in the west of stinking Scotland – Alive To The Situation!
