Celtic 1-0 St Johnstone

352

The champions stretched some of the limbs from their squad against St Johnstone tonight as a first half Anthony Stokes goal secured the points.  It was one of those rare, balmy, Celtic Park occasions when three or four layers of clothing were sufficient, not the customary seven or eight.

Highlight for the evening was the standing ovation for captain-for-the-night, Mark Wilson.  A 22-year-old Wilson joined Celtic over six years ago and provided us with some great memories, most notably his Scottish Cup-tie winning goal against Rangers last season, but his career has been blighted by injury since late 2006, robbing him of hundreds of appearances for the team he has supported all his life.

Moh Bangura had a rare 90 minutes and was unfortunate not to open his Celtic scoring account.  Anthony Stokes played a drear cross-field pass to Bangura, who was some 40 yards away.  The striker from Sierra Leone had options but made space for a shot which rebounded back off the post.

Bangura has a hand in Stokes earlier goal.  He got a touch on a 28th minute corner pushing the ball to Stokes who finished clinically.

Thereafter the outcome was never in doubt, although Celtic were seldom clinical.  21-year-old Nigerian Rabiu Ibrahim made his Celtic on 74 minutes when he replaced Kris Commons and looked comfortable on the ball.

The issue of ‘history’ is difficult, I doubt whether there will ever be full agreement about it. If the football authorities recognise Newco as ‘Rangers’, complete with history, then for official purposes that is that. Like you, I find it hard to say who could challenge it in a legal forum – what economic loss would anyone have suffered?

Whatever the strength of the various arguments may be, if the authorities grant Newco continuity of history with Rangers, then most Celtic fans (and than a few Rangers fans, I suspect) will disagree with them. And if they don’t, the same will happen with proportions broadly reversed.

What is unquestionable is that even if Newco does claim (and is granted officially) continuity of history, this issue will be a stick used by gleeful Celtic fans to goad Rangers fans for decades to come – which is a happy prospect, whatever one’s views on the subject!

Why is Ch4 News the only national mainstream medium to properly look at the shunnanigans at hunland?? The BBC meanwhile still continue to report the Media House spin!?!….and fail the tax payer AND TV licence payer by refusing to report the truth or the whole story. This is a feckin scandal that goes way beyond an evil wee excuse for a football club.

Looking forward to seeing some heads rolling for this in the near future. Especially the big fat one attached to Jabba’s excessively bulbous blubbery mass. The Sh~t Monster.

    NeilR,

TinyTim made it quite clear on rtc that they cannot claim the history, something to do with advertising standards authority. But then that was on rtc, it was copied and pasted here :0)

Used to be here was good enough :0D

  4. feels longer Canamalar – I dont get much time to properly contribute these days. I miss that (though I am sure others are grateful).

I didn’t see Tiny Tim’s post, either on RTC or here. (What a splitter, posting over there. I thought he was a nice guy too….) If he sees my post hopefully he’ll explain to me whatever I’m missing on that score, but as things stand, for the reasons set out earlier I don’t see any legal impediment to the ‘undertaking’ of Rangers, however owned, from laying claim to the history. I know it’s late and am not expecting a big re-analysis from anyone tonight, but am hoping that I’ll get some good feedback tomorrow on that and other points I’ve made.

FFS, in 20 yrs of boozing I have yet to sober up and have no intention of doing so now. I am entitled to vent my drunken spleen like everyone else >:((

Anyway, not that I want to develop the argument too much if it is such old hat, but is Channel 4 not funded by the TV licence fee as well, and hence should also be a spokesman for the crown, albeit a wee bit more of a treasonable one.

Is it so obivous whun I drink??

  10. i posted this on the last link my brother inlaw is working in China and has ask me to find out it anyone tell me if the GB have plans for a 4 horsemen t shirt? Have to say it would be a cracker.

It really is mostly about the fans no matter what officialdom states. That and the the eventual outcomes. For example Rangers playing at Ibrox in whatever form and whatever division will always have their record in the eyes of the fans. MK Dons in a different town and with a new stadium and mostly new fans, never consider themselves as having won the FA cup or having been in the top division.

Basically he said on rtc that trading standards would stop rfc(ia) in their

tracks in useing rfc newco history ie close down or pay your debts,

have trading standards have that kind of power ?

    NeilR,

His point was, his company took over a long standing competitor, absorbed them in the same way being proposed for corrupt utd, they found out the company were in fact the oldest in the area, so his company started advertising being the oldest because they were (they thought) seemlesly integrated. Along came the ASA and told them they could not make that claim as the old company died with the company number, regardless how seamless it appeared.

It’s posted on the last blog, but no sure which page.

To an anomalous species of terror I found him a bounden slave. “I shall perish,” said he, “I must perish in this deplorable folly. Thus, thus, and not otherwise, shall I be lost. I dread the events of the future, not in themselves, but in their results. I shudder at the thought of any, even the most trivial, incident, which may operate upon this intolerable agitation of soul. I have, indeed, no abhorrence of danger, except in its absolute effect–in terror. In this unnerved-in this pitiable condition–I feel that the period will sooner or later arrive when I must abandon life and reason together, in some struggle with the grim phantasm, FEAR.”

Yup and what fun it will be to watch their response.

“Youre not Rangers any more” is sure to have them foaming.

Thinking about history it only exists in three places.

1.History itself, a sort of infinite welldropping into the cosmos.

    2.History books and other media

3.People’s memories (which is why we need books and other media)

As time moves on there will be a break in 1. Rangers supportes will deny or ignore it but Newco will still be Newco.

    2. As time moves forward history books will record the feats or otherwise of Newco, even if the same name is used it will still be Newco (the price of tax dodging)

    3. Memories die with those that hold them and there will come a time when the only memories are of Newco.

History will record Oldco and Newco as tax dodgers regardless..
