Since Jock Stein’s famous comment, “If I had two players to choose from, a Catholic and a Protestant, I’d sign the Protestant, as that would deny Rangers two players”, Celtic managers have had an eye on their opponents across the city when making buying decisions. Of course, until the late 80s there was zero chance of Polish footballers like Pawel Brozek being entertained at Ibrox, but in these enlightened times footballers, irrespective of religion, are welcome, or at least employed, by all Scottish clubs.
Pawel, who is expected to breeze through his medical this morning, will formally become a Celtic player this afternoon and train with the first team squad tomorrow. He aims to become first choice striker and maintain his place in the Polish national team ahead of Euro 2012. He joins an on-form Celtic full of confidence and purpose and is the team’s third signing this month after Mikael Lustig and Rabiu Ibrahim.

Hooper IMO, note in my opinion, doesn’t work hard enough for the team. He is a good player, but he could be so much better if he worked harder for the team. Henrik wasn’t just the best striker in Britain during his time with us, he was the best player because he was the complete team player. While I’m not saying Hooper is anywhere near Henriks class, he could be a lot better player if he shared his work ethic!
Anthony Stokes, 9 goals, 8 assists in 22 SPL games this season. 6 goals in 4 cup ties and 2 in 5 european games. I would suggest he’s going nowhere. Stokesy will be at CP for many years to come.

morning bhoys . well i admit to not being a big fan of anthony stokes , or sammi for that matter , i think we could get better than these two bhoys . Garry hooper playing with a better strike partner would imho prove to be the the best striker we have . I firmly believe that neil is building a real good side here , but i also feel that improvements can be made, and that if in any position better can be brought in , then it should be . We are not finishing teams off the way our play deserves and mark my words not doing so gives the honest mistake a chance to show its head . I have read back on the posts re the game yesterday , falkirk played exceptionally well and we didnt get it all our own way as many on here have said , we had a few dicky moments in defence and im sure the coaching staff will point these out , but not to sound to gloomy were going along nicely and with a wee bit of tinkering here and there we should be a right good side and hopefully one that is purpose for europe.

On yesterdays performance though I’d say that Cha and Mulgrew are the obvious weak links and would need replaced if we are to have a serious go in qualifying in next years CL.
Before those who love Mulgrew with blinded loyalty have a go let me explain. I do think he is a worthy squad player and SPL level but I have now lost count on the amount of times that he gets caught on the ball. It seems in nearly every game he allows a striker to close him down and lose the ball by having his pass deflected. I say this having watched him do it all last season and well over a dozen times already again this season. Why he does it I don’t understand, you’d think he’d learn but doesn’t seem to be the case. Added with the fact he isn’t blessed with lightning pace means the panic he causes in SPL would be far lethal in CL. Like the guy and admire his contributions elsewhere but if we were being honest you’s admit you bite you nails if he had the ball at his feet in CL when doing his Quarter back look upfield.
If only you could do an experiment like ‘The Fly’ where you’d put Cha & Mulgrew in to merge a very fast tall playing CH.

You’re right it is only opinions, but I seriously can’t believe that anyone thinks Stokes has a better work rate than Gary Hooper. I don’t recall our manager speaking about Gary’s overall game the way he did about Tony yesterday.
Something that really annoys me about our team is the lack of movement from middle to front when trying to break down packed defences, especially at CP. Naka was brilliant at finding space and giving team mates options. Most of this lot are too static, but watch Gary, he’s always looking for some room to receive a pass while others like Tony just stand waiting on the ball coming to them.
I hope for better performances from both of them, as their goals will bring us the title.

I too felt Hooper had a good game yesterday.
He uses his strength really well at times. I think his all round game is under rated. Put Forrest through with a perectly weighted pass and the wee man should have scored. He did his fair share of back tracking as well.

I like both Stephen Hunt and Jonny Russell, Russell in particular is a comer who ticks all the Celtic boxes.
But with the similarity of both players (wide men, on the left) am I the only one who thinks the Big Greek Striker/Winger might be on his way?

Here we are sitting pretty at the top of teh league having just comfortably won a potentially tricky cup semi final and we are bickering about how poor or inadequate some of our players are.

I don’t think we need Hunt or Russell, even if a squad player leaves.
We have Wee Jamesy, Broonie, Sammi, KC, Paddy, Joe16Led*, and now Rabiu Ibrahim – and that’s before we count the youth players soon to be knocking on the door.
*I prefer Joe in the middle, but when Kayal and Vic are fit I think Lenny likes to play him on the left.

I think we have two good strikers and a good partnership in Hooper and Stokes. Hooper is stronger and quicker but Stokes makes up for this by being a more intelligent player.
Worth bearing in mind that both will turn 24 this year and are better players at that age than Henrik was, over to them how the rest of their careers pan out then!

Stephen Hunt, now we are talking, thought our midfield was shocking yesterday and Stephen would make a huge impact.
Broonie yesterday in the first half was a one man midfield, not good enough considering Commons was on the bench.
Stokes would be a top player if he could pass as well as he could shoot.

If you remember the last game against the huns, Kayal looked like he was ready to kick Hoopers baws quite a few times for not tracking back and helping out the midfield.
I like Hooper (with a bit more hard work he could be a really great player) but has he the desire to take the step to the next level?

Morning all – good to be in the final even though we weren’t at our best yesterday.
Reading some of the opinions of Stokes and Hooper, it’s very clear to see how different we all view the same game. Over this season I think Stokes’ work rate this season has been a vast improvement on last season and I was surprised at Lenny’s comments about having told him up his game – don’t think he’s going anyhere though.
Hooper can be fantastic but, yesterday aside, doesn’t work as hard off the ball as Stokes in my opinion. I think they’re both a little inconsistent but that’s what you get with younger players.
Shoot me down and call me a currant but that’s my take on the strikers.
Glad we’ve got Brozek in – great scoring record in Poland and more experienced than what we have already so should do the business here – fingers crossed.
As for the dark side – this transfer window is the funniest ever and gazzumping them for Brozek just sticks the needle in further – loving it!
