Celtic’s January 2012 transfer window

916

Michael Lustig arrived early on a pre-contract from Rosenborg.  A right back as tall as the North Stand he is one of the most curious signings we’ve made in a while, considering the strength we have in that position.

Rabiu Ibrahim, past-wonder-kid of African football, came in after negotiating an end to an unproductive stay in Eindhoven.  I hear lots about Ibrahim’s ability but Celtic will have to find a way of turning that into a productive force in the SPL, something PSV were unable to do in the Netherlands.

Polish international striker, Pawel Brozek, arrived on load from Trabzonspor, where he spent most of last year at the side of the pitch.  Pawel is an experienced pro who is likely to enjoy his time in the SPL.  He’ll keep the front pairing of Abbot and Costello on their toes, neither of whom will be certain of retaining their place.

Young players, Paul Slane, James Keatings and Lewis Toshney went out on loan to MK Dons, St Johnstone and Kilmarnock respectively, which Josh Thompson continued his tour of English towns and cities by heading to Chesterfield for 6 months.  None were likely to make more than cameo appearances this season, all will benefit from the career development opportunity.

Throughout the month I ignored stories that we would sell our prime first-team assets, Hooper, Stokes, Samaras, Forrest, Commons, Ki, McCourt and Matthews were all linked with clubs in England and offers were received for six of the above, but who in their right mind would sell top players in January when you are in a nip –and-tuck race for the title?

A sad day. That primary school made me who I am. Dr Green, Councillor in charge of education, AND excellent deliverer of Roman History at GU, wanted to keep those schools open…

The transfer deadline for Scottish football has now closed. As a lifelong Celtic supporter, it saddens me to see that Rangers are in such a financial situation they cannot afford to buy players. Now there are rumours that this once mighty club are facing administration. I know there will be small-minded fellow Celtic supporters who will rejoice in the demise of this club, I am not one of them. May I offer my sympathy to all those Rangers fans out there and to Mr McCoist and all the players and wish them all the very best for the future.

    Yours Sincerely,

    Pinocchio !!

    Eyes wide open

    But cannot see

    The beauty

    That was given to me,

    From Granda

    And Da’

    Without word

    Or teach,

    A simple

    Believe,

    Brought up

    In love of a team

    And a way of life

    Knowing what was right

And what was worth a fight

    Unerdogged and oppressed

We came up the hard way

    Worked hard played hard

    To earn the coin

    To see our team.

    Glasgow, Carfin,

    Croy and Garngad

    Our story was the same,

    It’s this green and white

Or nothing, this is who we are,

    Smashed up, beat up

    Or called for everything

    Still we carried on

    On buses from

    All over the country

We met to sing our songs

    In praise of a team

    Called Celtic

    Who could do no wrong,

    It never mattered to me

If we won lost or drew

Okay just a wee big bit

    What grew for me

Inside my heart was the sight

    The sound and the roar

    Of those who were gathered

    There together to see

    The Green and White

    Once more; I’ve stood

On the slopes of Celtic Park

    For forty years or more,

Drank the bier in Bayern town

    In Porto, Stuttgart and beyond,

I sang Walk On in the Pool

    And kicked Souness’s ass

    I cried in Basel Stadt

    My new home to live

    I danced in Sion’s mount’s

    And never will forget

Their fans coming up to me

    Thumbs up saying

    Celtic Glagsow, the Best..

I agree, win the league first, europe is a major step up especially the CL.

I have a feeling that we will get a quality CB in for next season, I also think we will get a real quality midfielder in as well.

The team needs very little to do a reasonable job in eurpoe imo, just a couple of quality players who have been around the block, not over the hill but at their prime, they are out there, and I’m sure our scouts are looking as we speak.

  10. pedrocaravanachio67 – spot on re. The Wee Hurry for a fish supper. Always made to order though so it can take a bit of time. Scotts is a nice place for a drink and a meal but a bit out of the way for the local guys when going to see a game. I’ve not been back for a couple of years but Bruce’s Well is a safe bet. My old man and his mates often pop in there to watch a game as do my old chums from St Patricks, the local school. I’ve been in it often enough for Celtic V Rangers games with fans from both sides in and there’s never any bother.

Templehill St, with Cheekie Charlies and MacIntyres are best avoided.

I’d be surprised if there was much of a crowd in any of them mind you for a Saturday lunchtime K.O. Troon folk are civilized, the gents will be golfing.

By the way, over on twitter, there are some type of nominations for top tim!!

Now I am not a big fan of voting someone top anything but if you are looking for someone to nominate as a top tim over the last twelve months then my vote goes to Neil Lennon after all the crap that he has had to put up with, and what he has managed with his team.

Going beyond that I would go for wee Vanessa or our own Mr Brennan for his own contributions in the dark hours, the launch of CQN Magazine, the blog and so on.

Just my point of view of course

  19. Whenever someone calls Clyde to say Celtic need the huns, you can hear Flanders in the background saying yes yes yes.

What a sad clown he has become. I would rather be skint than stoop as low as that guy…boak!
