Celtic in Group of Champions

918

Celtic join Barcelona, Milan and Ajax in the Champions League’s only group of former champions.

We beat Barcelona and Milan the last time we played each of them, and eliminated Ajax from the same competition last time we met 12 years ago. This is an incredibly difficult group, but it is the job we wanted this time yesterday.

Now we must get ready for the task ahead.  Prepare properly and fear no one.

There will be a ticket scramble, among those who didn’t renew their season tickets………..

I agree in the main, – however having been granted the task, the concern apart from the ignorance of paddypower’s employee, was that the attempted apology referred to “not being aware” of the personal circumstances.

This clearly was clumsy at best, or downright stupid at worst, because it suggests that had the employee known of Billy’s condition he wouldn’t have said what he did, but were it not for the condition or circumstances, it was still o.k. to have said what he said, and thereby mocking Billy, just as plain elderly person, in difficulty?

The fault rests with paddypower, for allowing an idiot to represent them.

Still not sure whether is Cesar or Caesar, either way he’s a Celtic Ambassador, that may be a target on FF, but that shouldn’t extend to nefarious representatives of multi million pound companies, with a platform to think up tasteless on the spot asides, without censure.

Sent my Daughter email – screen grabbed the pages. Will do the 9th/ 10th depending on price going up from £70 flights .v. an extra night in hotel – same as you check out day after game.

Will contact the Spanish in the morning re: hotels – any ideas of numbers (more than you and me)?

Have emailed TET. Reasonably sure I’ve found cheap flights to get there Monday – asked my Daughter to compare Monday v Tuesday (cost difference v extra night in hotel).

Soon as she confirms (later today) – I will ask my Spanish contacts for somewhere accessible to Nou Camp/ City. 4-6 singles?

Assume others will hook-up over the next few days?

  9. Ghuys – i don;t know if anyone is interested/has already reported this, but the daily torygraph, a loathsome thatcherite rag, which is read UK-wide included this comment in their coverage of the draw:

17.11 That concludes the Pot 1 teams. Billy McNeill is despatched off the stage in disgrace, with barely a ripple of applause greeting him as he finds his seat at the back of the auditorium, very possibly in one of the Restricted View areas. You had one job, Billy. One job.

I don’t know where you get the idea about Billy McNeill’s “lack of formal education”.

He attended Our Lady High, Motherwell, one of only 3 catholic high schools in Lanarkshire at the time.

He joined Celtic after leaving school at the end of his 5th year during which he captained the 1st XI as they won the Scottish Secondary Shield. I’m pretty sure he passed a few highers.

He was always a polite and able speaker and a great ambassador for our club.

The image of him lifting aloft the big cup is forever etched in my memory.

I’m sure the PP organisation will be aghast at their employee’s crass comments.

    Hail Caesar!

    Thanks for this info.

I have copied & pasted the complete section where they denigrate Billy McNeill.

” 17.11 That concludes the Pot 1 teams. Billy McNeill is despatched off the stage in disgrace, with barely a ripple of applause greeting him as he finds his seat at the back of the auditorium, very possibly in one of the Restricted View areas. You had one job, Billy. One job.

17.09 Benfica and Porto out of the hat, which leaves Manchester United in Pot A. Gianni now having to remind Billy McNeill to hold the slip of paper up for the cameras. This is getting quite hard to watch.

17.08 Barcelona in Group H. Try to derive some significance from that. You will fail. I’ve tried, and I do tenuous for a living.

E-mailTony Hood: “If the Pot system is based on success over the last five years can you explain why Arsenal, who have not won a Pot of any description for at least 7 years, are still allowed in Pot 1. They are indeed Potless!”

Consistency, Tony. It’s the new trophies.

17.07 Gianni has now completely taken over ball-opening duties from Billy. Billy is being a reduced to a reading-out-bits-of-paper role. Real Madrid and Bayern Munich go into Groups B and D respectively.

17.06 Chelsea in Group E. That means both of the Manchester teams will be in Groups A-D. The four English teams are split into separate halves of the draw for optimum TV moolah.

17.05 Billy McNeill, bless him, is having a little trouble getting these little balls open. Gianni has to give him a hand.”

Kris Commons: This beats beating Barca….

….“I thought beating Barcelona was one of the highlights of my career. Certainly winning the double last year was one also. But this eclipses everything. To come from two goals down and to win it in the 90th minute was one of the greatest moments of my life. Going into the break with the goal was a massive twist of fate for us. It changed the complexion of the team talk. We thought, ’we are half way there.’ But as regards important goals, I think James will get all the plaudits for getting that goal in the last minute.”
