Since Jock Stein’s famous comment, “If I had two players to choose from, a Catholic and a Protestant, I’d sign the Protestant, as that would deny Rangers two players”, Celtic managers have had an eye on their opponents across the city when making buying decisions. Of course, until the late 80s there was zero chance of Polish footballers like Pawel Brozek being entertained at Ibrox, but in these enlightened times footballers, irrespective of religion, are welcome, or at least employed, by all Scottish clubs.
Pawel, who is expected to breeze through his medical this morning, will formally become a Celtic player this afternoon and train with the first team squad tomorrow. He aims to become first choice striker and maintain his place in the Polish national team ahead of Euro 2012. He joins an on-form Celtic full of confidence and purpose and is the team’s third signing this month after Mikael Lustig and Rabiu Ibrahim.

Hunt…Russell….
Neither would walk into our 1st 11. Our squad, especially in midfield is huge, so it sounds as if any of these boys would be replacements…..
Please not for the under-utilised Kris Commons, one of the best players we have at the club…..
With Jelavic looking set to go I’ve more convinced than ever that kris boyd will end up back at rangers.
rangers can drag the jelavic sale out to the last minute, safe in the knowledge that boyd can sign after the window closes, as a free agent.
With billy davies out of a job they’ll have no competition for boyd’s signature.

Mark Wilson possibly but more likely one of our younger players who isn’t likely going to get a place in our team.

Too many players, too big a squad, too many offers being made………
PL lost the plot ;))))
Sammi’s agent has recommended Patrick Helmes from Wolfsburg to Celtic.
He signed for €8m this time last year but seems to have struggled scoring only 3 times in 14 games.

Carrigan 11.11
Stokes been an incredible assister of goals since he’s arrived, so he must know something about passing a ball.

He used to be one of my Football Manager staples but he could be quite similar to Browak.
We say “that the more things change the more they stay the same” and “those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. Does anybody else think der huns CURRENT signing policy is a “permanent embarrassment and occassional disgrace”. The next couple of days could be fun.
Tech help please
I have to use internet explorer to manage my website, but it is not right and i can’t find it in the program files to delete it and download it again, any suggestions

I don’t wish to be a killjoy but Jock Stein never ever said that.
The whole thing comes from a hypothetical tale in Danny McGrain’s first biography and it has developed mythical status ever since.

“With Jelavic looking set to go I’ve more convinced than ever that kris boyd will end up back at rangers.”
I agree with that 100%.
All round that will be a good piece of business for the dark side.
Good debate this morning about the respective merits of Stokesy and Hoops.
transfermarket.co.uk has some good stats, and it’s worth a look.
Stokes has scored 36 in 66 games for us, Hooper 38 in 68. What is interesting is in assists, Stokes has 27 , Hooper 17. I’d say most of Stokes were for Hooper.
Both are young, both started at big EPL clubs and didn’t make it, and both are keen to improve. I think Neil Lennon is handling both well, they are different characters and I think Stokesy might just need a wee bit of a kick every now and then from the gaffer, but it seems to work.
Brozek will have to do well to oust either, but, unlike in 2009 , we now have an alternative if either of our 2 main men start to struggle for goals. Looks like good business to me.
quite remarkeable the amount of unionists on this blog. how can anyone pass up the opportunity for future generations of scots not to be ruled by tory old etonians, new labour turncoats all with a london and southern england political agenda? how can anyone forget thatcher? and tony blair? and now cameron?
for all the faults of the SNP, they should only be looked upon as a mechanism for scotland to become independant, once they have achieved that then we can vote for a party which fits our own personal political ideologies.
we wont get another chance, that is for sure

No official bid for Jelavic has been made from Everton.

Don’t know if any truth in this boy, on Celtic rumours.
SonofDan:
I reckon Mark Wilson or Paddy. No basis of this other than the confused machinations of my drink addled mind.
Here’s a question for you all:
We have four right backs in Lustig, Matthews, Wilson and Cha. Which 2 will we keep?
I reckon Cha is definitely out the door at the first opportunity – would run all day but not got a football brain and terrible final ball.
Lustig is just in the door and (you would think) is going to be first choice. Do we cash in on the interest in Matthews? I’d hope not as I think he’ll be a tremendous player for us. Plus Wilson’s best days are behind him as a player and I’m sure he has said he won’t be able to play for much longer due to a knee or hip problem.
What, sirs, say you?
Tombola
I see the Daily Rangers is flying a fantasy piece about us today.
Apparently Lawwell is in Holland talking to Twente about Marc Janko.
The sticking point? A £4 million transfer fee … and Porto.
I’m going to go out on a limb here and say it’s Keevins/Jackson typical nonsense.
Even though we could easily have been 5-1 up at half time yesterday, sorry make that 5-0 because if Tony had taken his chance from the cutback from Hooper (Nae Pace) Falkirk wouldn’t have been in a position to score, I think the following Celtic players should be sacked for gross incompetence for the fact they could only beat the team they were put up against convincingly:-
Fraser Forster
Izzie/Mulgrew
Mulgrew/Wanyama
Rogne
Cha/Mathews
Ledley
Wanyama/Ki
Brown
Forrest
Hooper
Stokes/Commons
Rediculous to think you should beat what your put up against with conviction.

The problem with the above happening, is that Boyd would command a similar/higher salary to what Jelavic is currently on.
He also doesn’t want to come back to Rangers under the current regime

I’m not up on Computers but I deleted Internet explorer last week. what I don was go into control panel then programmes then deleted it from there.

For Hooper, do you mean Spurs when he was there until 14 and played a total of 20 mins in a trial game? After that he had non-league football before playing in the Championship and then making move to Celtic.

#StJohnstone boss Steve Lomas wants to take #Celtic youngster James Keatings on loan
TMWTL – One thing rangers will be making very clear in any negotiations with boyd, they can definitely improve on his current salary, but not by much!

Very ,very wet —- way down south.
For what it’s worth , I thought we were very poor yesterday. The ” Officiating ” was not fit for purpose [ seems to be obligatory in Scotland ]
Interesting discussion on last night’s Serie A Highlights program- Much talk of it being a quiet transfer window , hard times, debt , crisis, overpriced players etc . Things got interesting when the discussion moved on to UEFA’s Financial Fair Play thing- several of the pundits seemed to take it for granted that the European big boys would simply opt for keeping UEFA sweet by fielding teams that met UEFA’s requirements in UEFA competition whilst playing their first choice team in a competition organized / managed and controlled by the big boys themselves.
James Forrest is Lennon says:
James do we have a plan in place if the SPL try and ease Newco back in to the SPL?
I love buying papers for the footi these days… Mon the hoops!!!

Hail Hail
Morning All,
I thought yesterday we were pedestrian at times, no invention from midfield, big Vic had a mare in midfield in the first half. Stokes get criticism on the blog but not from me, terrifific free kick and always there or thereabouts when it comes to getting into the six yard box to pick up scraps. He will only get better.
Pawel Brozek looks good on YouTube (who doesn’t) so looks a steal if we can get him at the end of the season for £650K if all goes well.
Transfer window for me has been fruitful, international right back, international striker, a young creative potential and a bosman to start next season. If nothing else transpires in, I won’t be disappointed.
Have managed to arrange to be in Taiwan for the League Cup Final, I really need to sort out my busines travel around the football!
Mon the Hoops!
Hail Hail!

Morning,
Interesting times and the hun is the gift that keeps on giving. Nice touch from Lenny nicking the Polish boy. We mustn’t be complacent though, they aint dead yet (although they don’t look so well).
We must beat those pesky ICT boys at the weekend – I will be relieved if and when we do so.
It’s laughable the way that they are striking out at their supposed “enemies”. They are beginning to realise that they are not “the people”. They never were, because if they were, they wouldn’t have had to say so. It must be confusing for them.
As far as I can see, their current list of “enemies” now stands at:
The Record
The Herald
Radio Clyde/ Real radio
The BBC
UEFA
FARE (natch)
Phil and RTC (ok, I’ll give them that)
Strathclyde Police
The SFA
FIFA
The Scottish Government
John Grieg and Walter!
All previous incumbents of the Rangers Board (especially Martin Bain)
The Scottish legal establishment
Graham Speirs (the courageous and urbane journalist)
Billy Dodds
Sir David Murray
The list goes on and the only one that is apparently still on their side is…
Step forward Craig Whyte!
It’s pleasing how little dignity they are showing as they slide into oblivion and even more pleasing that they are fully aware how much we are all enjoying it.
And the best is yet to come.
Lastly, it must sicken them to witness how contagious and joyous is the nature of our support compared to theirs.
They think that “Penny Arcade” in some ways annoys us with its “Sash” undertone.
What they don’t know is that we think it’s just gash.
Hail hail

Mort – I did mean when he was at Spurs. It wasn’t a criticism. I was making a point that both players had enough about them at an early age to be with a big club. They are now at another big club, via differing routes, and look to me like they are making the most of that opportunity.

We certainly don’t need Stephen Hunt.
His strengths are/were a bit of pace and aggression. Both ,especially his pace, is on the wane.
His weakness is nae brains: a headless chicken.
What we DO need is a player who can read the game from the midfield and link with our strikers.
Someone like Ibrihim, if he can live up to his reputation.
hen1rik:
I hope the club does. I’ve already suggested what we SHOULD do, but whether we will or not remains to be seen. There appear to be two options;
1) We hand in our notice and petition UEFA to find us another league, making it clear we will start in the lowest tier if needed (I’m thinking England obviously, but let them draw their own conclusions as to that.)
or
2) We take the option I would prefer, and we announce our intention to sue everyone involved in depriving us of income over the period of Rangers EBT scheme, as well as the SPL for damaging our reputation and that of the league. We start exploring legal avenues to take down the whole structure, and at the same time tell UEFA we want out of here … and we dare UEFA to enforce the punishment we know they will … which is to punish the SFA and the whole Scottish game for our stance.
Their involvement, if it will not come voluntarily, will need to be forced.
as far as i am aware the turkish club still holds boyds registration
