Celtic-Atletico programme as 40,000 hearts beat as one

639

Our  unofficial Celtic v Atletico Madrid match programme is now available.  We preview tomorrow’s match as well as the other game in our group between Rennes and Udinese, as well as a look back 37 years to that infamous game against Atletico in the European Cup semi-final.

European nights have always been special in my Celtic supporting time.  When I was a boy they would fill Celtic Park whereas it was predominantly empty on domestic duty.  The modern era brought great Uefa Cup and Champions league moments but for a while, even at the peak of our Champions League prowess, the stadium lost something to corporate interests.  I remember watching fans walk out of the stadium with 10 minutes on the clock when we were drawing 0-0 with Milan!

Tomorrow night will be more like the great days I remember, when every soul inside the ground was plugged into the nervous anticipation that pumps through all our veins.

Atletico Madrid occupies a similar place in our history to Rapid Vienna.  If you were around during the 70s and 80s, when these two clubs eliminated Celtic on their way to European finals, by violence and dishonesty respectively, games against these clubs will have an added dimension.  Two years ago we finished above a decent Rapid team in the Europa League group stage who had already dumped Martin O’Neill’s Aston Villa.  When Scott McDonald’s goal went in I raised my arms and inadvertently punched the safety ladder at the back of the North Stand, the cut knuckles and bruising lasted weeks.  It was a stupid incident but captures the, 40-odd-thousand-people-one-heartbeat, phenomenon that we get to experience too seldom in our lives.

I’m going to look out the hoops tonight, been ages since I’ve worn them.  Bring on Atletico, Falcao ‘n’ all.

I’ve just received an acknowledgement from BTP for my FOI request into stats on football related offences from seasons 06/07 till 10/11. Have you asked for seasons prior to this? If you can ask for the five preceding seasons, we’ll have ten years data to shine some light on Scotland’s Shame.

We are asking publicy but nobody is listning.

The MSM will not start asking now having ignored it for so long, the hun hoards would turn on them for not telling them.

It will be ignored in the hope it all goes away, and if it doesn’t all go away, they will campaign for the hun to be saved.

As for the club, playing with fire, get it wrong we can say by, by to Celtic.

I enjoyed the first few and it was a real change from what I usually read but I’m finding them rather repetitive now.

For the Germans it was 10€ entry tonight X 12K crowd = 120K euros + TV fee – less expenses.

Did they take this game on tonight for circa £100K gross?

Saw some word of Duffield being here at the Soccerex on here today.

    Absolute balderdash, I say!!

He’s (allegedly) here on a twofold mission:-

    1) To give CBF President, Ricardo Teixeira some tips on how to run a fitba organisation.

    2) To visit well known plastic surgeon, Senior Habeen A. Dickov. Apparently he has a second passport in his bag and will be known as “Gina” on the flight home…..

….remember where you read it first!!

PS. An absolute fantastic end to the season scheduled here this Sunday (all games ko of 19:00 UK time) every single one of the ten games are involved in deciding who stays up/goes down/wins titles/goes into the International competitions or not.

At first I didn’t understand the logic of having all the derby games on the last day of the season but (in typical Brasilian fashion) the idea is to avoid favouritism. If, for example, a Rio team was playing in São Paulo on the last day they might not try too hard, if a victory meant another Rio winning the title (that’s the logic, honest).

You could just see the SFA switching a final day Celtic/Hibs and Dodgers/mini Dodgers fixture around to ensure all East / West derbies couldn’t you?

  14. All of the LL were totally gutted when we reached the Europa league and the huns did’nt. They kept on telling us that it will hamper our chances on winning the title. The same can be said with our pre-season globe trotting friendlies which we were making decent money.

So why oh why is no-one slating the huns for playing a ‘friendly’ midweek?? Is that not going to hamper their title challenge??

On another note when we were playing catch up, being 12 points behind they never mentioned the game in hand, on 3 separate occasions on Saturday when reported the gap was down to four points it was stated that the orcs had played one game fewer!!

Sportscene on Sunday just summed things up with them showing that ex hibs player scoring against us in 2008 ( scored a winner for Caley against thems more recently) then they showed the 3 goals the last time ST Mirren beat us at CP, whilst they showed the huns winning the league at rugby park

    The whole ‘set-up’ stinks imo

Really cannot wait till they go under for a big GIRUY

I hope Hamburg lose money on tonight’s game.

A painful lesson for them: liaisons with the huns costs you money – just ask HMRC and any number of creditors that have hauled the filth through the courts.

Do you honestly think they will have this data m8 after all the government destroyed it to hide from everyone.

The only other thing i can think of is maybe Paul67 got it all from 2003 upwards.

on strike the morra, going in early to get my bhoy a ticket for the game.He wants to go with his mates to lower tier

but his season ticket is for the upper.Does anyone know if he has to take his own ticket for the concession price

or would he be able to sit elsewhere? its only £2 extra so no that big a deal but would go towards one of the many

pints i will no doubt get involved in tomorrow!

I saw ttt’s reply to you earlier today and his thoughts on the club’s silence, and I know where you stand, I would be somewhere in between.

When it comes to the referees, I agree that we will get ridiculed, when it comes to the integrity of the game I am astounded at their silence.

A blind man can see what is happening, but hey it’s scotland, move along Timmy, nothing to see here.

Rightly or wrongly, I have to hold faith that the board will make the right choice, and their silence is in their game plan, I have to there is no other option for me, you know where I stand on the board, but in this instance I have to believe they will do the right thing.

Cos if they don’t, lights oot.

I was at that shameful game where Atletico Madrid brutalised us in a way that makes your average SPL team look like the flower fairies.

Watching their game against Real the other night I noticed that they still have a bit of that in them. Much as I hope that we gub them tomorrow,

I’m hoping that we avoid any injuries to key players ahead of the much more important game at Tannadice.

I know, I know and my opinion of politicians is as cynical as anyone but this woman has been accused of the most blatant anti-RC bias. Not by a student working part-time for her but by her long time political and media adviser.

This man –no matter how bitter he is–has slandered her or told the truth about her on public forums that bring her and her office as Convener of the Justice Committee into disrepute.

She must sue or resign. I cannot see how she can do otherwise.

As for her expenses. This is now with the Crown Office but she should stand down while this is being investigated. That is what Keith Vaz did at Westminster in similar circumstances.

This is for football related offences not the religious aggravated ones which the Crown Office deleted as “routine data retention policy”. The request has been made, so we’ll find out in a few weeks.
