Celtic, St Johnstone and flash-in-the-pan winners

274

St Johnstone could cement their position as Scotland’s second most successful team over the last decade.  Not that they found it easy, they were pushed all the way to a penalty kick win last night to secure their place in the Scottish Cup semi-finals.

While Celtic have won 19 major trophies in the last decade, Saints are the second most successful club in the country with two wins.  St Mirren or Kilmarnock, who play their quarterfinal tonight, could join them on two wins if they take the cup, as would Hibs, if they followed their 2016 success with a win this season, although Hibs tradition is to leave a respectful 114-year gap between Scottish Cup wins.

Apart from Celtic and St Johnstone there have been eight other flash-in-the -pan winners, seven of whom are solvent, not dependent on regular cash calls or in breach of Uefa Financial Fair Play regulations.  I know it’s been a hard year but solvency always has the final say.

£31 million in shares at the Govan Laundry this year?

    ‐—————————

If these are indeed correct figures, it shows that nothing much has changed at Ibrox since the EBT/TAX days.

The raison d’être has always been to win at ANY cost & under ANY circumstances.

We don’t suscribe to this methodology and, as far as I know, have no ‘well-heeled’ fans/directors queuing up to pour millions into the club.

There were heavy costs & consequences on the back of their EBT/TAX adventure – will the same fate lie in wait now? Will a failure to reach the CL groups in July/August bring about another collapse similar to McCoist’s failure to beat Malmo, or, will confetti continue to be thrown?

As much as enjoyed last night’s entertainment it does nothing to take away our own deficiencies

The best 2 highlights of our season are the 93rd minute at Love Street and a cavalier goalkeeper

If our only success is our enemies failure we have a long way to go

For clarity I enjoyed it – but it’s little comfort

Noticed “My Octopus Teacher” won the Oscar last night. Many Thanks for recommending. Truly wonderful film.

As to last night, highly delighted and really enjoying the gloating this morning- and that’s nothing to do with recognising the current financially doped entity being the same as the previous one. I can still take great delight in the zombified replacement getting gubbed. Gubbed by penalties just makes it even sweeter.

    Stay Safe, Celts.

  4. As long as Sevco have folk that want to pump money into shares dilutions they are not doing amything wrong or illegal.

They don’t have a lending facility so the companies/people that are taking a punt are doing so in the hope of a return .

Why would anyone buy shares in any business when the price is made up.

    ——————-

    Why indeed?

My best guess is that they believe now that they are only two obstacles to overcome in their quest to be back among the “elite’.

    – 1) negotiate CL qualifying & get into the groups next season.

    – 2) win the title next season with automatic CL group qualification.

That is a reasonable proposition – that’s what’s driving them on. King’s “pack of cards” is proving uncannily true up to a point – will we fold, or, can we put a stop to it.

It worries me that if we cannot mount a decent challenge for a history-breaking 10iar, can we be confident in winning the title back next season?

  6. Jhb 1.31.

    they are true.

only similarity is that no rules were broken as no rules existed with ebts etc .the same as now as ffp rules are not in place at oorCampbells old workplace.

Their ‘reason detre ‘is they cannot function honestly and openly as a business.

    same as with minty

(big geordie has to have his cut)

a fine example is the pride of the union in scotland!

£80m on top of what they’ve earned from the Europa league from the last two seasons, with all the associated costs, the possible lack of ticket sales from the pandemic and the possibility that they’ll have to share some of it with us? They’ll do well to clear an extra £10m per season, which doesn’t cover their annual losses.

The way cL distributions are calculated now means they’ll be well short of our best seasons.

If they’re serious about running at break even they’re going to have to cut costs or make a decent profit from player trading. Probably both

  8. “King’s “pack of cards” is proving uncannily true up to a point – will we fold, or, can we put a stop to it.”

How will we fold? We’ve made a profit in every year we’ve been in the Europa league recently. We even made a profit last year when covid started affecting everyone. We’re in better shape to weather this than just about anyone – we can absorb losses, we have credit to see us through cash shortfalls, and we have a billionaire shareholder who will most definitely not see us “fold”

Let’s wait and see who’s closest to folding once we’re back to “normal” before we start talking about King being right.

Usually my Local is too busy and noisy on Saturday and Sundays cos of ” Live Music” and Singers etc…but I do NOT know what plans or restrictions there might be in place by the Scot Gov and/or Pubs, about ” Live Music” etc INSIDE Pubs come May 17th…dont forget, for a while Music and even TV’s were Banned for a while although Pub was open and we could drink inside before October.

IF ” LIVE” Music is allowed from the off ( although I doubt it ?), my local is usually VERY busy on a Monday also…due to all the auld singers etc ?

In any case, a Thursday or a Friday AFTERNOON would be the most ideal…depending on what day suits you best….as I said…Im easy.

  12. Player sales won’t offer sevco significant financial solace imho

    Star players?

Goalkeeper – loathsome human being, brilliant player, but too old to secure a fee of note

Tavernier – tidy, but mid/upper championship level

Morelos – panto villain, average striker. See Tavernier for level

Kent – pace and skill and can penetrate a defence with a run or pass. Top of Championship/ lower EPL standard.

Patterson – looks to have real potential. Could be their KT

So…….all the more reason that CL monies take on an existential significance to them. (That’s also how we should view them btw)

As for Nostradamus King’s prediction about the ease and swiftness of Celtic’s downfall. Did he mention in the small print whether or not the rangers would survive the process, or be consumed, requiring Sevco2?

The first Vaccine was in the SECC…Tonight I am ” Appearing” at The Hydro for the 2nd Jab so my taxi is Booked to get me there, but because I dont know how long I will be inside The Hydro…I cant ask my taxi to wait…so I will need to get a Taxi outside the Hydro…shouldnt be any problem….as I can NOT walk too far these days……Im an auld unfit Geezer !

  21. Beyond the bombardment of marketing emails from the PLC, I do have to say that the Celtic website itself is vastly improved.

If your bored and looking for a wee read the legends page is good.

Have a gander at Peerless Patsy one, born in a Donegal poorhouse and goes on to play over 400 games, and scores a near 200 goals.
