Celtic interims stunning-ageddon

858

Champions League football this season has enabled Celtic to achieve a remarkable set of interim financial results for the period 1 June 2012 to 31 December 2012.  Turnover was up 71%, a stunning-ageddon figure.

Ticket sales and other stadium revenue was up marginally, to £18.598m (2011: £16.446m), as was merchandising, to £9.847m (2001: £7.821m), both reflecting the ancillary value of Champions League participation, but the big increase was in TV and media income, £21.613m, up from a paltry £5.004m in the same period of 2011.

The only amber flag on the results was the increase in operating costs, from £28.388m to £36.961m, a 30% increase, which will reflect higher bonus payments for Champions League participation, higher wage costs and a more general increase in running costs.

Pre-tax profit came in at £14.944m, leaving net bank debt at £130k.

These are fantastic results from a well-run club which will enable ever-more solid foundations to be laid.  We are also one of the few clubs to qualify for the latter stages of the Champions League AND to do so profitably. Congratulations to all.

I’m participating on an online STV preview at 18:30 tonight, looking forward to the small challenge ahead.  Hope you can join us.

The event is part of our 125 4 125 campaign – central to reinvigorating the charitable spirit which is part of the club we love. It will be a family occasions, tickets are available at £10 for adults and £5 for children. The night has been organised by several fans working in conjunction with the people at Celtic Charity, so please do your best to support this great occasion. Individual tickets or tables are available, details here.

I’ll see you there.

  1. Back in Auckland tonight after a magic week in the Bay of Islands and went googling for Auckland CSC ahead of the game tomorrow morn. First results pointed me to Advanced Clinical Skills Centre. Mmmmm…… Promising I thought. :-)

    Forza Celtic. Forza Fallon!

  2. Ever since the draw was made and the crass tweet of “bye bye Celtic” by STV was announced there has been a sea change in the perceptions of……..well just about everyone really.

This game and tie can go either way, it is more even than many care to admit. The belief and steadfastness shown by NFL, his staff, his team and the supporters has finally permeated down to the neutrals. We are not here to make the numbers up.

There is there is the general acceptance now that Celtic are as big as anyone in Europe given fair play and equal opportunity.

We have bigger and better stadia than most, we have better supporters than anyone, we have a history you cannot buy or manufacture, and a globally recognisable shirt, oh and 130k of debt.

They say supporting Celtic has become fashionable. Most of us have always supported Celtic does that mean we have always been fashionable ;)

Its your time Celtic……….and the time is now.

    Personally..

    I would Prefer a Seville Run 1-1 Home draw to a 0-0 or Even a 1-0 Victory..

The Italians would Just Sit on the Away Goal and We Hit them on the Break.. Just Like Blackburn and Liberpool..

Good morning fellow Celts – fine day for a footy match in CL

Heading to CP now to change a ticket -embdy want a pie & bovril?

  7. Cold and somewhat crisp in the east end this morning. Celtic park has had the European makeover with the CL hoardings installed and ‘Zadoc the Priest’ is ready to go. 3000 Juve fans will sample the delights of Glasgow today but 57,000 Tims are on the march: planes, trains, buses,…and a ten minute drive for me.

Come on you Bhoys in Green!

Re. It being fashionable to support Celtic now.

Amazing how quickly things change in football. I was asked about a year and a half ago by a Liverpool fan if I supported anyone else as well as Celtic! The implication being…well I’m sure you can work it out. I’d say he’ll be watching us tonight -I certainly saw the West Brom goals at Anfield last night on Sky news this morning, pretty sure it was after they covered the main event tonight;)

Will be interest to see what negative spin the Scottish media dream up when we win the CL this season… One thing’s for sure….they’ll be sick as puggies…..LOL

“Aye, but who else do you support apart from Celtic”

That’s the question I got asked most when growing up, surely you must have an English team as well they say.

NO, I said, there is only Celtic.

To be fair to STV (whit?) it was on the ITV official site that that tweet appeared, ‘Bye bye Celtic’. Makes it all the sweeter that it’s ITV doing the coverage tonight, which probably means we’ll get a fairer coverage than if it had been STV, with its Deid-Club Experts in the studio for every game.

  15. Picture on Twitter that kits have been inspected by officials, Forster and Matthews laying out.

Just need to guess the other 9 starting players.

Sheer ignorance it is. Even their eyes will be opened now..but for how long?! They’ve erased all memories of us beating two English sides to get to the Uefa final in 2003… or else they say ‘ah but you had Larsson then…you don’t have Larsson now!’

Doing our talking on the pitch is the best way to shut them up – and long may it continue!

Gordon_J @ 10:11 – I’m feeling the same….at the moment! When I’m in the ground and that CL theme starts up, then my attitude will change.

I’m actually concerned about Juve’s long history of cheating/bribing, not so much tonight, but what might happen in the return leg. If we get past this lot and reach the quarter finals for the first time in many years, then it will be a remarkable acheivement.

OMG, I’m watching SSN and they’ve got Ian Dowie as a tactical analyst for our game…..seriously!

  19. Been avoiding CQN this morning as I knew if I logged on my productivity today would go out the window.

Just caved in and logged on, butterflies in the stomach building just reading about the stadium being set up for CL tonight and Juventus fans already congregating on George Square.

Oh to be back in Glasgow preparing for the game, will be shouting the team on from afar tonight and know that the support will be doing the same in paradise.

So proud of our Celtic today, regardless of the result this has been a fantastic achievement by NFL and a fast maturing team.

Contrary to reports, DBBIA was not ‘missing’.

He was in fact on an assignment to track down Cadizzy. Of course, Cadizzy’s talent for blending into the crowd, disappearing, while wearing nothing but a bright yellow cagoule and green Adidas Dragon trainers, only Marcus Brodie could match.

The negative spin of the MSM if we win the Champions League is easy to spot – they’ll criticise us for sending out a second-string team the next day in thje Scottish Cup Final!
