Celtic interims stunning-ageddon

858

Champions League football this season has enabled Celtic to achieve a remarkable set of interim financial results for the period 1 June 2012 to 31 December 2012.  Turnover was up 71%, a stunning-ageddon figure.

Ticket sales and other stadium revenue was up marginally, to £18.598m (2011: £16.446m), as was merchandising, to £9.847m (2001: £7.821m), both reflecting the ancillary value of Champions League participation, but the big increase was in TV and media income, £21.613m, up from a paltry £5.004m in the same period of 2011.

The only amber flag on the results was the increase in operating costs, from £28.388m to £36.961m, a 30% increase, which will reflect higher bonus payments for Champions League participation, higher wage costs and a more general increase in running costs.

Pre-tax profit came in at £14.944m, leaving net bank debt at £130k.

These are fantastic results from a well-run club which will enable ever-more solid foundations to be laid.  We are also one of the few clubs to qualify for the latter stages of the Champions League AND to do so profitably. Congratulations to all.

I’m participating on an online STV preview at 18:30 tonight, looking forward to the small challenge ahead.  Hope you can join us.

The event is part of our 125 4 125 campaign – central to reinvigorating the charitable spirit which is part of the club we love. It will be a family occasions, tickets are available at £10 for adults and £5 for children. The night has been organised by several fans working in conjunction with the people at Celtic Charity, so please do your best to support this great occasion. Individual tickets or tables are available, details here.

I’ll see you there.

It made it a whole lot sweeter when we won!

If we didn’t,I just told them to GTF,and kicked them out the door……

  5. During the World Cup in Germany in 2006, big Dowie was on a punditry panel with Martin O’Neill and Leonardo (ex AC Milan player and coach, Brazilian internationalist and awfy braw).

Martin remarked on the impression Leonardo was creating among all the women said bringing in big Dowie to restore the balance with his negative-handsomeness was a good thing.

  6. It will be worth recording ITV, as they have Henrik in the studio as a guest. Apart from that we’ve no choice as they have the exclusive rights to the game.

Welcome back. Not before time, though I do appreciate it can be difficult to get modern gadgets repaired in D&G.

Tenpence in the meter,or a blinkin’ big hammer still works wonders in Swindon….

  8. I say keep hiring Dowie, Craigan, Burley and all these other cliché-peddlers. It can only hasten the day when we just get the ambient sound from the stadium and information on captions at the touch of a button if you really must now how many months it is since a guy took 12 throw-ins in the first half of a game on a Tuesday.

Thought about the game tonight a few times but totally relaxed about it.

So usual plan of action-don’t get mad,get even….

Off to the pub to ponder the ways of the world, have a grand evening.

  16. Morning all from a rather sunny Maryhill.

Glad I have today off work as didn’t sleep too well – with tonight’s game at the forefront of my thoughts . Won’t bore you with all the permutations but…

Neil Lennon has a tendency to make surprise choices in his teams and therefore it wouldn’t surprise if somebody is picked that nobody else would have chosen. I wouldn’t pick Izzy and unless Sammi is a lot fitter than suggested at the weekend I’d be tempted to keep on the bench until sn hour in. I am not the manager and I’m sure NFL will given as much thought to his team as everybody on this board has combined.

Juve don’t have a great forward to compare with previous teams of there’s we’ve faced but they still score reasonably and Vucinic (possibly sic) looks a good player to me. Without Chiellini though there defence doesn’t look good. Objectively both teams are pretty good but perhaps a year away from being serious contenders for the cup itself- but because we may lose a couple of our best players in the summer ( which Juve won’t unless Pirlo and Buffon retire) this may be our best chance for a wee while. Like Paul yesterday I do not go with the idea that we have nothing to lose. It was great to get through – a terrific achievement- but we’ll be scunnered if we go out whether narrowly and unluckily a la Milan 6 years ago or llargely outplayed as we were a year later by Barca.

Obviously I hope we do it and whilst I agree with whoever it was on the blog who said that beating Juve over two games will be better beating Barca in one. I do think we can do it. Juve are trying to say all the right things about us but there is also a feeling I have that they think they got an easy ride through to the last eight and unless we win by more than 1 goal tonight they’ll think they are home and dry.

I haven’t looked forward to a match so much since we played Real Madrid 33 years ago – including the actual match in Seville- and whilst I hope things dont work out as they did then a wee repeat of that first leg all those years ago would be nice!

Hail! Hail! and apologies for rabbitting on. I’m a bit giddy like George in Bkackadder Goes Forth at the thought of a possible Big Push
