Celtic 2-0 Dundee

726

Fabulous goals from Gary Hooper and Victory Wanyama put Celtic back on winning ways, their first victory in four games in September but Dundee held out until minutes before the break, aided by an excellent performance from Rab Douglas.

Another ex-Celt, Gary Irvine, had a penalty claim 7 minutes in but the ref wasn’t convinced; Irvine’s tumble was a tad overdramatic.  Celtic were cut open on 15 minutes when Colin Nish found space inside the box but his shot was blocked.  The rebound broke to John Baird who should have converted but fired over the bar.

A minute later Lassad, making his home debut, dribbled to the edge of the six yard box when he appeared to be tripped but again referee, Beaton, denied the claim.

Kris Commons then stepped up the pressure.  His cross was dummied by Lassad but Gary Hooper’s shot was saved.  Commons then played a diagonal ball through to Lassad who shot wide.

Charlie Mulgrew brought a good save from Douglas from a free kick on the edge of the D after Wanyama was brought down.  The Dundee keeper then topped that effort with a save from Forrest after a good cutback from Lassad, before saving again from the same player a minute later.

Lassad’s movement eventually brought a reward when Beaton pointed to the penalty spot after the former Deportivo striker had his legs clipped.  Scott Brown has been reliable from the spot this year but this effort didn’t get anywhere near the post, allowing Rab Douglas another opportunity to show what he can do.

Brown made amends a minute before the break when his forward pass was collected by Gary Hooper.  Hooper still had a lot to do but nutmeged his marker before firing home, from an angle, into the far corner.

The advantage was almost doubled a minute into the second half when Gary Irvine tried to chest the ball back to Rab Douglas but found the post instead, however, Dundee were two behind three minutes later.

Victor Wanyama shot low and hard from 26 yards, clipping the inside of the post before crossing the line.

Lassad almost opened his scoring account for Celtic with a good header but Rab Douglas was a match to the attempt again.  Tony Watt used his impressive strength to get a cross to Gary Hooper, who steadied before shooting against the upright.

  1. can someone tell me why the motherwell game is on saturday at 3pm. It must be the first time we have had a sat afternoon away game in a long long time. The fact its a top of table clash also makes it a strange shift in tv scheduling?

  2. Just back from a very nice night spent in Auld Reekie with the better half. I would just like to add my views on Wee Oscar’s Green Bucket Army. I had the privilege of being team leader of F battalion. I am in awe of the Celtic Family and feel very humble at the generosity of them. As Philvis said the world truly is a better place for having Celtic in it.

I would also like to thank the Dundee fans who were quick to donate also. I also need to thank the 4 guys who came out a silver mini bus at Kinloch street and donated very generously and admitted to “kicking with the other foot ” but just wanted to help. Thank you guys.

Also as well as meeting several CQN regulars I had a great opportunity to meet other Bhoys and Ghirls who are not on this site but were a part of my team and gave their all to raise funds for the wee mhan, again thank you.

To MWD for taking the photos do not sell my image to any hollywood mogul :)

Also nice to meet petec at the end very nice guy and generous to boot.

Once again what an honour just being a part of what yesterday was and to meet Stephen, Oscar’s da, very moving.

CRC, Bundhoran and Minx cap doffed at your tremendous efforts and stamina.

  3. More broadcasting excellence from BBC Sevco: “Wonderful control from Rangers youngster Barrie McKay to kill a fierce delivery from Lee McCulloch but his shot on the turn is scuffed and the ball trundles narrowly wide.”

  4. I think Mayo finished the first half well. I am conflicted in the game, but am glad to see Mayo make more of a game of it.

  7. the home keeper for the zombies has done well to keep his team in the game,

particularly after he palmed a shot round the post and his arm came off.

  8. Starry Plough. Nah, some more wonderfulness from a starlet from off the Ticketus Park conveyor belt has put Sevco 2-1 ahead.

  11. Slackness by Donegal have let Mayo settle into the game.

Jim won’t be pleased and I think Donegal were happy to hear the HT whistle.

I know I was. Time to re-focus and reassert their domination of the game.

Maybe Donegal were just taking a breather and will blow them away in the second half.

    OptimisticCSC.

  12. 3-1 now. Fun while it lasted, in a non-threatening, non-aggressive, non-discriminatory, non-Zombie-hating kind of way.

Second half at Croke should be a cracker i think it may be a case of Donegal keeping their noses in front if Mayo keep their momentum going.

Good game once the tiredness kicks in anything could happen, may the best team win.

1 point each scored so far 2nd half, Colm Mc Fadden St Michaels Gaa Creeslough Co Donegal now on 1-4(7pts) , McGlynn just scored for Donegal now 2-1 this half 2-06 to 0-8 = 12 to 8

  20. I had to look up that Halsey geezer ref who reckons he’s a ref : an outstanding one-sided performance by him with the end result in no doubt for ManUre and you wonder why there’s so much talk of matchfixing in the hallowed halls of uefa/fifa? It’s not just the players and staff who can influence matches. The refs, as we all know to our cost, can literally determine results if they wish. And more and more, a lot of them seem to believe they are the twelfth man for whatever team they deem to be in need of assistance….for whatever reason.

And the fact that Dallas was given such an exalted position by uefa beggars belief, or says it all; either way, it smacks of institutionalised corruption within football as a whole. That is beoming more and more obvious with every match I watch. No wonder, when you take into account all the other factors involved, that football is losing fans across the board and desperately luring customers who don’t care if they watch a footballing version of big-time wrestling.

The powers that be need to get a grip.

Having said that, I go back to watching ManCity v Arsenal. Hollywood meets Vegas comes to mind.

    Now, I wonder why?
