  1. Great night, Magic Celtic. Off to Bed.

    Hail Hail Bhoys.

    Big Moussa needed that. :)

“SFTB’s, gotta disagree a bit, just a bit, I think Ronny’s team may have lost tonight, can’t say would, but could. ”

I agree that RD’s team could have lost (and, in fact, did at this stage) but I also state that Brendan’s team could have lost tonight. We won with a 92nd minute penalty. Exxtra time and pens would have been a lottery. With our jitteriness, we might have gone out to an unlikely 2nd goal by Astana, even if we had scored our 2nd in overtime ( as opposed to injury time).

I am delighted with the outcome but I will not revise my assessment of performances just because the result went our way. We remain fragile but, hey, we got through, so let’s rejoice.

Not blaming Craig – just one of those things – he cleared it an it could just as easily have fallen to a Celtic player.

    ——————————

Let’s just thank God we won. If Gordon was the same colour as Efe many on here would be demanding he should never play for us again after that fcuk up of fcukups.

Enjoyed the game …thx for the help TET….it is entertainment of the highest order to get over the line …..winning is a by product..this is our time to watch the Celtic…

    “SFTB

Tonight’s sideways and backward passing was purposeful and helped us switch play.”

True, and so did some of last year’s. It is not a night and day concept of good recycling and bad recycling. Certainly, many in our crowd did not differentiate as they became nervy around the half hour mark when Paddy went off and were positively howling at it when Astana equalised.

There has been no revolution YET, and I emphasise YET. BR is a good coach not a miracle worker.

  6. Doc

Really. No. It’s CG’s fault. Macjay says so and because a few agree it is fact. He’s currently away writing it up in wiki for historical record.

I bet he missed the missed challenge in midfield. How about the fact thatCG cleared the baw with an on rushing opponent who’d have been left with a one on one and a likely hood of scoring. Yet Craig got to baw first, cleared it into midfield were a midfielder, I believe either Brown (who was great tonight) or Armstrong missed the challenge and was beaten to the ball by goal scorer who took touch before shooting.

All CG’s fault. But but but wiki man says…

have to say … I liked what I saw of Toure tonight … has a presence on the park …. I hadn’t seen much of him recently, so wasnt sure what he would be able to offer … but on tonight’s performance, I think he will be, not only a good influence on the younger players, but it looks like he can still play a bit .

and if he is there, and O’Connell keeps going as well as he has, we can move Erik and/or Ajer to the midfield … which is where I would like to see them

  8. Whatever we are paying BR it is not enough.

His job is not to heal the sick, now he must raise the dead.

We are currently an absolute dry husk of a functioning CL standard team.

Made up of two five a side teams with a common goalkeeper.

Not sure if the club, the expectation, the history is not too much for some players?

PR starts to struggle and then gets sub’ed — ML’s head drops and he starts to run with a limp.

Playing the first half with 10 men as CMcG evaporates in front of 55K.

SJ comes on and man marks the referee — stick to changing the nappies please.

    However we got through.

If we had lost — given the mood of the crowd — the main stand would have got torched.

  9. BR said he would like four more players and I hope he starts getting them in time for Dundalk?

The game was reduced as soon as Patrick Roberts went off injured, the only good thing to come from that was James Forrest did marginally better when defaulted to his natural flank, having suffered a career nose dive under Ronny Deila and his insistence on playing him on the left.

Celtic fans surprised when they get the penalty nod other teams enjoy with neutral referees, and no I’ve still no idea why BR played the tactical change of introducing Kolo Toure.

Mikel Lustig, Eoghan O’Connell, and Keiran Tierney did well at the back, Johanssen showed his experience but the side is at least four players from BR’s target, of moulding a team, that could scrape points in any Champions League group.

    Tom Rogic.

If only he were to sign

Don’t know what the problem is, he may yet sign. Let’s not speculate.

If he doesn’t want to be part of BR’s brave new world, there will be others who do.

    ============================================================================

I always reckon agents are more to blame than the player.

In Tom`s case , he is also being ” advised ” in Oz to move to a ” bigger club ” by the local lepers of the press.

However , after the patience and consideration we have shown him over his recurring injury problems , I think he should return the favour and show some gratitude and loyalty.

Admittedly , a rare commodity these days.

  12. Tierney and O’Connell played top stuff tonight. Am sure we have other wee nuggets from u 20’s like Nessbit for example. He is a gallus player who has a great future for us, if BR would give him the opportunity.

In hindsight i am inclined to agree. At first I thought it was only CG’s fault but I now think it was a combined f*ck up.

  14. JUDE2005 IS NEIL LENNON \O/ on 3RD AUGUST 2016 10:42 PM

Rogic, in possession, is probably our most skilful player apart from Roberts. But he’s slow and not suited to the pressing game BR wants us to play. He also can’t last 90 minutes. A good squad player to have but not a first pick (not that I think the other three should be automatic first choices either, we need quality in midfield instead of the quantity we currently have).

  15. Really hope we can just get the Sinclair deal over the line asap, also love to see us get a Neil Lennon type midfielder to sit and protect the centre halves.

    Midfield badly needs freshened up.

  16. Foxy, shite post.

    Shite shite post.

Gordon made an error, Efe made an error.

Not a single supporter will blame one over the other due to the colour of his skin.

If they due they are no part of the Celtic fanbase I recognise.

    Shite post.

Did I mention, that was a shite post.

  18. Another night of drama at Paradise delighted with the result & for the team & BR I think we gave Astana to much respect to be honest the 1st half in particular were we were to timid & should have went for the kill which would have killed the tie off as I don’t think they offered much, though the 2nd 45 they looked dangerous but never really threatened

Still why complain when we have youngsters playing tonight like EOC, KT, MD PR the futures looks definitely green & white

Celtic park looked superb & the fans were magnificent

  20. BSR @ this late hour

ML played well — you are having a laugh.

His display in the second half was shocking.

It was cowardice in a hooped jersey.

SJ — ran about the right channel trying to destroy space.

SaJ was hung out to dry when he moved into the midfield from RB.

Nobody moved for him and he kept getting ball facing our goal from a standing start.

  21. FOXY@10:34

Surely you would wish to withdraw that remark about colour – it is not worthy of you and/or this site – please think again.

  22. Well, finger nails gnawed to the bone but that’s Celtic for you. Thrilled that we are through to the next round and that European football is guaranteed until Christmas.

Well done to the team, fans and Brendan.

I hope we strengthen the squad now to make us competitive For the next round

Won’t make opening game on Sunday but just secured tickets for All-Ireland football quarter final on Saturday where the mighty Dubs continue their campaign for another Championship title.

  23. On nights when we should be joyous, a fair few find reason to find fault.

Why, Huns? Not all, I know this as I have met some, either Tims or actors on a good wage(not).

    So why the overt criticism?

Only one thing mattered tonight, and we achieved that.

    We won, and are through.

    Kolo looked classy

Crowd were great but I take on board Brendan’s comments about pressure on the players coming from the stands

    Best team won

Need more creativity , maybe Villa lad can help with that.

Once again great atmosphere especially the standing area… Wow!

  26. Anybody know who would be a good draw in next round? Don’t know much about any of them.

THE GREEN MAN SAYS SACK THE BOARD

I’m just back in from the game mate……….was sitting in 143 tonight. Too disorganised to buy my season ticket seat ! What a mistake cause I ended up sitting next to this Celtic fan, who for 90 minutes rubbished our players………slated them from start to finish. It was annoying, in itself but as the game flowed away from us, some others were agreeing and moaning at our players too.

“McGregor…..your hiding”; when Calum was injured “don’t get up McGregor your shite”.

Not a cheep of praise when McGregor created two chances in the first half.

“Brown you’re too deep”, “Brown your passing is shite”. Personally thought Brown had a great game, especially in the last 20 minutes or so. It’s great watching Scott regain his athleticism after the injury he played with for much of the final period of our fifth league title.

Celtic you haven’t got a f***ing clue”……..”and as the game was balanced at 0-0………..we need to f***ing score go forward”.

“Rogers you don’t know what you are doing”…….not a word of constructive criticism just abuse.

When Griffith’s scored he managed to clap. The only positive aspect of his support for Celtic. But after Leigh missed the two chances after half time, our striker was “fu***ng rubbish”.

Now you are right mate it’s all about opinions. My opinion is, some opinions are just plain warped, ignorant and counter-productive.
