Celtic poisoning Scottish football

I looked into the world of Scottish football betting yesterday.  Betting on Celtic to win the Scottish Premiership is less rewarding than putting your money in an interest bearing account, which, I suspect, is an approximation of what bookmakers will do with any such bets.  In short, our league is not so much a sport as a secure investment.

Betting gets really interesting if you meander onto what is referred to as the Without Celtic market, or who will win the league if Celtic are taken out of the equation.  Favourites are Aberdeen, closely followed by Motherwell and then Dundee United and Hibs (hmm….).

Can you imagine what a league title like this would do for these clubs?  Aberdeen, Motherwell and United actually vying to become champions?

Some hold a notion that Celtic are the great benefactors of Scottish football, which is dependent on you and me for the occasional home game and TV money.  This is rubbish.  Celtic inhibits Scottish football more than we can imagine.  We are a competitive poison making it impossible for historically significant football teams to thrive.

Keeping a clean sheet away from home is an achievement for any team.  Doing so twice, in Europe, and winning both games, is outstanding for St Johnstone.  Well done.  I can only imagine their absence from the top of the Without Celtic betting chart is a result of bookmakers anticipating their run to the Europa League final in Turin will hinder their league challenge.

I have to express my sheer delight at yesterday’s pronouncement by the chief executive of Rangers International FC PLC, Craig Mather.  We can be confident of this guy’s credentials and that he is worthy of following in the footsteps of Charles Green, Tommy Cooper and other comedic greats.

Mather issued a statement on the club’s web site noting punishments handed out to Hearts and Dunfermline for entering administration were different from the punishment handed out to Rangers International’s predecessor club (the player registrations and current penalties Newco Rangers were allowed to inherit) – for a completely different series of offences.

Those penalties were imposed for a variety of misdemeanours, including failure to declare the club appointed a director who had been struck off, failure to comply with stock market rules and multiple counts of bringing the game into disrepute.  The SFA disciplinary panel responsible for the penalties found that “only match fixing in its various forms might be a more serious breach”.

Would you not feel a wee bit embarrassed by this?  Mr Mather asks for clarification but I suggest we don’t trouble him by directing him to the aforementioned SFA panel’s ruling.  Better that he operates in the version of reality he is most comfortable with, and that he keeps his followers away from looking into the real issues……..

To that effect, our thanks to all the media outlets who unquestioningly reported the Mather comments without hint of irony, apart from those pesky online types at STV, who had the temerity to address the question.  Cease and desist immediately.

Flag Day tomorrow, another historic moment in Celtic history.  Get in early, or late afternoon, as it happens.  Hoping to see some of our new guys make their claim for a start in Sweden.

    Have to say, agree with some fholk who pointed it out yesterday morn, some awful feckin moaning going on.

     

     

    Irony for me was when reading it for the 24 hours after we won a game which was a hun game all re-written in terms of what we were up against, some of the moaning was coming from the same ones defending the board last week, and attacking those who had dared to do so, while being unable to control their disgust at GB the week before, or Lenny and the team this week.

     

     

    Does not compute Master Luke, does not compute.

     

     

    Feckin strange attitude for a Celtic Supporter imo, but hey ho.

    I Wonder how FEARED Celtic will be across Europe this season?

     

     

    We are a Club that is Destined to Win the Big Ears again, there is no doubt we will do that. I hope it is from Scotland, it won’t have the same impact if it comes from when we do it elsewhere.

    It’s good that there are efforts being made from Celtic Supporters to keep the message out there that we need a bigger stage. We’re being strangled by the necessity of Sky, Scottish football, and English football, to ensure we are always joined at the hip by the hangers on.

     

     

    The only way we can appeal here is by reminding the powers that be of our financial potential, which is ironically against our whole way of thinking (supporters that is).

     

     

    So the Celtic Board are working behind the scenes, or at the very least, trying to keep our options open, to enable us to fulfill our potential as a football club, and on occasion, over-achieve.

     

     

    Full marks to that and all support it.

     

     

    But is it worth sitting back and watching any of our support be criminalised, on absurd charges that are throwm out if any of the accused are in a position to defend themselves? (Am I not right in thinking, every defence launched, has resulted in the charges being thrown out, with questions levelled at the rozzers and their integrity??)

     

     

    Should this not be an important part of the CFC Board’s strategy moving forward to larger leagues in the future, to ensure that petty attempts at criminalisation of OUR and THEIR support are knocked on the head?

     

     

    Or do they equate us with other clubs, and believe what the MSM say, that we need cleansed…sanitised as Canamalar has described it?

     

     

    They expect us to lavish praise at them for a 20% reduction in ST prices? I’d rather they kept that, and used the cash to defend the young Celtic Supporters, innocent youths!, who are being criminalised and hence targeted for the future of every year of their Celtic supporting lives.

     

     

    It stinks.

     

     

    And what annoys me now, is that certain posters here talked a lot of shite about the GB who had NO involvement in the recent scandals other than speculation, slated them as political whatevers in words that the rozzers would have been proud of, then proceeded to attack anyone who questioned the Board’s position after the transfer issues last week, and then, hun feckin believably, spent the next 24 hours after Wednesday’s win, creating an atmosphere of doom and gloom about how it was all Tony Stokes and Neil Lennon’s fault.

    My main focus isn’t on glaring at one player until he makes a mistake that I can use to justify my inane moans about him, or about the temperature of my feckin prawn sandwiches in the lounge where I paid 40% more than those beneath me, without considering the fact, that where I’m proudly eating my feckin prawn sandwich, could actually be a standing area, or cheaper seating area, to increase attendance and future support, …

     

     

    My FOCUS is on the Celtic Support, and every time I feel the temptation to buy a ticket for a CL game, or an EL game, which is apparently beneath us, I’ll be donating to a group of Celtic Supporters that actually need our help.

    Was one button away from booking ticket online Tuesday night for a seat in 404, and then thought, nah, going by CQN, it’ll be full of feckin whingein brats that don’t get what Stokes brings to a game, don’t get what Lenny does etc etc.

     

     

    CQN is actually a good gauge of the MSM these days. Same inane points, just a different way of getting there.

     

     

    It’s been horrendous since we started the pre-season.

     

     

    Am going to move south and get a Season Card for Celtic Nation :)))

    We’ve been doing excellent given the circumstances. How anyone can fault the team and management yet defend the board baffles me completely.

     

     

    Very odd.

     

     

    Anyhoos, I gave my copy of TLGF away 3 years ago, and haven’t seen it since. I then ordered a copy, and when I found out he hadn’t seen it, loaned it to a good friend still unwrapped.

     

     

    That was 2 years ago. He’s still claiming he hasn’t seen it yet :)))

     

     

    One of the above was definitely a collectors’ edition.
