Two years ago I had a memorable journey from one end of Poland to the other, mostly in silent prayer that our man from Poland would slow down, to check out a few footballers, including Wisla Krakow striker, Pawel Brozek, who obliged with a goal.
Pawel has played mostly as a lone striker, he can hold the ball up and bring others into the game. He’s not a particularly tricky player but he has good positional sense inside the box. His move to Trabzonspor last year hasn’t worked out well as he has played back up to scoring sensation, Burak Yilmaz, who is averaging better than a goal per game in the league this season. Brozek’s record at Wisla was comparable to Maciej Zurawski, who he replaced as top striker in the league.
The Polish CQN brigade told me Celtic should move for Pawel and his twin brother before Trabzonspor signed them. When news leaked that Pawel was a target to replace ex-Rangers player (too soon?) Nikica Jelavic our man in Poland suggested he would pick up a lot of points for Rangers in the SPL.
If he comes to Celtic on a six month loan both parties will have plenty of opportunity to figure out if there is long term fit. In the meantime, should Pawel arrive we have someone to put pressure on Gary Hooper and Anthony Stokes and the Cheeky Chappie will have to consider his next move (again, too soon?).
On the subject of Jelavic…. Remember in August 2010 when we were told he “effectively went on strike” to engineer his escape from Rapid Vienna after the player declared he wasn’t able to face Aston Villa? I hear he’s unable to play against Hibs this afternoon.

you were posting earlier about the Kennedy assassination and the conspiracy / shared understanding. … ever read American Tabloid by James Ellroy? Fantastic novel which
outlines that “coalition of shared interests” sort of idea.

There is not a lot of evidence to support the view that Reagan was smart and there’s a lot of evidence to the contrary. Thatcher had intellect but was more dogged than wise.
Maybe they had good advisors but, alternatively, there is the view that they were guessing. They knew the spending race would hurt the USSR and, indeed, both economies. Gorbachov strongly suspected that the whole strategy was a bluff but may have had 1% of doubt, and, that, coupled with the inherent flaws in the Soviet system he recognised, led him to believe that the Soviet Union’s needs to reform coincided with the West’s needs to minimise their threat, and so an agreed path was reached.
Or maybe the CIA paid off Gorby. Who really knows? But I doubt that the Star War strategists “knew” what the timescale would be for the strategy. Most evidence suggests that the collapse of the Soviet System took them completely by surprise.
History is won more by cock-up than by planned brillliant strategies I believe,
And, given our defensive performance at Inverness last season, that may hold true for SPL titles too. Neither Watty nor his mastermind, Kenny (??), foresaw the outcome that unfolded

Perhaps,
“The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.”
I only feel resignation. What you can`t change, accept. The culture of Scottish football
has not changed and will not.
Regan was chosen by the politburo.
Mind you,so was Gorbachev.
If you want change, hit the hip pocket nerve.
As did Reagan and Thatcher.
Although that moment may have passed.

RANGERS manager Ally McCoist last night tried to play down his disappointment after it was confirmed that Pawel Brozek, the Polish striker who had been among his signing targets, had opted to enter into contract negotiations with Celtic.
Speaking after his team’s 4-0 win against Hibernian at Ibrox, McCoist said: “I’d have to admit it’s a disappointment. All I would say is that I would use the word ‘target’ a little bit carefully. He’s a player we were looking at. I won’t lie to you, we were interested in him, but there were no specific bids. I have not had contact with the player or the agent. He’s absolutely within his rights to do what he thinks is best for himself.”
Trabzonspor, the Turkish club for whom Brozek currently plays, announced on their website yesterday morning that the 28-year-old would join Celtic on loan until the end of the season if an agreement could be reached. The statement read: “The negotiations which will be made in the aim of loaning our professional footballer Pawel Brozek to the Scottish club Celtic until the end of the current season are beginning

Reagan, in his own sphere, is right up there, in terms of quality, with Mark Hammill.
Chewbacca’s speeches made more sense though.
And it earned him the chance to manage Falkirk tomorrow.

Do the tax dodgers have to make any more payments for Jelavic? Is there a possibilty that they might
have to default on a payment if they can’t move him out by Tuesday?
Been out of the loop on cqn for quite a while, not even able to do much lurking.Could anyone give me a brief update on
how Kano is doing please?

James Forrest,
I’ve often had mixed emotions reading your posts, not because of the quality of them as the writing ability expressed in them is first rate, but rather because i sometimes disagree with the angle and tone your argument has.Even the ones i take umbrage with are well worth the read due to their aforementioned quality. However, any doubt i harboured as to your character has been dispelled by your reference to your personal feelings towards Thatcher and Reagan.I am now 100% sure you ARE the type of dude i would love to spend time with. Please continue your fine contributions to this blog as they are not only opinionated but extremely well thought through and perfectly expressed (even those i disagree with.)I look forward to your future posts, the likes of which are beyond the capability of most.
Yours in Celtic.

Lol. I’ll tell you what one of the finest things I’ve ever had the pleasure to read is …
There is a website called Ruthless Reviews, which reviews films, books, TV, heavy metal music and general social issues … it’s outstanding, hilarious and very, very close to the knuckle … highly offensive if you’re one of it’s targets.
(They had an article called Jerry Falwell: Stone F@@@@@@ Dead at Last).
Anyway … the website itself gained national prominence after one of its contributing writers decided to publish a highly controversial picture of himself peeing on Reagan’s grave …
I suspect the only thing that may stop me doing the same with our former Prime Minister’s final resting place is the length of the queque. If it starts to rain, and I’m suitably convinced that those in front of my can accurately convey the depth of my contempt, I might just leave them to it. Maybe. If Celtic are playing or something.
As an Irishman in Scotland, I rarely have far to travel before finding someone who despises Thatcher with a vengeful passion. An entertaining pub game is listing the songs that will be sung or quoted in the pub during the holiday we are granted for her inevitable state funeral.
Anything by Cathal Coughlan (like the above stormer, which is anti-Thatcherism rather than specifically anti-Thatcher, though he did in a later track write about her “monkey-sht brown hair rinse”) works for me.

I agree.
I share that dark cloud of resignation, that nothing will change within the mindset of Scottish football.
As you said, who appointed Reagan?
I can’t imagine him giving his vision of an open, transparent ,level playing field SFA, to slack jawed SFA blazers, at his interview.
G’night OZ and others.
I hope GCT has a peaceful night and is on his way to a complete recovery.
tarrant:
I do believe I will be as drunk that day as I have ever been or will ever get. I will enjoy it with a relish usually only reserved for the crashing of degenerate institutions into a Hell of their own creation. Yes, I mean it … that might be an occasion to rival even The End of Rangers itself.
I personally like the idea of a state funeral. The middle England which adored her giving the rest of us a day to celebrate her passing works very well for me. Anyway, any sentance with the words Thatcher and Funeral in it will certainly not be an occasion for regret.
I predict something though. It will be the first state funeral in British history where, instead of a slow hand clap, the coffin is serenaded to the final resting place by brass bands, dancing, cavorting, wild laughter and revelry long into the night. I am comforted by the thought many will say it shows the degeneration of decency and values, because that, after all, is what she wanted, and it will be only fitting that she and hers are greeted with that spectacle in her last hiatus before her permanent stopover down in Hell.

Could’nt post on CQN earlier, strange.

but that would be granting the film a wit it no more possessed than Margaret herself a conscience. And as much as I roar with delight that Thatcher was reduced to a blithering idiot after bleeding the United Kingdom dry, I’d prefer a more pointed lesson. Equally, I would hate any Reagan biopic that erred on the side of the urine-soaked, lamp-tossing, rage-filled incoherence of his final decade in the sunset rather than the murderous hypocrisy of his White House years.

Good evening CQN

but
they have supported NL as best they can given the size of squad we have, which is 35 first team players. i dont think we have 20 players i’d keep so we are being squeezed from having a big squad which obvioulsy impacts on our ability to spend.
