Burke and Weah weigh in, battle for second, Levein returns to norm

385

There can be little more satisfying experiences for a manager than seeing two new strikers get on the score sheet so quickly.  Oliver Burke and Timo Weah have scored twice since making their debuts on Saturday.  With Vakoun Issouf Bayo taking a halftime bow and Odsonne Edouard back in training, December’s scenario when Mikey Johnston was asked to play as striker seems a distant memory.

All Celtic can do to increase their lead at the top of the table is to continue to win and watch what happens below.  Kilmarnock moved into second place with a win over Newco last night, but they travel to fourth placed Aberdeen on Saturday, who, if they win, would be the third team to occupy second place within four days.

Earlier this season, when Hearts were top of the table and enjoying lots of media accolade, I was asked by someone not too familiar with the game if Craig Levein was a good manager.  At the time Craig was popping up everywhere, enjoying a glow of satisfaction.  “No.  Craig Levein is not a good manager” was my reply.  The Edinburgh are sixth and sinking fast.  Craig Levein’s performances have returned to the norm.

Weah looks class and Burke decent. But, we’ve played Airdrie and St Mirren, two bloody awful teams. Lets see how we do away from home against better opponents before jumping the gun. 15 points from 11 away is dreadful. The remaining 8 away matches will be the acid tests.

  2. Paul 67,

On the plus side for Craig Levein, a lack of available strikers would not be an issue.

He would just revert to type with a 4- 6- 0 line up. Simples.

  3. There was a lot to enjoy last night, including the dude who won the Windfall at half time. He made sure he fully enjoyed his few minutes of fame, I thought he was going to shake hands with every supporter there.

4-0 home win, new Huns beaten, diet Huns beaten, and £10k in your hipper. The only way that could have been improved was if Airdrie and Falkirk had both played last night and had both got humped as well cos ah cannae stand them either.

  4. Maybe if we have a million wingers SS will keep up his new-found form? Clearly complacent when we only had 999.

  5. One game at a time should be our approach. Everything put in to winning the next one.

Watched the highlights – Big Ollie showed some lovely touches. I thought he was a winger? Looked like a centre forward last night (I didn’t think he did at the weekend!) There is a player there. Gives us options I think.

Tim Weah also looking very very good.

Laughing at slippy g comments about telling players ‘no square passes on that pitch’ – then you look at worrall gifting brophy a goal and you think ‘if only he hadn’t been told not to play a square ball he’d have given it to McCauley to hump up the park. More brilliant management. Have your players crapping it about where to play the ball. And telling the world that he tells his team not to pass it square on plastic pitches – oh dear.

Any sign of a right back yet?

  6. “As a club we never seem to plan for the future”, they said…

“Here’s a winger who we’ve plans for the future”, he said…

“Um, still no happy. Peter Lawell Klaxon”. they mumbled…..

  7. “Kilmarnock moved into second place with a win over Newco last night, but they travel to fourth placed Aberdeen on Saturday, who, if they win, would be the third team to occupy second place within four days”.

There’s a big assumption here that we will beat Hamilton on Saturday. We just need to look at our own games. Win each one as they arrive. That’s all we need to do. It isn’t going to be easy.

That `But…` was oh so predictable.

Who enjoys their Celtic Experience more: David 17 ( 10:06) or FiledofDrams ( 10:11) ?

A prominent walkway to Scotland’s newest flagship national sports arena was like an ice rink.

Neglect or deliberate by GCC? Either way poor show.

Also, like you, I thought the St Mirren fans (who I’ve criticised in the past) were good last night.

It also appears now that we are in for Dominic Iorfa, as posted by the reliable Lennybhoy on here and the Celtic Star over the last couple of days, but that Brendan is also in the dark over this move.

Caveat: I don’t know who runs the Celtic Star website but they have had reliable information in advance of media outlets and other Celtic sites over the last few months.

I’d call it an assumption rather than a big assumption ;)

Assumptions can be wrong but not very often, big assumptions are usually wrong, so I think assumption covers us ;)

  14. I think Celtic Star pick up info from the likes of Lennybhoy and have no clue what’s going on.

They do need to sell space on the net.

James Forrest showed the model when he claimed McKenna was in a taxi on his way when it was untrue.

They’re all at it. We don;t really know what’s going on and as I can influence none of it will not stress about it.

Loved the game last night though….

  15. David17,

Whether I attend every game or none at all is not relevant to the point I made,You used an incorrect quote to say it’s a new low for the board and repeated that by posting “SACK THE BOARD”,if that’s not having an agenda then I’m not sure what is.

Probably. The problem with that is its not an isolated case – Arzani, Shvad, Iorfa… you would have noted Brendans comments the previous day about stockpiling of players. He chooses his words carefully.

Its not too difficult to join the dots to see he is not completely at ease with the transfer policy, particularly after the farce of the summer window.

  17. We have lost 4 out of 5 away fixtures this season against, Killie,Hibs,Hearts,Sevco ,and The Dons.

Losing at Ayebrokes on the 29th wasn’t a blip in form.

Something that had to happen eventually.

It is sadly our away form this season.

If we are to do the 8.

Then our away form needs to greatly improve.

Of late, I , too, have felt like that but I believe that positive posters, like yourself, need to keep posting to combat the constant negativity of some. Why they do so is beyond me as Scotland already has more than enough negativity about Celtic to justify the need for any on here.

The Celtic Star is not clickbait – they have provided reliable info on Weah and Burke ahead of anyone else and are careful about posting rumours, unlike HITC, The Transfer Tavern, and sites like that. In fact it has a similiar look and feel to CQN magazine, I thought it may have been someone from here involved, but perhaps not.

I am friendly will Lennybhoy .

    He is a top boy.

    We text each other .

He texts me with the latest signing info.

He has never once texted me anything that wasn’t already in the media or net.

He has text me dozens of info on signings that never happened.

The ones that have were already out there.

I read about Iorfa last week on a Wolves fan site.

The Celtic Star and Lennybhoy no nothing from any good source ahead of anybody else.

I’ve told Lennybhoy this personally ,that whoever feeds him is taking the piss.

You won`t encourage any change of heart with that kind of comment.

It is quite obvious our Away form has not been good. I doubt you will find a single supporter who would say otherwise.

Negative opinion posted as fact is what, I believe, grates with some.

My view is that Brendans comment about ‘having a million wingers’ is an insight that he is looking for ‘quality’ in other areas of the pitch.

  25. The negative noises about the wee winger being signed up i dont get. br does not know him well, big deal outside videos and reports etc… when is a manager meant to watch a player given that they have to prepare own team for own games. All clubs have a scouting department working to identify players that fit the style, system and profile needed. He did not sound displeased to me but was frank about an opportunity presenting itself which may have been to good to turn down.

Also at end of season 10 players well be out of contract or will be returning to their own clubs so It make sense to make sure are prepare for that situation.

We have not managed to secure a rightback yet because the players we want are not for sale or dont want to come. the reason for that is we are identifying good quality players and they tend to be in high demand. It may be the case that we need to go back to type and signed up a younger player with potential which well also cost us, but those type are more likely to come to make a name for themselves, the more established players less so.

Thats your view on LB’s info but the Celtic Star have had an impressive habit of getting it right and broke the Weah loan move on Christmas eve, for example, and dismissed other stories the media WERE running with eg. Carroll, and got team news and formation bang on hour before the game at Ibrox – McGregor at LB, Mikey up front for an hour then Edouard on, etc.

I don’t know their source, but if you read their output it has high accuracy and nothing at all like the HITC’s.

I used the word ‘but’ at 10.06 and you accuse me of being negative. But now you acknowledge my point is widely accepted.

  28. David17,

Not in the quote that you reproduced,I’m quite sure he also said the boy was undoubtedly talented and could be good for the club, notice you didn’t include that part.

To use an incorrect quote in the manner you did and follow it up with sack the board suggests to me that you had an agenda,if not fair enough.

I see you have still never admitted the quote you used was wrong.

  29. My friends in Celtic

I am actually quite happy with our January signings, and our last two performances.

However it’s human nature, we always want more and better.

Looking at all our playing squad we desperately need to trim this down. Quality not quantity is a phrase often used on here. See what you think.
