Celtic, St Johnstone and flash-in-the-pan winners

274

St Johnstone could cement their position as Scotland’s second most successful team over the last decade.  Not that they found it easy, they were pushed all the way to a penalty kick win last night to secure their place in the Scottish Cup semi-finals.

While Celtic have won 19 major trophies in the last decade, Saints are the second most successful club in the country with two wins.  St Mirren or Kilmarnock, who play their quarterfinal tonight, could join them on two wins if they take the cup, as would Hibs, if they followed their 2016 success with a win this season, although Hibs tradition is to leave a respectful 114-year gap between Scottish Cup wins.

Apart from Celtic and St Johnstone there have been eight other flash-in-the -pan winners, seven of whom are solvent, not dependent on regular cash calls or in breach of Uefa Financial Fair Play regulations.  I know it’s been a hard year but solvency always has the final say.

What a class act. Has the press eating from his hand.

This is exactly what we need to replicate once more.

The Celtic suit must not shrink to suit inferior managers.

    HH to all.

  2. Good morning cqn from an overcast, dry and rather mild Garngad.

So someone inside ipox and either on the pitch side or on the pitch shouts Racism comment during St Jo game, lets see the smsm furore that ensues after we had Kamara gate and quite rightly so. But I wont hold my breathe.

Well done St Mirren in beating Kilmasonic a club I cannot stand just in behind Sevco and Hertz in my book.

Into another week no Stock exchange notice, in fact, complete silence, anyway lets all laugh at the team who got knocked out of the cup BUT, who had dismissed our team in the previous round ? Old firm logic

  4. The big 5 leagues and the top clubs always want more money ! Wages expenses always increasing

Forecast: ‘Big Five’ divisions facing losses of €4.4 billion for 20/21 reveals why top clubs are in desperate search for cash

Using a sample of ten half-year reports Off The Pitch provides an unprecedented analysis into the effects of Covid-19 exclusively on the current season.

While the €4.4 billion negative EBIT result is the likeliest scenario it could get much worse assuming just a slight alteration.

The losses show exactly why some of the biggest clubs have been exploring the idea of a Super League in the search for new revenue streams.

Wage-cuts and deferrals have seemingly been phased out, meaning salaries are driving a large part of the deficit.

Despite the widespread losses, strategy consultancy says investors are confident of football’s long-term growth potential as evidenced over the past 12-18 months.

  8. Leicester tighten their grip on the CL places; Milan slip out of Serie A top four.

There’s a very real prospect of Liverpool, Tottenham, Arsenal, Milan/Juventus and maybe even Chelsea missing out on CL spots.

That’s four or five from the “Big 12”. Their motivation for a breakaway in a nutshell.

    FAB Footage.

Celtic arrived home to Celtic Park with the Big Cup on the Friday, the Day after winning in Lisbon…( IF Memory serves me correctly ?)

I was NOT there sadly…. as my Da was on his way home from Lisbon with his Mates who Drove to Lisbon and back in two Cars.

My Da was the main man for taking me to Celtic games, as was his only brother on occasions, but for some reason my Uncle ( Robert R.I.P) didnt take me to the Homecoming….Im not sure if he was there or not ?

i KNOW my Das brother wasnt in Lisbon, cos as an 11 year old kid…I watched the Lisbon Final in his hoose in Dennistoun, nd when Bertie Auld Hit the Bar in the 1st half…Uncle Roberts Can of McEwans Export HIT his living room ceiling, as we thought Celtic had scored !

    LOL

  11. I had my 2nd Vaccine Jab last evening.

For once I had my ” Sensible” Heid on as I got a taxi straight there ( The Hydro) for the Jab…and then a taxi straight home again.

I wasnt tempted to try and find a Beer Garden because of the Jab..so home to watch Killie and St Mirren.

Magic…NO Cup Final for Killie Hun Mr Lafferty LOL.

The TV was constantly on him sitting in the Stand wearing a Black Baseball Cap..with the word ( In White)….” ICON” on the front of the Cap.

So he sees himself as some kind of ” ICON”…Hes having a Giraffe !

So Embarassing…but Huns NEVER get embarsassed…do they ?

  12. Possible Vaccine Passport scenario ?

I myself wont have a problem IF we are issued with Vaccine Passports to get served in Pubs etc…BUT……

I KNOW of One person who works behind a Bar…who has maintained that they will NOT agree to any Vaccine Offer. This was just before the 2nd Lock Down kicked in last October.

I THINK I MAY be a little Pissed Off IF any Bar Person who had REFUSED to have the Vaccine ( Thats their choice), who would then ASK ME to produce a Vaccine Passport to show them…so that I may get served in a Pub.

Folk who REFUSE to get the Vaccine have NO RIGHT to ask Me or anyone else for Proof of being Vaccinated…In my opinion of course ! IF I was to face such a Scenario with a Bar Person or shop worker etc…I would be asking THEM to show me their Vaccine Passport at the same time ?

Right, thats me had my Moan for Today.

I can still remember my father ‘making’ me sit and watch the game (I was more interested in playing with a miniature toy car). Oh, how I prayed as my despairing father repeatedly rose to his feet to celebrate a goal, only to sit back down as they had not scored. Well, as we all know, my prayers worked. I can still see him dancing for joy – Ronnie wasn’t the only person shedding tears of pride.

I am praying now for my poor dad RIP.

    ………..

I feel fine mate after my 2nd Jab.

What is bad for me is that I had to ask for a Wheelchair and Pusher ( NO….Not that kind of Pusher..LOL)…to take me from the Hydro Entrance to get the Jab, and then back out again to the taxi Rank outside, because I just cant walk too far these days.

One Bright note…My wheelchair Pusher was a Gorgeous wee ” Nurse ?” named…” RACHEL”….She wore a Mask throughout, but I could tell she was Gorgeous by her Eyes and Figure…very sexy young Lady. I gave her one of my Worst Chat up Lines and she enjoyed it and was laughing out loud.
