Cash windfall for Celtic fans

998

Readers of Celtic Quick News will know that our club has not been out of debt since Fergus gathered up our cash in 1994 and set about building the new stadium.  19 years later, with the mad arms race which consumed Scottish football over, we stand on the verge of coming out of debt.

The full consequences of this will not be known for years to come but the first material benefit is the £100 discount per season ticket Celtic announced today.  We’re no longer in debt, we can team-build in a measured and sustainable manner, and with Champions League money in the bank, Celtic have cut prices.

I know season ticket holders who missed out on the Barcelona, Spartak and Benfica games as, on top of everything else, they could not afford Champions League tickets.  If we get back to the group stage next season, supporters will be able to buy their season tickets and Champions League group tickets for less money than they paid for SPL tickets this season.

The return of the £50 under-13 ticket is also very welcome, along with a tiered level for older children.  With so many competing distractions, it is important that we bring as many young people into our community as possible.

Peter Lawwell’s comments underline the importance of bums on seats to everything that happens at Celtic, “The backing of our fans has, as ever, been crucial.  Domestically and in Europe they have once again been right with us and we felt it important that we rewarded their commitment by making this gesture”.

More welcome good news for the Champions.

Do Munich stick or twist ?

If they twist, they could finish tie off tonight. Stick and Barca are liable to nick a goal no matter how bad they are playing.

He’s not fit. He’s only played 30 mins (v PSG at home) since pulling his hamstring 3 weeks ago. Gamble to play him, and its backfiring big time. They should get Villa on and if they want to stick with Messi take off Sanchez and stick him wide.

Would I be correct in thinking you don’t think it will encourage people to buy ST’s.

I imagine when money is laundered, it is done at a cost, but you expect to get something back which is cleansed. Not sure if they are likely to get anything back on Zombie shares, unless they do a Murray and take sufficient controlling interest of the company to ensure they award themselves all the contracts for services.

Again, I understand that they will not buy Chuckles shares until December, so plenty of time for the SFA to cover this whole thing up and ensure that NewSevco have had the associate membership, history etc transferred to them, should Sevco Scotland go bust.

    Barca specifically poor in defence.

Bayern more physical – that’s not a slight.

PF – people need to acknowledge that this Bayern team are the real deal. I wish I had backed them early doors to win the CL, they will be desperate to make up for blowing it on their own pitch last year.

  17. Well done to PL and the Board.

My immediate reaction to those who doubt their intentions would not be allowed by Paul67.

Instead I will point the doubters in the direction of a fantastic article by Phil Gordon about Celtic in The Times today. He points out that crowds are falling across Europe and gives various examples – 28,000 empty seats in the Nou Camp (v Levante) and only 18,000 for Inter v Spurs in the Europa League.

His final point is “Celtic might not enjoy comparing their present attendances to 2003, but the numbers are still amongst the highest in their 125 year history. Inter would covet them.”

  20. BIG-CUP-WINNERS,

I don’t have a season ticket this year due to work commitments,

but a change in role means I will buy one for next season,

would have been likely to get one even without reduced prices

  21. Surely after a successful share flotation raising £22 M Sevco will reduce their season ticket prices next season…
