There can be little more satisfying experiences for a manager than seeing two new strikers get on the score sheet so quickly. Oliver Burke and Timo Weah have scored twice since making their debuts on Saturday. With Vakoun Issouf Bayo taking a halftime bow and Odsonne Edouard back in training, December’s scenario when Mikey Johnston was asked to play as striker seems a distant memory.
All Celtic can do to increase their lead at the top of the table is to continue to win and watch what happens below. Kilmarnock moved into second place with a win over Newco last night, but they travel to fourth placed Aberdeen on Saturday, who, if they win, would be the third team to occupy second place within four days.
Earlier this season, when Hearts were top of the table and enjoying lots of media accolade, I was asked by someone not too familiar with the game if Craig Levein was a good manager. At the time Craig was popping up everywhere, enjoying a glow of satisfaction. “No. Craig Levein is not a good manager” was my reply. The Edinburgh are sixth and sinking fast. Craig Levein’s performances have returned to the norm.

Come on custodians, sometimes, just sometimes you have to show your teeth to the cheats or bully’s and make them back off, you are there to represent our great club, so as the auld Glasgow saying says “get intae them”.

The Plc know how to take on the SFA but it would mean reducing income streams, no more competitions that involve hampdump finals, simple really.
Oh and I suggest our players would spend less time recovering from injury and fatigue therefore improve and develop quicker, I also suggest a player sale would cover the loss of both competitions.
Just reading this morning that Hugh McIllvanney has died.

Thanks for passing on the sad news about Hugh Mc Illvanney .
https://www.theguardian.com/sport/blog/2009/may/21/lisbon-lions-celtic-internazionale
I was privileged to meet Hugh MacIlvanney about 15 years ago and chatted to him for approx half an hour. A fount of wisdom and a really nice man. Killie fan, very close friend of Big Jock, Muhammad Ali and other greats. Brilliant writer and was in our dressing room at Lisbon. Great life, well lived.
RIP Hugh. Thanks.
Imo, Hugh McIlvanney was a joy to read. I have still not got over his leaving the Observer for the Sunday Times. May he rest in peace. Sheer class in every word.
morning bhoys, from a damp Cheshire, sad news about hugh mcillvaney may he rest in peace.
Hugh McIlvanney’s departure from the world of Sports journalism is a stark reminder of how standards have dropped in that profession, especially in Scotland.
We have lost one of the giants today.
Graham Spiers described Hugh Macillvanney as the Shakespeare of sports journalists.
A great life and may he rest in peace.
BBC SCOTLAND had the foresight and to record his own voice telling his story. His compelling interviews with Jeff Webster are available to listen to at https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p02wfnvv/members
In these days of instant news, verified or unverified, and simplistic emojis it is such a joy to listen to his deeply considered and poetical descriptions of great sporting moments after the event.
Reading a headline today from one of the many tumbleweed Celtic web pages to suggest Dedryck could be available for Saturday. Good news if it’s accurate.
Never too early to take a guess at our lineup; Gordo Anto and Emilio, Broony Dedo and Benko.Hendo Christo, Bayo Timo and oh no! 4-0 to the Celts.
Hugh McIllvanney RIP, could make words come to life, and a rich voice that could hypnotize you.

Good evening CQN:
Only read first two pages
TRADITIONALIST88:
Celtic Star is Winning Captains. As for things I post I hear a lot of who we are talking to and deals that are being attempted. Recently have taken the decision of late to post when I hear deals are over the line…Weah, Bayo and Burke. The decision partly influenced by my friend Tiny Tim.

Thanks for the confirmation LB! Keep the updates coming :)

Hugh McIlvanney, a really brilliant, beautiful sports journalist.

more complicity than compliance, I would say

OK Guys, a compromise……… To miss it is complicit.

PSG are going to stop loaning players to us. They get here, sample what a real football club is all about and don’t want to go home again. Timo Weah has fallen in love and I expect him to be with us for 18 months. We probably couldn’t afford him permanently but he’s loving it here already and the feeling is definitely mutual. Personally I’d offer PSG €15m for him right now. He’s that good.
======================
PSG will be offered the standard £2m, take it or leave it, with another £25m in add-ons when the player reaches 150 international appearances for Liberia…

Another little light goes out, making the world a wee bit darker.
Brilliant narrator and wordsmith.

Fantastic post my bhoy and I share some of those memories.
I remember having to walk thru raging huns, scarf tucked well into the jacket after the 4-2 game because my Dad insisted on still parking the car in London Road when we played them.
I was at the game when wee Johnny scored that amazing goal against Real Madrid – I was at the return in the Bernabeau as well, that wasn’t so good mind you…
When I think about it I saw wee Jinky plenty times (though not enough) and I’ve definitely been pished on in The Jungle so I think I share all the memories!
Like you, I do not believe we enjoy these times enough, having lived and suffered thru the 90’s / 00s Cheating Years…..that includes me……I’m bumping my guns and quietly raging about no new centre half but I probably need to chill a bit.
God bless Celtic.
My friends in Celtic,
A happy Burns day to those of you who are so inclined. Especially to our overseas comrades.
Not really at odds with some of us, contrary to common perception

Correct TRADITIONALIST88!
Always remember standing at the traffic lights at the Springfield Road junction, in amongst them all. I must have been looking too happy or too Tim-ish, but the guy standing beside me winked at me and opened his jacket to reveal a Celtic scarf….what a night!

A couple of clicks will tell you Jim Craig is the main writer on The Celtic Star. Winning Captains is now an administrator on The Celtic noise.
