Brown called Green right with only one solution remaining

1082

Scottish football has gone through months of drama and uncertainty to rescue ‘Rangers’.  Only weeks ago we were told a CVA was likely.  Once this failed the question of today’s SPL vote crystallised.

The SPL met several times to discuss this matter, even doing so before Rangers CVA failed.  Sentiment was firmly behind Newco, to the extent that some were worried they would be allowed into the league without any sanction (if one Ayrshire club had their way).  All this changed when Charles Green and Duff and Phelps agreed to challenge the SFA at the Court of Session.  At the SPL meeting following this decision the mood changed dramatically.

I then had several friends in the media rubbish my suggestion that Newco were far from certain of being voted into the SPL.  To be fair to them, my information was not coming from Neil Doncaster, whereas theirs was.  If Doncaster was so assured when speaking to the media, day after day, we can only imagine what he was saying to Green. His influence has not been helpful to the cause he championed.

Clubs, who were previously weighing up the argument, suddenly had a convincing point to consider.  Rangers going to court was the biggest own goal in their 140 year history.  Terry Butcher, eat your heart out.

After this Green was at the mercy of fortune, and the growing influence of the hawk(s) in the SPL who saw no need to create space for Newco.  In many respects, John Brown is correct.  Having gambled and failed, Green did whatever he could to accommodate but there was no way back.  Underestimate John Brown at your peril, he has his club’s interests at heart and has the fortitude to raise a phoenix from the ruins of Ibrox.  His unconventional style is easy to mock but it is just what needed (I truly believe this).

Where now for the Newco-Sevco-Rangers?  I don’t see a solution.  Sooner or later Mr Green will let his friends know they only way forward is for him to acquire an existing Scottish Football League club, rename it to something like Rangers United, and move it to Ibrox.

The toxic history would be set free and it would be game-on.  Keep your eye on Cowdenbeath.

  1. Where’s oor Delia? Busy writing press releases? Should Sevco gate share in Div 3? I think we need a debate on this…

    You are showing yourself up.

I have just finished work for the day, editing a book on King Solomon’s temple (Blackwell-Wiley this autumn, strongly recommended).

It’s kind of corrupting really- I mean corrupting in the sense that you drag a discussion down into the pit you seem to live in – that you perpetrate a lie about me rather than address an argument.

So, liar, I think if Newco are in SFL division X they should share gate money. I think gate money in all the Scottish professional leagues should be shared.

Aaaaah, it is a dark place to try to look into their minds. I know they’ve gone, you know they’ve gone. In that dark place they know they’ve gone.

If they buy Cowdenbeath, they, their MSM, and the uninformed will still claim continuity. We shall concede no ground on this – and I’m sure the Green Brigade will do a banner to help us remember.

We’ve said integrity out loud, again :o)

Doncaster must be away by Friday, he has tonight compromised the spl, by making a statement the spl have no right making.

The issue is with the sfa, Doncaster is representing the sfa against the interests of the spl.

The spl have shown integrity today and must now carry this forward and demand the same from the sfa.

Removing Doncaster by Friday will be all the sfl need to see, the spl clubs are serious about integrity, the renesance is here, smile bhoys :o)

    PFayr..,

I really believe if he goes before the weekend, the sfl will vote the same.

All eyes will then turn on the sfa and the rule book, only now are people begining to see how many “as the board deem fit” rules.

Articles of association need rationalised and simplified, but thats just my opinion :o)

  21. Awe_Naw_No_Annoni_Oan_Anaw_Noo on

Green is trying it on. He has no money. The SPL know this and that the brand is toxic. No money. No credibility move on.

BDO will be in soon and it will all start to unravel again. SPL know that they are a bunch of flannelers. No substance. Nothing but danger on every level.

Then the purge of the footballing bodies will start. A repeat of this circus will never be tolerated. The toxicity of the SPL brand needs readdressing. No substance Green blew it today. Sure he did. He showed his hand.

Subtext is threats of social unrest unless he is accomodated being carried out by the usual suspects. Hence the appeal to the SFL.

Celtic are not being conveniently death in the hope of a quick phoenix. It’s too quick.

  28. Canamalar,

does todays vote and statement from Celtic encourage you in any way to buy a season ticket,

not trying to cause a fight just curious ;-))

  29. I normally lurk now, having my old name changed when the board changed, but have benefitted a fair bit from the posts so just want to say thanks. I am on nights, so missed todays events and the board has brought me up to speed.

I gave up on the rags and phone ins a long time ago. I refuse to voluntarily anger myself and generate them advertising revenue at the same time. Tonight I decided to do likewise with the television news (I’ve known this for years but its more difficult when it gets flung in your room)

They tripped themselves up so many times, trying to say rangers and newco and make them sound like the same and different things, it was like something out of 1984. This may have been said many times before, but I had to explain to my old dear that when it comes to ‘rangers’, if they say a lie often enough you will believe it. This is and has been my concern all along.

Anyway, I don’t get to as many games as I used to. Some seasons I get to 5 some I get to 8. I go when I’m off work and when I can afford to. So I can’t promise to go to more games, I would anyway.

So I will do something I have not done in years. I will buy a strip. I gave up buying strips cos I innevitably end up wearing a classic one from about 1994, but I shall get a new one.

Now the fav is cowdenbieth, but thats in a low league, so they have come up with a master plan.

If one of their hundercover agents has infiltrated another organisatio and can anger all other supporters enough, theres a good chance the value of infected organisation will drop allowing a relatively cheap bid, now, wonder whose involved highter up the ladder, no excrement sherlock moment coming up :o)
