Brown called Green right with only one solution remaining

1082

Scottish football has gone through months of drama and uncertainty to rescue ‘Rangers’.  Only weeks ago we were told a CVA was likely.  Once this failed the question of today’s SPL vote crystallised.

The SPL met several times to discuss this matter, even doing so before Rangers CVA failed.  Sentiment was firmly behind Newco, to the extent that some were worried they would be allowed into the league without any sanction (if one Ayrshire club had their way).  All this changed when Charles Green and Duff and Phelps agreed to challenge the SFA at the Court of Session.  At the SPL meeting following this decision the mood changed dramatically.

I then had several friends in the media rubbish my suggestion that Newco were far from certain of being voted into the SPL.  To be fair to them, my information was not coming from Neil Doncaster, whereas theirs was.  If Doncaster was so assured when speaking to the media, day after day, we can only imagine what he was saying to Green. His influence has not been helpful to the cause he championed.

Clubs, who were previously weighing up the argument, suddenly had a convincing point to consider.  Rangers going to court was the biggest own goal in their 140 year history.  Terry Butcher, eat your heart out.

After this Green was at the mercy of fortune, and the growing influence of the hawk(s) in the SPL who saw no need to create space for Newco.  In many respects, John Brown is correct.  Having gambled and failed, Green did whatever he could to accommodate but there was no way back.  Underestimate John Brown at your peril, he has his club’s interests at heart and has the fortitude to raise a phoenix from the ruins of Ibrox.  His unconventional style is easy to mock but it is just what needed (I truly believe this).

Where now for the Newco-Sevco-Rangers?  I don’t see a solution.  Sooner or later Mr Green will let his friends know they only way forward is for him to acquire an existing Scottish Football League club, rename it to something like Rangers United, and move it to Ibrox.

The toxic history would be set free and it would be game-on.  Keep your eye on Cowdenbeath.

  1. Now don’t laugh but…

If I were a decent RFCIA supporter (and I know many) I would be apoplectic about the slur and be demanding his immediate removal from office.

In effect he is saying because Im a RFCIA supporter I will be a law breaker (I know, I know).

Here is a subject which will unite fans everywhere lol

Old hippies like me have ever been obsessed with Tolkien, a devout and righteous man of the one true faith by the way.

One of the things I failed to get about the Lord of the Rings, first time round, was the central irony that in defeating the Enemy by destroying his Ring, the forces of light, and their own rings, would also diminish and pass on.

    Interconnectedness, you see.

I was thinking that as I drove home tonight from work listening to Stewart Cosgrove ripping James Traynor a new one.

In being satisfied that the Hun has met a just and fair demise, thus far, was I also seeing the beginning of the end for us? Hiuns, orcs, Us , elves. You get the drift.

I have to say, though, that it still felt damn good.

    Good riddance.

    Good enough for them.

Good for the SPL chairmen who found their courage hiding down the back of the settee when we all, admit it, still feared there was a Houdini like escape for the baddies still to emerge.

To further belabour the Tolkien motif, I feel like Theoden on the Pelennor:

‘ A grim morn, and a glad day, and a golden sunset’

    Bye bye Huns.

    You know what ?

Celtic’s statement tonight said this is in the hands of the SFA and not the SFL. If this is what that means I am against it utterly.

So to clarify, I renew my vow NEVER to attend a match in any SPL 2 setup or whatever such an invention calls itself.

    Paul,

Been on e twitter feed, and read one you retweeted. Said Celtic fans go out and buy a season ticket. go get one, back your club.

Given we all want a just, honest, clean, competitive game, that message shoud go out to all fans, of all clubs, and I sincerely hope they take up the challenge.

Can you imagine large crowds at every league match, at every club?

Should that not be the focus and the starting point for the football associations of this country?

Providing we sort out the leaders of our game, then league reconstruction, who knows. Maybe we might just have a game to relish and be proud of. A fine sentiment mate, hopefully it will happen.

Sometimes I wonder if poor Charles Green should be alound out.

Nearly every disaster has meant the statement “we were led to believe” being trotted out as some kind of excuse for what was glaringly obvious to all with the slightest intelligence and knowledge of what has been transpiring over the last number of months.

Would love to record him and the now seriously tarnished Regan discussing the best way forward for our society and national game. Road crash TV indeed.

Ex – Hun phoned Talksport today and immediately said ” no problems in Div 3 ,if we played in the street there would be 50,000 on the pavement” less than 30 seconds later , same caller tells us the at least “15,000 would be there every week in Div 3 ,and at least 30,000 in Div 1…….”

This is the type of zoomer that Bomber brown is relying on?

  7. I’m happy with today’ events.

    Two things mattered to me:-

    1) That they were blocked in their attempt to get into the SPL.

    2) That Celtic voted NO.

The game in Scotland is shot to bits, it’s in tatters, as highlighted by the chairman of Raith Rovers, the 2 statements from Clyde FC and the continual ineptness and mismanagement of Regan and Doncaster.

The restructuring is going to take time and shouldn’t be rushed, it won’t happen overnight and if the last few weeks have emphasised anything, it’s that the game must take into account the views and opinions of supporters.

Banished forever or division 3 would be the cherry on the cake but for now I’m more than content with developments.

Just poppin in with one comment before bed

This is getting farcical. “social unrest”? Is Regan some sort of Social Engineer now? What does he think will happen? Clumps of orange-clad bigots waddling through the streets spewing sectarian bile? Letter-bombs and bullets through the post. Does he even believe our manager could be assaulted during a game, and the perpetrator walk free. Or maybe he thinks that Celtic supporters will get their throat cut at Brigton cross.

This whole saga has gone beyond surreal.

How about the various Supporters Associations getting together?

    1) They convene a special meeting of all SPL and SFL supporter associations.

    2) they ballot their members on the removal of Reneging, Doomcaster, Longshanks and Ogilvie.

    3) They take those findings to the clubs with a warning of targeted boycott/strike action unless the bampots are removed.

Disgusting that the newspaper ‘pulled’ the Ragen statement….

…….however, I think he is right. He shouldn’t have said it as part of a statement to influence the SFL. In fact, he should’nt be trying to influence them at all. The SFL chairmen are perfectly capable of assessing / adjudicating on the situation, as were the SPL chairmen…….dangerous strategy altogether……

……..but, again, he is right……we are dealing here with very dangerous elements within our society……we all know that…

Anyway, I’ve been reading back and I share the joy of every Celtic supporter in the World ……..We have been shafted for years and, hopefully now, we can enjoy a day out at the football, as can EVERY other Scottish team supporter …….I will also be attending games at Hampden now…..been boycotting them for 20 odd years …… LOL

Young Sammy resplendent in Green & White, not just any Green & White, but Glasgow’s Green & White, jumps up on his Old Granpa’s knee. Turning to his Granpa Billy the young lad smiles that smile that only Granpa’s get to see and says “Granpa. Can you tell me that story again? The one about that football team you supported in the olden days. What happened to them Granpa?”. Granpa Billy smiling through gritted teeth at wee Sammy bellows “aye son, they wurra days . The Glesga Rangers. We wurra People.” Wee Sammy seeing a tinge of sadness in his Granpa’s eyes turns to ole Billy and gives him a big hug. “Granpa” he says “Who are the people now?” Ole Billy looks at him, tears welling in his eyes. “Is it The Green Brigade?” asks wee Sammy. “I’m going to be junior Capo one day Granpa.” Granpa Billy turns to look at wee Sammy. Smiles at him and says “Oh that sounds fun Sammy.” All the while, hidden from his grandson, the adrenalin and anger rushes through ole Billy’s veins. “Sammy” he says. “Granpa’s going to have to go to the toilet”. Putting wee Sammy down he runs across the room, out the door, along the hall storming through the toilet door slamming it shut behind him. Getting to the toilet just in time he spews down the lavy. Just as he’s half way through his spew his guts begin to rumble and churn. Ole Billy realising his predicament grabs the bin, drops his trouser and sits down as both ends explode like Mount Visuvius in 79 AD. Thirty minutes later Granpa Billy walks back into his living room. Wee Sammy runs across the room grasping at ole Billy’s legs. “Are you ok Granpa.” he says hugging him tightly. “I’m fine son. I’m fine.” says Granpa. Cursing under his breath Granpa mutters to himself. “******* Celtic. ******* Green Brigade.”
