Celtic and Newco away form

272

Between February and October this year Celtic did not win a league game away from home.  This contributed to the demise last season and losing the opening three away from home has given this season a competitive look it would not otherwise have.

The title will be decided by whoever can get the job done on the road.  Since defeats at Hearts, Newco and Livingston, Celtic have won a remarkable 10 of 11 away games, only a draw at St Mirren spoiled the run.

Our direct title challengers have not won an away league game in over two months, remarkable in its own way – resulting in them squandering a six-point lead, as they now look ominously across the city.  Only three teams in the Premiership have waited longer for a win on the road.

This stuff is not easy.  On the back of those 10 wins, you would think it impossible for Celtic to go more than seven months without an away win (inc. summer), but with just a few elements missing, stubborn defences on their own pitch seem impregnable.

We have five away games left, two of them over the next two weekends.  If we make it 12 wins in 13 at the Plastic Pasta Pitch on 6 March, you will not get a bet on Celtic winning the title.

  1. Dessybhoy, totally agree just had this vision of uefa officials greeting when considering doing the right thing

  2. Hibs,we have the beating of.Livi.What is it about this team full of Tradesmen, that ruffles our feathers so much.We never had many problems in games at Hamilton and Killie. The odd upset, but not to the extent of this mob. They have become very similar to another mob,ICT,who for a few years were a real jinx team to us.Very strange thing.Players, managers change, yet it goes on.

    Hopefully we get the win.Ange has been there,got a bloody nose,so let’s see.On paper,not a contest.As I said,very strange.

  3. I’m always amazed when folks talk about this and that one leaving the site – the garrulous binge an’ bilge posters – addicted to long-copy characterful “stories” can chop and change thur handles with relative ease……apparently disappearin’ wan minute then “hey presto” appear again in a new kostume spoutin’ the same old same old…………….

  4. Kojo — one of his / her / It’s many monikers — bigged up players who ended up at Swindon and did not kick on.

Consequently file under an attention seeker looking for cheap laughs.

Or a youth team booster trying to turn a trick.

For the record his dug talked more sense.

  5. I remember Kojo pulling me up once for suggesting someone was an attention seeker. He had the good grace to suggest the act of posting on CQN suggested we were all guilty of it, rather than saying “that’s exactly what you’re doing, pal,” which would have been entirely correct.

    Certainly made me think

  6. `Apparently, Uefa is almost certain `

    Apparently AND almost certain?

Why does that sound strange to me?

A very good summation of the pitfalls of rearing colts these days.

However, even if it were only for their three league performances against Rankers this season , we should recognise the fruits of the youth policy at Tannadice, in the face of other “splash the cash” clubs.

  8. Just for balance.

Where any of those now looking for sanctions by FIFA/UEFA against the Russians also looking for sanctions against those countries and member clubs who were involved in an illegal war in Iraq with an estimated death toll of over one million people.

    We were one such club.

No fan of Putin but this smells of hypocrisy.

That would suggest that any act of communication is attention seeking at its lowest level.

    File under wind up.

    He did that a lot.

I think Kojo was part of PL’s extended family — even PL himself when looking after CFC was a part time job.

It would seem that old habits die hard where Russia is concerned.

  11. Kojo went when he couldn’t camoflague his racism any longer. Why would anyone want a blatant racist posting on a Celtic site

  12. Sevco played Away and had an incredible result against Dortmund. They then played Away in the League on Sunday and dropped two points.

We are playing Away on Thursday and if we go through, that will be an incredible result. We then have a difficult Away match on Sunday. Hmm….

Maybe we are now locked into the ‘law of diminishing returns’ from our youth system?

Explain how the law of diminishing returns applies here, please.

Don’t hold your breath. JHB & his sidekick ERNIE LYNCH are champions at making brash statements, until they are asked to explain or qualify said statements.

Then it’s silence or, in the case of Ernie, insults and backtracking when he can’t provide an answer.

I think the word is charlatans.

  14. I never had particularly strong opinions either way about him, but Kojo isn’t here to defend himself so I don’t think discussing him is a particularly decent thing to do

  15. How many weeks before certain posters start labelling Kyogo a “wage thief” like they did with Jullien?

“AR leaving DU — lots of chat on CQN regarding his abilities.

Playing well with potential was the consensus.”

Overdoing the recollections there. At time of transfer to Hull, there was very little mention and no encouragement of Celtic to buy him. We had a Can correspondent who was a friend of the family and he always championed Andy but there were very few takers.

I think you may be mistaking this for the period when Liverpool bought him when there were a lot of Captain Hindsights on here claiming we should never have let him go and/or bought him back earlier.

BTW, I was talking up a United defender who was MOTM against Sevco and I was put right on a lot of the boy’s deficiencies by a better footballer.

When looking at players, we have to strike in that awkward period between their potential becoming apparent and their potential becoming obvious to all. No room for Captain Hindishts in that spot; you are gonna get a few gems, a few passables and a lot of wrong.

  17. The weather forecast for Bodo is 24hrsof snow Wed/Thurs ,I just hope Celtic can get back in time to prepare for the Hibs game. Playing within the Arctic Circle at this time of the year seems ridiculous.

  18. FIFA gave the world cup to Qatar – Uefa are only interested in money – there’s no saying what they’ll do.

  19. Now that the B Team is up and running, I believe the best use of scarce resources would be to aim for a pool of some sixty/sixty-five players, including all the first-team squad and those most likely to achieve access to it. This might be called the ‘Club Squad’.

This would focus minds and allow youngsters to feel that they are ‘in the mix’ and ready to step up. It may persuade some who might leave to stay, although not guaranteed.

This “Club Squad’ can be evaluated at the end of each season with some dropping-out, some added, some sent out on loan. Transfers in & out would continue as normal.

All others who wish to use the ‘Celtic’ name, for football purposes, should be run on an independent arms-length franchise-style operation, with no direct affiliation, oversight, or, administrative direction from the club itself.

It may be that the Bartowfield site could be further developed with Lennoxtown disposed of to save scarce resources. Our ongoing ability to remain ‘top dog’ domestically and compete competently in Europe will depend on how we use the resources at our disposal wisely.

That would suggest that any act of communication is attention seeking at its lowest level.

I don’t communicate with my family the same way I do on here.

There’s all manner of communication on here, some of it based around genuine community, some about the genuine desire to improve Celtic. But there’s an irony in anyone on an internet Turin digging someone else up fir attention seeking

    We all do it

  27. If you invest, and increase that investment over time, in a system to develop young players, and if the cream of those young players is being harvested by others, as is increasingly happening at Celtic over the last few years, before it can be utilised by the club for its intended purpose, i.e. to play at first-team level, then the return on that increasing investment can be said to be diminishing.
