Brozek in Glasgow chess game. Check.

1155

Two years ago I had a memorable journey from one end of Poland to the other, mostly in silent prayer that our man from Poland would slow down, to check out a few footballers, including Wisla Krakow striker, Pawel Brozek, who obliged with a goal.

Pawel has played mostly as a lone striker, he can hold the ball up and bring others into the game.  He’s not a particularly tricky player but he has good positional sense inside the box.  His move to Trabzonspor last year hasn’t worked out well as he has played back up to scoring sensation, Burak Yilmaz, who is averaging better than a goal per game in the league this season.  Brozek’s record at Wisla was comparable to Maciej Zurawski, who he replaced as top striker in the league.

The Polish CQN brigade told me Celtic should move for Pawel and his twin brother before Trabzonspor signed them.  When news leaked that Pawel was a target to replace ex-Rangers player (too soon?) Nikica Jelavic our man in Poland suggested he would pick up a lot of points for Rangers in the SPL.

If he comes to Celtic on a six month loan both parties will have plenty of opportunity to figure out if there is long term fit.  In the meantime, should Pawel arrive we have someone to put pressure on Gary Hooper and Anthony Stokes and the Cheeky Chappie will have to consider his next move (again, too soon?).

On the subject of Jelavic….  Remember in August 2010 when we were told he “effectively went on strike” to engineer his escape from Rapid Vienna after the player declared he wasn’t able to face Aston Villa?  I hear he’s unable to play against Hibs this afternoon.

When I asked why he replied that he’d be a millionaire by now with the quantity of flags burned by both sides :-))

i would say its looking more and more likely to be Real Madrids title this year unless they collapse. Barca have Jose’s number but Madrid are steamrollering all other teams teams. i think their last 26 results reads…. 23 wins 1 draw 2 defeats. The 1 draw and 2 defeats are ALL against Barca. So outwith Barca they have won 23 straight games. Barca need Madrid to drop points in 2 games and beat them in the Camp Nou and win every other game. Tough ask….

Aye, fair play to Villareal, they done good tonight.

Barca have a few probs with injuries and the like, but they seem to be lacking these last couple of weeks, still the best team on the planet by a country mile, but if it’s no ment to be…..

Real have the league in the bag, I wouldn’t put it past them to win the CL either.

When guys like Pepe can stamp on another players foot and get off scott free you know things are stacked in their favour.

    Good evening.

Win these next three games and the treble is distinct possibility.

I think that Kris Commons must start all three.

Any thoughts/ideas on what the team selection should be?

Personally I would go all out attack against Falkirk, and the Hearts of darkness,as I believe that both these teams shall go on the offensive against us.This would be to their own peril,as we are the best attacking team in Scotland. They cannot match us.For the Inverness game,I would go sheer strength and power.Everybody knows the tactics that shower of thugs will employ. We must match them like-for-like.

    4-5-1 against the Butchers.

No-one sits in a room and plans this stuff, you’re right. No-one has to, just as there was never a meeting of the principal players in the Kennedy Assasination. Such things aren’t needed. All you need is a “shared understanding” at the top of the house and a quiet word in this ear or that, not even blatant, just suggestive. Add to that a media which appears to thrive on hysteria but is actually much more subversive – take note of one media outlet highlighting how close Adam Matthews is to a ban – and you have all the ingredients you need for favours to be done, results to be affected and league titles to change hands.

Yes, I agree, we threw it away at Inverness. But the question as to whether we should have even needed to go there and win remains unanswered. Decisions went against us which cannot be explained. Decisions fell for them which defy all conventional understanding. Some of the saw points change hands.

Yes, we had it in our own hands, but those hands were sweaty after a season of death threats and notorious incidents. Had the playing field been level, I suspect we would have been far, far out of sight long before then.

Exactly its a very subtle and insidious form of manipulation that happens with no volcanic uproar, a slow cooked form of bending and manipulation is equally effective as giving a 6 or 8 point advantage…I apologise for my pish stained rambling

Meetings were not required. All that was required was to have someone with some leanings towards Rangers and not necessarily anti Catholic leanings (but that would help) who was aware of the financial importance, nay necessity, of winning to Rangers to be hold a position where he could influence referees.

In true Cluedo form having looked at motive and opportunity I think Dallas did it in the SFA Offices at Hampden using match appointments and post match report monitoring to commit the crime.

His removal was no accident and the referee strike had nothing to do with refs feeling undermined. Once he left there was no examination by the media of the case probably because they were accomplices.

Wee fact that’s gettin missed is that we should have had already played them before that game,it was postponed when the sun was splittin the trees on the mornin of the game, yes ict got the better of us but they were in form, the dark lords at the sfa made sure our game with them was crucial when it should have been less so.

See the talk lads about losing the game at Inverness.

What annoyed me as much was throwing away two idiotic points at home to them when we were two up.In fact only for the final whistle

they would have beaten us.We lost two pts. at home to Dundee Utd. in the same circumstances when we thought the game was won.

I’m sure Neil has learned from that. The silly points lost over the whole season cost us,not just in the run in.

There’s a vast difference between what happened then and whats happening now!!! And to emotionalise it to the comparisson between what Mr Stein did and whats happening now is to believe we ever had a chance at all in the last 3 / 4 years…we have not even been afforded the opportunity to overcome…its what our American friends say ‘…a lock’!!!

If we had a chance to overcome Im sure we , despite the often TORPID stuff we have displayed, had enough in our locker to overcome..we simply have not even had a chance, level playing field or even a hope..its been cinched!!!

  30. James F

Do you believe that we get more decisions going for us than against at Parkhead? I do. Why? Human nature.

I also should point out that I think the huns benefit from the same intrinsic compulsion that afflicts referees and the rest of us alike.

James, if you have 40/50,000 people screaming for a decision, regardless of whether you think they are correct or not, human nature dictates that you will look at it again, and it will make you think…”Was that a penalty/foul etc?” Any big club with a big support will benefit from this.

The demographics of Scotland determine that there will be an inclination to proffer them a greater number of the major decisions in any given match. I don’t know if this “understanding” amongst the fraternity had a baring on last years title, I really don’t.

However, I do know that, with only a handful of games to go, we went to Inverness and lost.

No referees determined the result of that mate.
