Celtic and Newco away form

272

Between February and October this year Celtic did not win a league game away from home.  This contributed to the demise last season and losing the opening three away from home has given this season a competitive look it would not otherwise have.

The title will be decided by whoever can get the job done on the road.  Since defeats at Hearts, Newco and Livingston, Celtic have won a remarkable 10 of 11 away games, only a draw at St Mirren spoiled the run.

Our direct title challengers have not won an away league game in over two months, remarkable in its own way – resulting in them squandering a six-point lead, as they now look ominously across the city.  Only three teams in the Premiership have waited longer for a win on the road.

This stuff is not easy.  On the back of those 10 wins, you would think it impossible for Celtic to go more than seven months without an away win (inc. summer), but with just a few elements missing, stubborn defences on their own pitch seem impregnable.

We have five away games left, two of them over the next two weekends.  If we make it 12 wins in 13 at the Plastic Pasta Pitch on 6 March, you will not get a bet on Celtic winning the title.

  1. SFTB, for what it is worth your recollection of the racist kojo chimes 100% with mine. It appears no matter how racist or sectarian a poster may be there are still some who appear to see them through rose coloured glasses.

Snide personal remarks, bile and ‘ganging-up’ should have no place on CQN – only my humble but strongly-held opinion – totally uncontroversial I would have thought.

    Time to let that go.

  15. STSTIVES ,The reason I mention about Barrowfield,Lennoxtown is some bloggers asking about the movement on some development players who train at these training grounds,I just like to be kept up to date if there is any progress at Barrowfield, but do me favour don’t get cheeky with me I might be 78 and my health could be better ,hopefully as the months pass I’ll be feeling better,oh I’m back at the gym so things are going the right way ,

  16. Mornin’!

The other shocker about the Boli transfer is his new club’s announcement they’ve signed the winger BB !!

I still think the cold-shouldering of this player (with a great engine and quick feet) has been bizarre to the point of vindictive – despite his entirely self-centred deceit and Scotch lawbreaking (which we, as Dubai watchers, well know can change at lightning speed depending on any opportune wave of public sentiment to be surfed).

But as Ange is prob a good judge of character, BB’s attitude must stink like a rotten smokie.

Kojo? Must have disappeared when I was on sabbatical from this forum so I’d missed his overt offences. He had a very unique narrative ‘voice/style’ not matched on here since, HOWEVVA (as he was wont to post) his removal clearly underlines you can be a dick on here as much as you want (many are) but not a racist dick: Hear hear!

Meanwhile in Australia, VAR becomes a laughing stock as ref takes almost 4 minutes to review footage which auld blind Barr (no offence to our visually challenged contributors) could have seen was a stonewall stamp.

    https://www.canberratimes.com.au/story/7631720/var-refereeing-under-spotlight-in-alm/?cs=14275

VAR – brought in to clarify and quicken borderline decisions – is often fuel for ref procrastination and bias confirmation.

Thurs will be tough and I expect the result will leave us free to concentrate on our tight. League campaign.

No prob if my prediction makes me wrong.

  17. TB10 @ 10.10

I hope that the club are working on a far reaching improvement of the club’s facilities — at all levels not just training.

As noted there are plans moving ahead to install a new full sized indoor pitch at Barrowfield which has the potential to include approx 500 seats if they set it up correctly.

Nothing fancy — rigid tent would be my description of it.

Rubb UK has some good ideas regarding work they have done for other clubs.

Plus a new set of changing rooms with a gym close by — middle class portacabin design vibe to my untutored eye so no looker but hopefully it allows more training effort / work to happen in the East End to the extent that the first team start training there.

That would leave L/town — not a fan of the idea / housing punt was my first thought when it was announced / trying to copy the earlier TFOD arrangements — as an academy for the various youth age groups with the potential to open it up for community use and youth games with a crowd.

The big tent full sized indoor pitch is not hugely expensive — £3mill is my guess.

The amount of money that gets you 2/3rds of a WH reject striker or a complete LB with a wanderlust.

Now that PL is not on a big wage we should be OK to fund both L/town and B/field.

The current situation where L/town is hidden away from view does not shine a good light on modern Scotland where the mentalist wing of our friends in Govan give the impression that they just want to trash anything to do with us — it would be good to see a few big signs highlighting its existence.

Consequently small steps moving forward — but progress nevertheless..

We really do need a Junior / B Team stadium near to P/head rather than our nomadic existence of renting parks all across the west of Scotland.

My first thought would be a refurb of the Crownpoint main field with a plan to install 5K seats.

JV with Glesga Life should work for both parties.

And then there is the stadium itself — desperately needing an upgrade / expansion.

Wee FMcC’s design is over 30 years old and it shows with the level of fan facilities on offer.

Big bucks to do it properly but we cannot fall further behind than we already are.

Plug number for discussion — £100mill spend to generate £15mill extra income PA– any takers?

£20mill invested from reserves plus an £80mill bond paying out £3-4mill in interest every year should see us well on our way with the usual nonsense of debentures / naming rights / sponsorship to help out.

The main element would be a new main stand to get us to the magic number of 67K seats.

Plus another 8-10K seats in the attic for high days and holidays plus tourists.

As has been shown this season — better players / better football and the crowds get bigger.

No more PL inspired sleepy hollow anti growth agenda.

we need a “b stadium”, the academy closed, dismantle the youth pathway set up, more and better coaches, Saint Ninians association broken up, lennoxtown sold for housing development, barrowfield invested in like what Man City does, a new indoor pitch, an elevated undercover walkway between our new car park in the sky and the two stadiums ………… and, and and

    we need

the main stand redeveloped, with a new seating capacity of 80,000.

a light rail system connecting celtic park with glasgow airport and blair drummond safari park.

a place for billionaires helicopters to land.

not just any retail outlets, but m and s cafe styled ones.

a grid of ev charging points for those attending the hospitality so their cars are ready to go.

modernised toilet facilities like a Premiem golf club locker room.

    and hot water and towels

anything less shows a lack of ambition form the plc.

  23. I’ve just come on and see some mention of Kojo. I know he’s not popular with many on here because of his politics but I liked him because he was a genuine Celtic supporter irrespective of his politics and he was particularly knowledgeable about our development players. I don’t post as much as I used to but I still love this site. I try to tune in each day to read what’s happening and I read all sorts of political posts and views, some of which I sympathise with and many which I totally disagree with. However, most of these posts are made by Celtic supporters and it’s their views on Celtic that I’m really interested in. All the rest is bull pucky as Kojo would have said.

Kojo has disappeared into the ether like so many other great posters we once had on CQN. I for one miss him.
