No doubt Craig Gordon would’nt be too complimentary about me:)

    But….i can live with it.

  2. TD67,

Don’t mind him, they are on the wind up and trying to troll.

It’s probably a coincidence but Celtic won last night and they have been on overtime since Monday when WC provided us with an update on L5.

Luckily for me the only Huns I come into contact with are on here:)

Good post – agree there is opTIMism now around – we’re far from the finished article, however I think we are now on the right road.

  6. funny atmosphere last night!

    very quiet and nervous.

I didn’t feel we got behind the team enough early on when we were dominant. then too many idiots about me giving disproportionate abuse when things started to slacken off.

I felt we were pretty secure and was surprised when they scored. I would not have brought Toure on at that time because I didn’t think we needed to change however I’m not blaming the goal on that. I also kept repeating “this has got disaster written all over it” when dembele claimed the ball at the penalty and the bhoy proved me wrong. He has better nerve than me.

Very happy to be through and I’ll be at all the games in Europe up to Christmas, and hopefully beyond, no matter what flavour of cup – but really hope it’s CL.

    hail hail.

  7. So is the draw tomorrow at the usual time? 12:00 CET/11:00 UK time?

If you are Celtic (which we are), we’d probably hope for Dundalk. If you were Dundalk, you’d probably hope for Viktoria Plzen (despite their impressive coefficient).

Whoever we get, I’m looking foward to it.

Notice the hunposters are all terribly correct in their language.

Trying very hard not to stick out like a sore thumb.

    It wont work.

You see….they like to think they are clever, but in reality, its like a two year old trying to butt in when the adults are speaking:)

    You are not fooling anybody.

Are you back from holidays again?

Sorry I can’t hang around I have a party of American tourists to show around and teach them some Irish History.

    Till Later.

A few scattered thoughts from last night.

    Delighted to be throug h.

    Rookie Romania n ref. MOM

    Dissapointed with the performance

1st half we managed one shot on target.

The mental fragility is still there. Kolo Toure’s lntroduction was all it needed. BR will now be more aware of this.

Partner Toure with O Connel and give him a KT deal.

At corners we are still crap.

We move up a notch now and need to improve especially within the final third.

Roberts needs someone futher up the pitch that he is prepared to pass too. He is not at the club yet.

I seen the Dundalk game. Prefer to avoid them.

See you guys in the next round.

  11. Great result last night. That was all that mattered.

    Performances will hopefully come.

Onto Fridays draw, how is there only 5 possibilities for us? Explain please.

  12. I think some of our support need to be educated in playing European football, some of the criticism at times was ridiculous. We were a goal up,they had to come out to get a goal. The players need to wisen up too,we were 1 up and we got a corner at the start of the second half,McGregor runs over and takes it asap. O’Connell will come on a ton alongside Kolo, agree with comments re Armstrong, started well but disappeared when he was moved.Probably a silly question but,why was LG on penalties ? He missed enough last season……..great penalty from Dembele,i think he will be a star for us.

    5 seeded, 5 unseeded?

  15. Phyllis Dietrichson on

Geordie – we are in the Champions half of the draw, so we avoid teams like Man City or Roma who finished 3rd/4th in their “bigger leagues”. In our part of the draw there are 5 seeded teams and 5 non-seeded. We are one of the seeded teams and the 5 non-seeded are the teams you refer to.

  16. Tony,

I get that bit but there was 15 ties last night. I couldn’t figure out where young boys and Monaco (who played last night) came into it.

Then I remembered they were non champions who came in a around after us.

And now I’ve read cv’s link and confirmed it.

    Cheers

  17. Big Georges Fan Club - Hail, Hail, Wee Oscar on

I bet Jimmy Forrest regrets being black – that’s the only reason he gets a hard time – when all they racists call him a coward, we know what they really mean…

And that Stuart Armstrong – if he was a white man no-one would be going on about his poor passing and weak tackles…

As for that Ronny Delia – it was them racists that chased him out the club last year…

  18. Last night was a good result, only 2 games and we could be in the CL group stages.

We need another couple of quality signings, we have a raft of midfieldefs, but can’t find the right combination, some will have to go to make room for fresh ideas and partnerships to be formed. BR has done well with the players he was left with, he has been hampered by injuries but got us to this point. He needs backed now in the transfer market, over to you PL DD.

  19. Cheers phyllis,

  21. The biggest difference this season is Brendan Rodgers. It’s very early, I know, but the number of times he has already made important, telling changes in games is a very positive difference from last season. He used the subs last night to change things for the better – we lost the goal quite soon after Kolo came on but it was the result of a combination of factors (Craig Gordon could have done better, Broonie could have reacted quicker, the scorer took the chance excellently), and going to a back four with Lustig right back pushed Janko up wide on the right to put pressure on their left side (where the penalty eventually came from).

Also, I liked it when we kept THREE up when they had a corner in the first half – to see them having to readjust from their planned corner tactics showed that we have a manager who thinks about the game and who is willing to try these changes out in a game.

Next thing to work on is the throw-ins – we must lose possession about 50% of the times we have a shy!

  22. Was just having a look at the names in the Hapoel team , there is a Brown who plays up front and a defender called Bitton , a relation of Nir? Maybe just a common name.

  23. I must admit I couldn’t stand that black player sevco signed from hertz.

Played in the middle. Thought himself a bit of a hard man.

They can do it when they put their mind to it unfortunately they feel the need to redress the balance the next time they’re on .

The Clumpany pulled him up yesterday .

Got to agree on the shy thing! How do we manage to make them look so difficult?

I thought it was cracking atmosphere. Things only got quiet when Astana equalised which was understandable given the magnitude of this game, but the North Curve soon cranked it up again, helping to push us over the line. If anyone thought there was something lacking last night, I wonder what they thought of some games last season before 25k bored fans. There will not have been a better atmosphere anywhere in Europe last night.

There was one in the first half just inside the Astana half, not sure who took it but basically threw it down the line to Paddy Roberts with 2 men on him and no room to manouevre – he was skilful enough to kill the ball and win another throw in but ffs!

Although if we’re moaning about throw ins I’ll take that.

Still think we need to improve a lot in the final third, Armstrong and McGregor are squad men at best.

  30. Let’s all be opTIMistic

OPT to come to Celtic Park this season.

OPT to back the team no matter what.

    OPT to accentuate the positives.

    OPT to eliminate the negatives.

DD, PL and the board are Celtic supporters – they are on our side – they are not “Mr Inbetweens”

  31. Marrakesh Express on

I’ve heard many calling for a clear out weeks ago and we are all aware of the prime candidates. BR has been smart and taken his time to assess players he’d have known very little about. One of those players is O’Connell, who for me now looks very close to being a fixture in the team. He’d have been one baby thrown out with the bathwater if some had their wish.
