Celtic League of Nations

937

It is worth more than a passing observation that in yesterday’s game Celtic had players from 11 different countries in the starting line-up:

England, Sweden, Honduras, Scotland, Nigeria, Netherlands, Finland, Israel, Ireland, Greece and Wales.

Recruitment came from clubs in 7 different league structures:

England (3) and Wales, Scotland, Norway, Honduras, Israel (2), Netherlands and Germany.

There were a further four different nationalities on the bench.

Of the starting line-up only Fraser Forster is not a full international, although that is surely only a matter of time, but Fraser is the only player we have from a large football nation, perhaps an indication that it is more difficult to recruit nationals from England, Germany, Italy, France and Spain than elsewhere.

The signing of Emilio Izaguirre from Honduras three years ago came two years after the player’s representatives had him on trial in England.  It’s likely Emilio’s CV was in every mailbox in the British game, so I doubt we have much of an infrastructure in Central America.

Celtic have obviously matured links in Israel recently, Beram Kayal and Efe Ambrose have delivered value, while Nir Biton fits the profile of the player Celtic should be looking for.  Embedding relationships in similar markets offers a higher likelihood of value – and therefore football development – than taking our chance on the mainstream British and European circuits.

Prize to anyone who can point to Guinea-Bissau (Amido Balde’s country of birth and location of a Sporting Lisbon-associate club) on the map. There is a lot of work to do to catch up with the Portuguese.

A bit late in the day to be posting, but, caught a bit of SSB tonight. Nearly crashed the taxi, when I heard BFDJ and DL?

Not sure who DL is but I do know Jim Duffy was also on and he was quoting what was said at the Sandy Jardine dinner. I got the impression he agreed with what was being said. Then again he knows where his bread comes from.

  2. Kojo, if you’re around, here’s another name for you to check out. Calvin Miller. As I mentioned in a previous post, I had the boy in the school team I helped run a couple of seasons back. I believe he will be playing for Scotland against Wales later this week, (Sky Sports ,Wednesday I think!).

If he can keep his nose clean, and avoid the usual distractions of Castlemilk, I think he’s destined for great things.

He was recently voted the best player in the world for his age, an award which was previously also won by Neymar!

    Erryarr!

I’m not that intellectually deficient that I can’t also chat with yourself ffs !! :)))

I was born in 73, so can’t relate from experience on the history of hun mentality.

But if it merits a mention on the Likely Lads in 1974, ….makes you think about the politics of it. Yet again, ourselves, Dundee Utd and Aberdeen are done over by hunnery Hunnery is dismissed as a Scottish issue in England, hence little respect or mention for the achievements made.

My answer is this – set up a “NSSFA” in Scotland, and whatever clubs want to join can, knowing it will be fair and good football.

  4. Michael….

They have taken you away…. :0)

If shareholders choose to exercise their legal right to determine that their interests have been adequately protected by the CEO..

    What is objectionable about that?

It would seem you think only certain shareholders are worthy of their legal right.

On the question of US NFL.

No. Keep Fitba as it is. Just clean up the rule bending.

    Red Sox on a roll…. 3-1 up.

  5. Sorry ffm,

I’ll ignore the fact you didnt realy answer any of my points:

    You cant be bothered providing evidence of the bullying;

    You don’t know the fundamentals of resolution 12;

    I think I have written 5000 words. I was not talking about typos. I was talking about illiteracy. It is a common failing of engineers;

    You have ignored his claim that Celtic had altered his proposition. They hadn’t;

Yes I can provide evidence that there was a capaign suggesting P67 was said to be working for PL. I’m not going to post the whole campaign, but I reckon this gives you a flavour:

So Canamalar has been banned. He has just spent the last 6 weeks preparing a resolution for the AGM that if accepted would force the board into asking questions as to how Rangers got their licence in their last season , questions the board are desperate not to be asked.Canamalar was like a dog with a bone , he never gave up. He asked the questions that many Celtic fans want answers to but neither have the expertise or the tenacity to pusue the suits that know the answers to those questions. The celtic board were not pleased! Then Canamalar is banned supposedly for upsetting other CQN users and not the board!. What a coincidence.Hope you come back soon Canamalar . You represent a significant section of Celtic supporters.Suppose it all depends on what mood PL is in.

    Can’t better that.”

If you need more evidence check back this afternoon before P67 stated what had gone on, and before Canimalar found the lost email in his spam folder.

He apolised about being banned. Not disingenuous from my point of view. Just more evidence.

How could anyone possibly have access to the minutes of any Board meeting??

    That`s exactly the point.

Your reply spells out circular arguments. Been here before.

I answered everyone one of your points, and didn’t mention that you hadn’t paid my prior post the same respect.

I let you control the agenda.

    You have bullied me. :)))

    Nah, am JOKING !!!!!!!!!!!!!

But I find your reply very disappointing as you cherry picked what I said to make your own reply as easy as possible.

Sign of a debater, but one who rarely wins debates.

Those reading will form their own opinions, and I take faith in the fact that those putting forward your argument, while being the most vocal and aggressive (yourself excluded) are in fact creating a bond of unity amongst the Celtic Support to force the SFA into a position where they are AT LAST answerable for their corruption.

Despite your obnoxious reference to mental illness, I’ll say there is nothing wrong with shareholders exercising their rights. In fact I think it is vital.

I have a problem with resolution 12 because I think it is aimed at our board rather than those who are responsible for the problem. I think if I have been screwed then it is for me to fix. It seems to me that resolution 12 is about saying to our board – “I’ve been wronged; you must sort it for me”

I also have doubts about the legitimacy of referring to an organisation that didn’t exist when the problem arose.

I’m disappointed that you think I was agressive. I can’t see it myself, but that is always the case.

Can you point me to where I was?

  10. Michael @ 02:39

I’m really starting to get my heckles up. This worries me.

There’s a clear movement from those who have offered mental blind support for the board turning this issue into an attack on the Celtic Board, when it is the best opportunity to ask questions legally of the SFA.

To be fair, it’s a good move from your angle.

It makes me resolved to take the chance that I know my Grandad would have done in protecting the interests of Celtic against the blatant corruption of the SFA.

And I’m comfortable in the knowledge that the majority reading feel the same way.

Hope this gets to you before my last jibe. Unwarranted.

  13. Obnoxious? Mental illness? I made no reference to any ailment sir… It was a humorous reference to a song that relates to our heritage, that has, even by the PLC, been deemed legitimate in the Great Songs Debate.

A topic that has not only been of great debate on here for many years, but one which is the cause of much humour…. Allegedly. Well it used to.

Your insinuation that I was being evil, objectionable, or even libelous suggests you are a tad sensitive.

I am pleased you consider the rights of shareholders vital. I consider it legitimate. You say you think it is aimed at our board. Well what you think is vital, and what you think it is aimed at the Board is incongruous.

The Board has a legal responsibility. Period. Romantic notions, support and money aside. That is the law.

The law is the law. Emotions and personal opinions do not come into it.

  14. Is it a recognised meeja manipulation trick, to identify with a group of folk who feel discriminated against, by posting on their blogs and crying out “Bullies, bullies, poor me”, and then once settled in using your ingraciated position to win support?

I don’t think you are guilty of that Michael, but there are some who are.

  15. Here’s a conspiracy theory for you, and Michael, you can quote me on this, but please ensure you use other contributors’ post than mine to back up your arguments.

It doesn’t take an expert psychiatrist to know that Celtic supporters support the under dog.

For some reason, some of the most intellectually deficient posters on this blog (Michael excluded) are using that tactic (their thickness) to undermine any movement going on here to make the SFA answer some important flamin questions, which we all know, they do not have the answers to.

Make of that what you will.

I think most of us want some answers from the SFA, and will support the resolution in any way we can.

Loved yer post from CELTICWIKI about the huns past misdemeanours.

I’ve got a certain hun mate who swears he has been to St James’ Park twice, and was on the pitch both times.

Once for a Bruce Springsteen concert, and the other time in The Fairs Cities game. That he still finds it funny speaks volumes. It also means that my re-education programme has some way to go with him!

Red Sox can win the World Series at home by beating the Cardinals either on Wednesday night or failing that All Hallow Eve.

If you believe that Scottish Football fans and investors have not been wronged, your position is reasonable. If you believe that Scottish football fans and investors have been wronged, your position is untenable.

The only recourse is to hold to account the PLC who have allowed this situation to mushroom into a farce. It is not democracy. It is capitalism. Might be called guerrilla capitalism/ democracy by some…. But personally I applaud the devotion and tenacity of those who picked up the baton. Lethargic they are most certainly not. It is the only legal route (if you believe what I do). It is not personal, it’s just business, because that is the paradigm we all have to exist and operate within. A business paradigm…. Not a sporting paradigm.

This is the purpose of Resolution 12/ Revolution 9.

Or do you object to that fundamental fact?

  21. If reports are correct then the Celtic board questioned the granting of the 2011 licence to the now defunct Govan side with both the Scottish and European football authorities.

So why would this resolution be an attack on the board?

It is providing the board with a reason to further probe the licence grant.

I am sure that the Canamalar resolution has been strengthened through the expertise of other CQN contributors such as Auldheid and BRTH with their deep knowledge of the SFA rules and EUFA guidelines.

So like any good executive, Canamalar has taken on board input from experts in their fields.

Sounds like a strength to me rather than a weakness or a poor intellect.

By the way, I’ll say it yet again. I am behind the resolution, but that does not stop me being disgusted at the aggression shown towards people who are either against it or are apathetic towards it.

You are the master at avoiding answering questions. You’d make a great politician.

  24. GCT @ 03:30,

No YOU are the master at avoiding answering questions! YOU’D make a great politician.

I’ve only seen agression and lack of intellect coming from one particular group of folk amigo, and it’s a peculiar group who dominated the summer here and killed debate.

Canamlar and Awe Naw are good debators.

If someone is scared to debate with them, then they need to look at the points they’re trying to defend.
