Celtic’s January 2012 transfer window

916

Michael Lustig arrived early on a pre-contract from Rosenborg.  A right back as tall as the North Stand he is one of the most curious signings we’ve made in a while, considering the strength we have in that position.

Rabiu Ibrahim, past-wonder-kid of African football, came in after negotiating an end to an unproductive stay in Eindhoven.  I hear lots about Ibrahim’s ability but Celtic will have to find a way of turning that into a productive force in the SPL, something PSV were unable to do in the Netherlands.

Polish international striker, Pawel Brozek, arrived on load from Trabzonspor, where he spent most of last year at the side of the pitch.  Pawel is an experienced pro who is likely to enjoy his time in the SPL.  He’ll keep the front pairing of Abbot and Costello on their toes, neither of whom will be certain of retaining their place.

Young players, Paul Slane, James Keatings and Lewis Toshney went out on loan to MK Dons, St Johnstone and Kilmarnock respectively, which Josh Thompson continued his tour of English towns and cities by heading to Chesterfield for 6 months.  None were likely to make more than cameo appearances this season, all will benefit from the career development opportunity.

Throughout the month I ignored stories that we would sell our prime first-team assets, Hooper, Stokes, Samaras, Forrest, Commons, Ki, McCourt and Matthews were all linked with clubs in England and offers were received for six of the above, but who in their right mind would sell top players in January when you are in a nip –and-tuck race for the title?

If you read my original post – I made a comment which was one facet of hundreds.

I made a point of saying it wasnt a glass half empty crusade against Celtic.

Some however, seem to be fairly hung up on insisting Celtics central defence is as good as it gets.

I havent come up in conversation face to face with a single Celtic fan who had the same opinion as some on here have.

The likes of Starry Plough arent very good at articulating an alternative point of view without dragging it down to a rather juvenile level.

With hindsight id have known what he was like and ignored him – I may disagree with 98% of what Hamiltontim says but atleast we have a decent enough debate.

Il go back to the original message – not an all out assault on Celtic – happy with just about everything and all positions, bar a more than curious oversight which has been repeated in my opinion.

For what it’s worth, I would rather have the CB’s that are available to us, rather than anything other that is playing in scotland at this time, just my opinion mind, and I haven’t see the bhoy Fojut yet, but the footage I have seen of him, he is better than we have at present, all looking good for the future imo.

She’d go off her trolly and I’d end up wearing it! She did drive an electric buggy once, I was playing as a single player, she drove it that slow people were walking by us, she kept asking “whits the rush, why are they in a hurry?” took us 3 and a half hours! Played with my son aged 12 we were round and in the bar in 3 hours!

    Ah– North Glasgow eh???

Powers of deduction suggest St Augustine’s where my mammy used to teach and my old man was the chief lab technician when it first opened.

My own personal memory of the place was walking through the grounds resplendent in my own Green school blazer and coming across a small north Glasgow urchin in the play ground,

It was a sunny day, I was in my fifth year and he was no more than second year. I was clearly lost as I was in a foreign school and had no idea where I was going. The young fella and I made eye contact, and at must have been clear that I was totally lost.

At which point he very helpfully said:

    ” Get tae F..k ya Proddy Ba..ard”!

Many years ago now and I understand that the young man concerned is now a manager with the Tourist Board.

spot on my friend… personally think Rogne and Mulgrew have made a decent central defence… can always be improved, but they’ve been doin fine. We need a step up for Europe, but one step at a time.

If you like fish, try Macallums also at the harbour ( a wee bit further on than scotts ) It’s a tad pricey but if it’s a special occasion, go for it! Also theres the chippy next door to it, the wee hurry……….without the word of a lie the best haddock and chips i’ve ever tasted. They also do things like monkfish suppers, it really just depends on what’s brought in by the boats that day. dont know about pubs, but we were in scotts for lunch and there was an EPL game on, so maybe there?
