Celtic, St Johnstone and flash-in-the-pan winners

274

St Johnstone could cement their position as Scotland’s second most successful team over the last decade.  Not that they found it easy, they were pushed all the way to a penalty kick win last night to secure their place in the Scottish Cup semi-finals.

While Celtic have won 19 major trophies in the last decade, Saints are the second most successful club in the country with two wins.  St Mirren or Kilmarnock, who play their quarterfinal tonight, could join them on two wins if they take the cup, as would Hibs, if they followed their 2016 success with a win this season, although Hibs tradition is to leave a respectful 114-year gap between Scottish Cup wins.

Apart from Celtic and St Johnstone there have been eight other flash-in-the -pan winners, seven of whom are solvent, not dependent on regular cash calls or in breach of Uefa Financial Fair Play regulations.  I know it’s been a hard year but solvency always has the final say.

    JHB – thank you.

    Interesting.

“If the debt-free company was valued similar to Celtic at £100m, and why shouldn’t it be”.

Respectfully? – Sevco’s pathway to debt-free status is, (being extremely kind), unclear.

Even if they achieved that – “why shouldn’t it be” (similar value to Celtic)

Off the top of my head …

    – smaller club

    – smaller support base

    – not listed on an exchange

    – lack of financial transparency

    – no profit history

    – lower value fixed assets

    ??

    Hail hail

  2. The market will determine the value, not past behaviour, nor, previous losses.

what market are you talking of here?

new club are not in any

access to finance is in confetti market and looks as tho its covering salaries.

Since the new club came into be it has not made a profit,at all.cumulative losses at £80m

since Rosemarys wean came into being in 2012

if you could source your figures please? link

please/page in a/c it may demistify your suggestions

Remember a market is based on info, coldly.

that scrutiny the new club could not handle before, hence the monthly(wage)confetti issue.

They won’t gamble. This year was the closest to doing that and look what’s happened.

Of course not to gamble is arguably the bigger gamble!

With it being Jimmy McGrory’s birth date today, it may be a consideration for East End Tims thinking of doing a Walk On for the Foundation in June, but without a destination in mind, to head along London Rd to St Peter’s cemetery to acknowledge his gift to us.

One of the easier lairs to find, through the main gate with a high road and a low road stick to the high road taking the first main path left close to the stairway going the other direction. In the front quartile, his Celtic Cross memorial is near the path facing away as you approach it.

The Graves Society should do a topographical line drawing for the 30 Celts there.

  6. Many thanks the other day for all your best wishes, I probably should have phrased it a bit better, it was for the Mrs, you arny gonna get rid of me that easy, as it is she is going for an Op really early doors in the morning so thanks again.

How quickly things change – imagine we are sitting at the start of the season knowing we are out of the qualifiers and ‘they’ are in the groups.

This season was big because we all wanted 10iar – next season will be bigger for our prospects for the next few years.

There needs to be a strong response from us – Manager? DoF?, transfers out, who & how much?, transfers in, who & how much?

Surely any manager and DoF with some kind of reputation will expect a decent kitty – how will we put that kitty together?

Keeping the squad intact and giving Neil Lennon £20m was a positive statement at the beginning of this season – we are in a different place now – what will we do?

Yes, real sense of togetherness. Someone posted a link to the 1969 Scottish Cup Final. I watched the entire first half. It was brilliant to see how the team raced to the defence of their fellow players when they were on the end of a bad tackle, and there were a few. One particular incident at the 15 minute mark stands out.

BTW how good was George Connolly?

  16. Watching the Killie,Saints game.Still have never see a good game on that surface. All credit to both teams, not for the want of trying, just the surface was never made for football.

    2-1 Killie,HT.
