Celtic 0-0 Hibernian

1111

Celtic surrendered another two points to fall further behind in the championship race, drawing 0-0 at home against Hibernian.  It was a unorganised looking performance from the home team who gave Graham Stack little to do in the Hibernian goal.

Gary Hooper squandered Celtic’s only gilt-edged chance of the game when, after playing a one-two with Anthony Stokes, he struck the outside of the post with Ki available for the square pass.  Anthony Stokes had earlier tested Stack, who failed to hold the ball but did enough to clear.

When the same teams met on Wednesday James Forrest transformed the game when he drifted inside but he spent most of today’s game adrift on the right wing.  On two occasions he cut inside with purpose, once testing Stack with a blistering shot from 22 yards and later when a 25 yard pile-drive struck the crossbar, but Hibs were content to limit Celtic to such speculative efforts.

Neil Lennon was justified in his criticism of his front pairing of Stokes and Hooper today but Celtic were equally clueless in midfield.  There appeared to be no cohesion and there was certainly not a productive match plan.

Motherwell’s away win in Inverness gives the Lanarkshire side a three point lead, having played a game more, going into next week’s crucial game against Celtic at Fir Park.  Manager-less St Johnstone dropped three points at home this afternoon, leaving them four points behind Celtic in the fight for the last Europa League place.

This is where we are people, scrapping between Motherwell and St Johnstone. Get used to it.

  1. No point in replacing Neil Lennon unless you are prepared to make available the money that would be required to persuade a decent manager and his assistants to come to Scotland.

If replacing Neil Lennon means a McGhee type appointment then I’ll continue to take my chances with Neil.

My apologies i did misread your post.

My own view is a bit mirky because i am not sure as to who is actually deciding what players we sign, but here goes.

The immediate task is to get a winning team on the park.

I would appoint an experienced British manager.

One who has proven that they can survive for a number of years in the EPL.

    eg,Tony Pulis,Sam Allardyce,David Moyes,Neil Warnock.

In an ideal world it would be Davy Moyes or MON.

They would be given total autonomy on who we sign.

Now the problem with my suggestion is that they WONT come to Celtic and the SPL under Celtic’s current financial plan.

    So that has to change.

Rangers are on for 4 in a row ,and will be debt free next season, in my view.

    Urgent measures are required.

The club needs a front loaded cash injection, and a manager who is not going to waste it on the Banguras of this world.

Dermot Desmond and his board have to come up with a way of finding the necessary funds.

A soft loan, another underwritten share subscription? DD will know better than me what is workable, needs must.

    In the longer term.

A pioneering fans coop for a transfer fund, where the coop owns the players.

We all pay in £200 ,and have a share.Set up a company that acquires players, and sub contracts them to Celtic. The options are there for the open minded.

Neil Lennon is drowning .The club is at a tipping point.

On a more Macro scale .

We simply must get out of the SPL ,and my favoured destination would be the EPL.

Scottish football has no appeal to a wider audience,it is dying and we are shrinking with it.

I do not believe that Celtic have any strategy to achieve this,in the short ,medium or even longer term.

If i were in charge this would be my biggest goal.

Could Celtic convince the likes of Moyes to come to us?

We could if he were to be convinced that we have ambition to sit at the top table of European football again ,and that the funds are there to make it happen.

    Over to you Dermot.

  5. I can’t see the board sacking Neil Lennon. They’d have too much trouble finding a suitable replacement.

The only way forward I can see is for the coaching staff to be replaced.

The board were rash to appoint a manger with no experience. To let him appoint coaches with no experience was worse than rash, it was totally reckless.

Just the ramblings of a few concerned well meaning fans, however from little acorns grow giant Oaks. What’s needed is leadership, someone to lead the project. £18m came from the shareholding multiplied by the share price.

  7. Aldersnyde avenue..say £3m? Then add a mininum of £10m for quality keeper, centre backs,strikers..can’t see it happening any time soon, when a total of £650k was the sum spent on our entire defence ( foster, izzy,Dan,Wilson, mattews,Charlie)

  8. The latest comments from Neil beggar believe , singly out Ki )bizarrely) and Joseph from all blame and going to out the players who let the club down. I understand that Neil wants to come across as honest and also answer questions from the media straight down the line. However, this is the media and prima donna professional footballers. Our dressing room must be a hoot to be in at the moment, Neil would be better advised to follow rhe MON approach of answering his own questions or the Two Ronnies in the sketch where they answer the question before , ‘Charlie Smithers’ …. current handling of the media appalllng, current application of the squad in the last 2 home games , verging towards supercally levels, also appaling join the dots

    This cannot go on.

  9. yesterdays game was awful from a celtic standpoint, hibs like st.johnstone should be leaving parkhead with nothing more than their tails between their legs, the most alarming thing for me at the moment is a distinct lack of urgency, everything is so predictable and pedestrian.

Our team currently is nothing short of a shambles. Partnerships play a massive role in successful teams, we have no settled partnerships to speak of, no CB pairing, no CM pairing and no CF pairing. Most would argue that stokes and hooper represent our best pairing upfront and i would agree, but come a ‘big’ game we dont see them together. Hooper of late has been atrocious, no movement, poor touch and an overall look of total disinterest. Time to take him out the side for a spell, if only to make him aware that he is not indespensible. James forrest has great talent, but is now expected to haul the team out of bother every week on his own, which is unfair on the lad. Neil Lennon really has his work cut out right now, and I hope for his and everyone else’s sake he can turn this around, but I have real doubts about his ability to get through this.

I would welcome Davie Hay to the coaching staff as he would bring a lot to the table, and not be hovering in the back ground attempting to step into the managers job.

On the issue of a fans takeover, I’m in and would gladly pay 300 quid and then some if it meant our club was owned by the fans, their are some very shrewd and business savvy tims out there so i would have no qualms about the club being fan owned

None of that’s going to happen until the huns’ position is resolved.

Administration seems inevitable. There are only three outcomes I can see to that

    1. they somehow do a deal with their creditors and survive as the same legal entity with a deduction of points (ie the issue of league registration doesn’t arise). An extremely unlikely outcome.

    2. they go bust and have to apply for admission to division three. No huns for at least three years, major impact on revenue and quality of football. Not an attractive proposition for an ambitious manager.

    3. they go bust and the rule book is torn up to allow their replacement to continue in the SPL. Probably a permanent mass exodus of fans from the game. Major loss of income and total loss of sporting integrity. Again a poisoned chalice for an incoming manager.

We live in interesting times, and it is truly a curse.

Thatcher, Blair, Brown and Cameron were all exposed by the Murdoch media empire scandal as poodles of right wing press and media barons, thanks to exposure from real investigative journalists at the Guardian, it means for me no thanks to Westminster rule, corruption and self serving at Westminster on a scale beyond belief.

Hold on Ernie. That plank of wood could the foundation for a new £land. ps thought I smelt summit there.

  20. I never watch the game yesterday so wont fly into judgment of the game and performance of the team.

we need to look at different options NOW.

in the modern game very few top teams play a 4-4-2 style now.

chelsea ,man utd, barca , madrid for example play a system that let them attack in numbers far better than we do.

i go back to our 4-4-2 strategy. predictable.

if we change the system we can carry another creative player in the side and protect the back 4.

why cant the management staff see this?

ki turns back inside 95% of the time and kills tempo of our speed. Lenny highlighted him as consistent? i question that.

the guy needs to take a risk a little more.

    hooper needs rested.

i would play forest upfront to play off the shoulder and run channels.

    paddy and stokes behind him

and three behind them that are tough.

You’re clearly not amenable to reason when it comes to the SNP.

  22. I suspect Nelly has his favourites and no matter how bad they play he is still going to pick them (Ki for instance).I get the feeling it is not a unified dressing room and to say what he said at the press conference will certainly no help.

Excellent post, which most supporters on here would

    probably agree with ….

442 is outdated, and every manager in the league knows

how we will line up, and they set up 451 to crowd us out

    in MF.

Neil doesn’t learn from his mistakes.

    St. Johnstone was unacceptable

2nd half at Ibrox was unacceptable

3-0 down to Killie is unacceptable

    Yesterday was unacceptable

12 points behind Rangers is unacceptable.

Does anyone believe that El Kaddouri was scouted ?

Surplus to requirement at Dynamo Kiev, yet ends up

In Paradise, is this the only LB we were interested in ?

We sign him for LB, then continue to play a RB out

    of position at LB.

    Unacceptable

    Unacceptable

  24. Guys,

I have no problems, other than a healthy disagreement, with those who have reached a position where they want the Manager sacked or the Board sacked.

However, when there is enough evidence to support your position, coming from our league position and general play, there is no need to gild the lily by swallowing and regurgitating the press distortion of our manager”s words or our players’ words.

I would also urge no dialogue with the obvious gloating huns who have decided to “break cover” today as they “cannot take it any more”. Don’t worry about them; they will soon have enough distractions of their own to not be able to bother with us. We will still have to consider how best to take Celtic forward, without their input.

I predicted last night that good Celtic men would fall out with each other because of the interference of hunfiltrators and some of our own becoming over-emotional.

Criticise all you like but don’t do the devil’s work for him. Character assassination of our manager is unacceptable to me. Where do you stand?

I’m off out again but I hope to see a return to better standards because we have been letting ourselves down recently

  25. moravcik @ 13.19

I agree with every word. The left-back situation is absolutely farcical.

Yes, we should go with a 4-3-3 system that is flexible and can become 4-5-1.

I would suggest at present: Wanyama, Ki and Ledley in midfield, with an attack of Forrest, Samaras/Stokes and O’Court. Brown and Commons could replace Forrest and O’Court when fit and as necessary.
