Celtic 5-0 St Mirren

1271

Celtic swept St Mirren aside this afternoon as a hat-trick from Gary Hooper and goals from Georgios Samaras and Dylan McGeough

Celtic came roaring out of the traps and blew St Mirren away this afternoon.  Georgios Samaras got the show underway on 4 minutes when he collected the ball after Marc McAusland failed to make a clean connection on the ball.  Samaras still had a lot to do and carried the ball into the box.  With defenders closing in from all around the Greek striker placed his shot instead of going for power.  St Mirren keeper, Craig Samson got a hand to the shot but the ball spun slowly towards goal and settled 8” over the line.

Four minutes later, a clearly confident Samaras drove into the St Mirren penalty box before cutting the ball left for Anthony Stokes, who’s fired cross was turned over the line from 3 yards by Gary Hooper.

Samaras was running the show but was hampered by a knock to the ankle which he took a few moments to recover from.  This coincided with St Mirren’s best period of play as the visitors gained more possession and territorial advantage in the period before half time.

Celtic started the second half just as brightly as they did the first as Hooper and Kayal could both have added to the score, however, the third would arrive 8 minutes into the second half.  Victor Wanyama played an excellent forward pass to Stokes who hit the goal line before cutting back for Gary Hooper.  Hooper collected with his back to goal but spun and shot in a sweeping move that left Samson with no chance.

Hooper completed his hat-trick on 57 minutes when he tried to play a one-two with Stokes but the ball was returned by a defender, allowing him to chip the on-rushing Samson.

18-year-old Dylan McGeough made his first impact as a Celtic player minutes after replacing James Forrest when he collected the ball 10 yards in front of his own box, ran 70 yards into the St Mirren box, before creating space and despatching Celtic’s fifth goal.  An unforgettable moment for the young player.

Surprised she didn’t fall for your charm but hey ho, she’s nae Tosh :)

I’d be delighted if your proposal came to pass. Firstly, it eradicates the subjectiveness of the dreaded ‘offensive’ word. Without that, the criminalisation of the Celtic support would be much more difficult because as we know our lyrics are neither sectarian or racist.

Secondly, I actually think you’re correct, this legislation is going through regardless. At least you are safe in the knowledge that you’ve put yourself out there and in hindsight can say, I told ye so and I tried to do something about it. Fair play big guy.

  2. Best quote in the Hall of Fame site.

On Jimmy McGrory 550 goals, “Considering his prolific goal scoring achievements it is surprising that he only won 7 caps for Scotland.”

    Not that surprising.

    Let the people sing.

Maybe… if any ‘rebel’ songs are to be sung, we should go for some from ’98…. imagine the confusion it would create

And come tell me Sean O’Farrell tell me why you hurry so

Husha buachaill hush and listen and his cheeks were all a glow

For the pikes must be together by the rising of the moon…….

time – and proximity – seems to be the gear for emotional reaction to songs…. logic is sadly missing

the day the GB sing Protestant Men, is the day all these eejits wont be able to raise a single argument.

  8. I was listening to Lennon on the radio in the car on the way home talking about young Dylan’s family being at the match and seeing him score. I couldn’t imagine how you would feel if your boy took to the field at Paradise, scored a wonder goal and you and your wife and your family were all there to see it.

It must have been incredible for them and, I confess, it made me feel quite emotional thinking about the pride they must have felt at the time. I hope they and Dylan are all having a fantastic evening.

I hope we all witnessed a new star today putting that fifth goal away with such confidence.

    Come on the Killie.

It is no real surprise on the cap front, if you can find a copy of the Paddy Crerand book on his career he gives a fair assessment of the bigotry in caps handed out at that time. He actually told the SFA to shove it when at the peak of his powers at Man Utd due to being dropped from the squad to make way for someone coming back from injury.

As he says in print it was not the fault of the Rangers players, he knew many of them and was particlulary pally with Slim Jim at the time, the Selection Committee of the SFA picked the players then not the manager. My old man tells me that Scotland had a back line of Crerand, Baxter and McNeil which has hailed as the best in many years when they played a match, next time out Greig was in and Big Billy was dropped. Also Crerand himself was dropped to make way for Dave Mckay who was not even a Half Back but a midfielder!!

Check out the great Jimmy McGrory cap tally 7 goals scored 6, such was life as a Celtic great in those times.

    Tragic but true.

  11. Fantastic result today. Now only 4 points behind fat sally and the detestables. We played well on wednesday and only managed to score twice yet today easily scored five.

Wonder if any of the bhoys who post and are good with the stats can give a break down of both games. Would be interesting. Not lazy but but not good wigh these things.

Now that would be a defining moment, I love that song, but sadly in this place it would be deemed sectarian.

  13. Hopefully a sneaky draw for killie tomorrow..

Then I hope pat fenlon does tthe damage at Easter road on the 10th…

IF we maintain this streak and the above happens that will hopefully see us 2 points behind for the damned visting us on the 28th

the tune to Boolavogue or Fr Murphy as some people know it, gets an airing most games

I’ve heard “So heres to those brave protestant men” is being learned – rumour perhaps, would be interesting – could that even be classed offensive ? I doubt it…

Hurrah The Brave United Men… at Paradise… imagine

The more I think about it, the more the devil in me likes the carnage this would cause amongst the pompous hypocrites… luv t see it

  16. Antrimkev, Nollaig and Lugan53 , i was at solitude for the reds win today. Young Rory looks like he could be the real deal, at 19 years old he has it all , skillful , good in the air and knows where the net is. Today he played as if he knew scouts were watching him , he wasn’t quite as effective as he has been in recent weeks. I would love to see celtic make a move for him , with Liam Boyce come in as his replacement. Another great win for the celts, well done the team and Neil Francis . Hail Hail.
