Of the backing from the large Celtic home crowd, Rodgers said: “They were unbelievable for us but I think they need to show a little bit of patience as well.
“I’m a Celtic supporter, I know what they want, I know how desperate they want it but they put the players on edge at times.
“Teams are organised so if you can’t play forward and you can’t play sideways, you’ve got to come back but when you come back, we shouldn’t be on edge because we come back. We have to circulate the ball.
“Hopefully, going forward, instead of having that edginess, trust the players, trust their game model and how we work and, like we see tonight, eventually we can get there.”
—
I think he’s right. I thought for the first half and till their goal our ball retention was good and sideways and back-passing eventually led to penetrating moves for us. Whilst when we lost the ball it was seldom in an immediately dangerous position.
I recall only one dangerous error passing amongst the back 4. That’s an improvement.

Dembele, as rogers said, is playing catch up! don’t underestimate getting a proper pre season in before the matches come thick and fast for sharpness . The lad showed character for a 19/20 yr old
Dundalk would be a good trip with some great craic but as someone said last night better to meet them in the group stages, Hapoel Beaver Shaver will do for me.

Great result tonight. So close now. BR delivered in circumstances Ronny would have failed in. Atmosphere was great, with the Green Brigade brilliant again. I was down by the Astana fans (all 58, I counted) and they were great too.
Great contributions from Tierney (this boy is an all round star), Griffiths and Toure after he came on. I thought both O’Connell and Janko had good games, coping very well with the pressure for inexperienced lads. Brown ran the middle of the park and Johansen did fine when he came on. A big thank you to Dembele and his balls of steel. What a start to your Celtic career son. Can’t believe the papers had the brass neck to pressure you before tonight. That’ll shut the Hun bar stewards up.
Lustig was solid and Craig G had nothing much to do but kick it. He was unlucky with the header falling straight to their player, but was hopeless at their disallowed goal. He needs to work in crosses, but still a very going keeper.
Was sorry to see Roberts get injured. They were clearly terrified of him and he ripped the, apart with one run early in. Hope he’s not out for long, but if it’s a hammy it might be 6 weeks.
I like McGregor, he’s skilful, but a bit lightweight at times. Forrest remains an enigma and was frustrating again tonight. Armstrong needs to improve. I admired his desire to get on the ball, especially after Roberts went off, but his concentration and determination in a tackle were missing at times.
Still, a great win against difficult opponents this early in the season is great. The ground was rocking and we just need a kind draw and we’ll be there. Toure gave us steel and I think we need that. We need another couple in too, and a few more out, even if only on loan.
Be very hot down there in August Be’er Sheeva is in the Negev desert:)))
I’ll take the cooler climes of Dundalk:.)))

When’s the signing deadline for next round?
We need a midfielder who can pass the ball and dictate play, Sinclair, if that’s the manager’s number one target (as it appears to be) and a keeper as back up/competition for Gordon. Minimum.
Yes we need to get about a dozen out but we can’t wait until this happens before signings come in.

Aye, Maybe so. Always keen to irk under the skin of a unsubstantiated racist. Keep yer chin up.
I’m quite sure our players and management team will be celebrating, and hardly bothered about the next round as of yet.
I suggest everyone else adopts the same attitude.
Astana were no mugs, given their CL performances last season. A little graft and application tonight paid off, the main ingredient that was missing when we went out last year.
One, or two signings in before the next round commences and we are in with a right good chance.
Starry, I bow to your superior Geographic knowledge, yes definitely hot down South :-)
I reckon we’ll get Dundalk as it is a trip I would like to make but heading to Brunei next Tuesday. If we get through to the group stages almost guaranteed a German team as I have now left Germany :-(
