Can we push SPL fan power one step further?

854

Tomorrow’s Annual General Meeting of the Scottish Premier League is set to be the third great football meeting in the last two weeks.  The Prophet of Armageddon, chief executive Neil Doncaster, will face his shareholders and either have to declare he was being truthful when he told them, and Scottish Football League clubs, the SPL would be unable to fulfil their contractual obligations if Sevco were denied a place in the First Division, or that this was a cunning ruse designed to manipulate clubs and fans alike.

Doncaster was surely encouraged by some in the SPL to adopt his confrontational stance but support from SPL clubs was certainly not universal.  No representatives from Celtic participated in any meetings or conversations regarding the contents of the presentation made to SFL clubs, nor was the club informed or consulted on it.

Well done to the Aberdeen fans who kicked off the Sell-out Saturday initiative.  They hope to sell-out Pittodrie for their 11 August game and want to as many fans as possible to buy season tickets.  The idea has been picked up by clubs throughout the league.

I get the feeling that if supporters groups got together we could use this unique moment, when camaraderie among fans coincided with unparalleled fan power over the clubs, to define a framework for the game we wanted, not something a dreamt up by a Norfolk MBA.

Even if we couldn’t get every fan group pulling in the same direction, a few productive bilateral relationships is all it takes to establish an powerful pressure group.

The German side start their league programme next week I think. Certainly seem much fitter and quicker than us . Emphasises how difficult our CL tie will be whoever we draw. If this is to be the pattern in future years it seems we’ll have to bring the players back earlier.

  2. Stuttgart Kickers currently play in the 3rd division of German football, not a good sign.

I’m taking my girl to Amsterdam . I hope it’s not to watch that waste of time

  4. Maybes Lenny is trying to justify the wages of likes of Big Daryl and Kelvin to PL

Only explanation I can think of.

The kids are kids, they will need time, never critisise kids.

All done ……. Little disappointing …..strikers reported missing, I’m afraid

  6. We were better first half. They have been a bit dirty and got away with it. We have had no momentum because of the constant free kicks and with the subs also. No injuries and more of the young bhoys getting game time.

Lack of fitness is one thing, lack of technique and ability is another!!!

All that was proved tonight was that Murphy,Wilson, etc are not good enough!!

A lack lustre display against the German 3rd Division side 2 games no goals is not good its fine to say they are training matches in order to get our fitness but this is Celtic we are talking about..I just hope Lennie is learning something I just see a few players who are just not Celtic standard.H.H.

Pre season friendlys are times to both experiment and also consolidate. There were a couple pof ositives, Beram Kayal and James Forest. But I can not understand why Murphy was given 90 minutes. He brings nothing to the team, will not be in the squad this season, all he did was prevent younger players getting a chance. poor tactics from Neil.

Have to agree on Wilson / Murphy …….. They’ve both had plenty of time to prove themselves…..

  12. watched it on a dodgy stream with half the screen blocked off, thank God.

I know enough to know that Wilson and Murphy are only playing to get them moves elsewhere, they have now probably closed off the 3rd tier of the Bundeliga as an escape route.

If Rasmusssen and Keatings are not better than that, why are they in the development squad?

Normal pre season workout.Still not a big fan of the dark socks but growing on me.Do we think the media will have a shattered Celtic crest with”Club in Crisis” headlines? They’ve done in on previous tours.

    Hopefully no injuries.

    Good work out.

Kayal moving well and with a bit more balance in the team, he should dominate midfield.

Good to see us playing the Barcelona style in the second half, i.e., playing without a striker.

    Way to go!

    OG,

Stick to the under cover liaison work with A.Tommo. You’re good at that! :>)

Who gave you the right to decide what team people support?

We were unprepared f or Europe last two years because of a shambolic preseason.

    Hope history does not repeat

    Re our defence.

When we get our first choice defence out, ( imhoForster, Matthews , Charlie, Rogne, izzy) I think we are reasonably solid.

Our problems come when we pick up injuries and suspensions – big Vic can step in and do a decent job, but , Wilson looks a poor player to me, as does Lustig.

So whilst we are in pre-season ‘try different options’ mode, what about Darryl Murphy at CB. He lacks a bit of pace, but he is good in the air, aggressive, and has a decent left foot. His days at centre forward should mean he has the number of most players in SPL

Given our lack of budget, it must be worth a punt ….thoughts ?

thanks a lot for the updates re German commentary

    a real insight

could easily have been 4-0 for Stuttgart

    yes, a friendly

and so one or two things learned

    positives for me…

    another good run out

    Blackman did ok

    Jim and Hoops looked decent

exposure to a German audience, tho a poor showing

and most positive of all…it was a friendly !!

finger out big time for 31stJul/1stAug, or whatever !!

    16/17days and counting

    mon Lenny !

Exactly,,,we all understand that the results are not important and that you experiment with certain players and formations,,,but to not only start with Murphy tonight, but play him for the entire 90 mins was baffling,we were absolutely blunt up front for the whole game!!!

lovin the traynor comments, seasons over we might as well just hand our title to aberdeen, or hearts or :o)

  20. Thought the performance was OK in the second half but need more service to the forwards. Not a finished team, main players still to be introduced. I think the Murphy et al is only playing to be in the shop window. There is no chance he will be a main stay of the team. Ibrahim always looks good, would like to see him starting a game.

On the whole the game is fit for purpose. Anyone who spent money expecting anything different will need their head looked at, and I’m sure that the friendly German hospitality will more than make up for the wrong result!

Gscbhoy …….. Understand what you mean….. Most are just comments on the game……land discussing who we feel should be moving on etc

Cracked crest in the record tomorrow after this no doubt.

At least we haven’t been liquidated and have to convince ourselves that we’re still alive.

Result is not all that important,as it is a fitness exercise, but how many shots at goal did we have.HH

  26. Highlights, young James and Dylan.

I doubt we’ll see big Murphy in the Hoops come the serious stuff and I reckon big Kelvin will also be found a new club.

Overall it wasn’t pretty but ultimately the result means nowt.

    When’s the next friendly …? ……

  28. the result is not important but the level of performance the shape the passing the set pieces are important

why are we persevering with people like murphy mccourt who are not going to take us to the next level in europe For us to play 90 mins against a 3rd div german team and not get shot on goal is a disgrace friendly or no friendly

my great concern is that with them not in our league we will coast with the average players and young boys and still win the league but our squad wasnt good enough for champions league and they will certainly not be good enough this year

taking away 2 friendlies so far i am concerned that in the last couple of weeks our manager has started to down play the possibility of bringing in new players season ticket prices didnt go down so i hope our managers wishes , a dominating centre half and a physical striker , are not put on backburner

regardless of anything else OUR ambition must not be diluted
