Brown called Green right with only one solution remaining

1082

Scottish football has gone through months of drama and uncertainty to rescue ‘Rangers’.  Only weeks ago we were told a CVA was likely.  Once this failed the question of today’s SPL vote crystallised.

The SPL met several times to discuss this matter, even doing so before Rangers CVA failed.  Sentiment was firmly behind Newco, to the extent that some were worried they would be allowed into the league without any sanction (if one Ayrshire club had their way).  All this changed when Charles Green and Duff and Phelps agreed to challenge the SFA at the Court of Session.  At the SPL meeting following this decision the mood changed dramatically.

I then had several friends in the media rubbish my suggestion that Newco were far from certain of being voted into the SPL.  To be fair to them, my information was not coming from Neil Doncaster, whereas theirs was.  If Doncaster was so assured when speaking to the media, day after day, we can only imagine what he was saying to Green. His influence has not been helpful to the cause he championed.

Clubs, who were previously weighing up the argument, suddenly had a convincing point to consider.  Rangers going to court was the biggest own goal in their 140 year history.  Terry Butcher, eat your heart out.

After this Green was at the mercy of fortune, and the growing influence of the hawk(s) in the SPL who saw no need to create space for Newco.  In many respects, John Brown is correct.  Having gambled and failed, Green did whatever he could to accommodate but there was no way back.  Underestimate John Brown at your peril, he has his club’s interests at heart and has the fortitude to raise a phoenix from the ruins of Ibrox.  His unconventional style is easy to mock but it is just what needed (I truly believe this).

Where now for the Newco-Sevco-Rangers?  I don’t see a solution.  Sooner or later Mr Green will let his friends know they only way forward is for him to acquire an existing Scottish Football League club, rename it to something like Rangers United, and move it to Ibrox.

The toxic history would be set free and it would be game-on.  Keep your eye on Cowdenbeath.

    Club Statement

    Posted July 4, 2012

Due to speculation surrounding the issue of “Rangers” and its possible admission to the SFL, the Board of Cowdenbeath FC wishes to clarify the following.

At the regular monthly Board Meeting held on Monday 2nd July 2012, the Board of Cowdenbeath resolved that it would support any application made by “Rangers” to join the SFL. It would not support any attempt to admit “Rangers” into the First Division of the SFL.

Today, “Rangers” have been excluded from the SPL.

At an Emergency Board Meeting held at Central Park tonight (4th July 2012) the Board again considered the matter.

The Board decided that it would support any application by “Rangers” to join the SFL but would vote against the present proposal which, amongst other matters, would admit “Rangers” directly into the First Division of the SFL.

This decision has been taken in the interests of football and the best interests of Cowdenbeath FC.

A Board spokesman said “If integrity in our game is to survive, then Rangers must start off SFL life in the Third Division. This is an SPL problem but the Clubs of that league have taken their decision for reasons which they must explain to all Scottish football supporters. The SPL and SFA should have resolved this long before now. They have tried to pass the buck to the SFL clubs and have tried to force them to accept “Rangers” into the First Division – to provide the greatest benefit to the SPL. This lacks any integrity and casts a dark shadow over our game. Cowdenbeath FC condemns this approach. The Board is in no doubt that our stance is consistent with integrity and the long term financial future of our Club. We ask all supporters of what ever Club, who share our views, to rally round and back us in the Season ahead”.

Chairman Donald Findlay added – “Speaking for myself, and myself alone, it is clear to me that people at the highest levels of our game have tried to hold a gun to my head and the heads of my colleagues. That will never work. But I have a long memory and will not forget what they tried to do and the way they tried to bend me, and this Club, to their will. That will never be allowed to happen”

A ‘transfer of membership’ being proposed. Not an issuing of a new membership NOTE.

Punished yes. But, clearly that can’t involve suspension or expulsion because that would not have them in Div 1 for a year NOTE.

Appelate Tribunal. Why not reconvened? see above.

If SFL vote Div 3 Regan says SFA will go for SPL 2.

This is where Celtic (and others of like mind if there are really any) need to step in. The executive officers can only plot and hatch this IF THEIR MASTERS ARE IN AGREEMENT.

This my friends will be the BIGGY.

Why do folk think we will fill it in the 3rd division every week against Anna and East Striling when we have Salim Kerkar and Kirk broadfoot (or worse) in the team? ”

The above was posted by a hurting Hun on FF regarding them filling Ibrox in Div 3.

I think he makes a wee “freudian” slip in the 00’s as he says they couldn’t fill the TEAM …..I believe he was thinking about 2012-2013 in that moment.

  20. So it’s now the whole of Scottish society as we know it that will crumble into post apocalyptic anarchy if Sevco aren’t allowed back in. We will all devolve into hacking each others brains out with rusty pick axes if such a thing as sporting integrity is followed.
