Don’t have the time to look back but at one stage in the commentary here Brendan’s substitutions were being called into question.
All I know about the game is what I’ve read here.
My mechanic, or should I say. the guy who services my car, is a long time Celtic “supporter” – inverted comments because he hasn’t been to any game for 40 years or so; nevertheless watches constantly everything.
I don’t want to cause discord – but gies a reply to that statement please. I’m looking for it to be shot down by the way.

Last season we would have lost that! We would be the team thinking wtf? When they scored I admit it thought here we go again… But did we!!?! This IS a turning point in my mind. We have resilience again. I have missed that!

WITS, I talked to a Dundalk lad in the pub, he would be happy to draw Celtic, not confident, but not frightened.
He was at the game last night, came over for work today.
Gary67 on
Didn’t realise how big a unit Kolo is! Still has a bit of pace, and never stopped talking, shouting, encouraging. He was even doing it when warming up behind the goals before he came on.
“However, I think, just think, BR made changes RD may not have, therefore affected the flow, and outcome, of the game, for example, removing Armstrong for Toure, not a negative move, watch his play, he surged forward at the right time and this affected the game. ”
I cannot help but think that, if RD had subbed a not-yet-fit or integrated Toure on and changed a back 4 to a back 3, resulting in the loss of an immediate goal, he would be getting a much rougher ride than Brendan is getting.
In saying that, I don’t think the change caused the goal, I am just saying that RD would have got it in the neck. He never ever escaped the unjustified tag of a rookie manager from a diddy league.
Zbyszek- Thanks for the highlights and well done on Legia getting through too. I hope we avoid each other and both teams go through to CL stages
Spot on. But sush. Some want to escape goat Craig Gordon. Must be because Efe wasn’t playing for them to escape goat.

Please clarify which field the goat escaped from? And from where did Efe escape from?

Astana would have gotten past us if Ronny was here, i don’t doubt that. Rodgers is a proper Manager, you can see the wee things he does and attention to the detail in the tactics. He is getting more out of certain players and making substitutions that make a difference. If we can avoid Zagreb and Copenhagen feel very confident we will make it.

Dundalk would love Celtic
Its win win for them, they would believe they have a chance of going true ( certainly last season they would have) and even if Celtic knock them out, they would be guaranteed a full house at The Aviva
Its the best possible draw for Dundalk,….not sure if its the same for Celtic though

Another pleasing thing tonight was four of our home grown players in the starting 11. Some of them aren’t our most popular players but its a good sign , our young and not so young academy players ,
As secret affair sang, now is the time for action to get better players with european experience to help our young players develope even more.

Wouldn’t take anyone for granted, but given the preference it would be Dundalk and to avoid Zagreb and Copenhagen. The Israeli team I have no idea about, Ludogorets did well in recent seasons but lost four goals and had a player sent off (therefore suspended) in 3rd round so would go for them ahead of the other two.
Ron67, Kolo was first class. Brought calm and control to the team. Really pleased with him. Reminded me a bit of Roy Keane’s impact.

We’ve been working on set pieces by the looks of it. Defending corners with 3 up front, brilliant if you ask me. And if Bronny had connected with the volley straight from our corner?

We struggled with creativity without Paddy.Would have liked to have seen Rogic at some point but the early sub forced Brendans hand.
Watching the youngsters last night there were three players all showing excellent creativity.
Hendry,Miller and Nesbitt all showed excellent skill and game sense.
If Rogic does not extend then we should promote some of these guys.

Prior to Kolo coming on , we had 2 balls flung into our box , one resulted in them being flagged for offside (with the ball in our net) and the other back post poor effort straight to the keeper, we were beginning to look a big ragged and young O’Connel needed a hand.
Although , we lost a mental goal shortly after the sub , it was the right call and on balance won us the tie.
Early days we are through onwards and upwards …….

Hopefully, Dembele is up-and-running after his match-winner. The young man looked desperate for a goal recently, so winning the pen and converting it should let him relax a bit.
Having watched Zbyszek’s highlights link, I have to say that Astana scored a very good goal with a high degree of difficulty. He got the break of the ball in a contested tackle and he reacted very quickly – Kieran would not have looked at fault had he not shown very quick thinking to get back as far as he did. he had no chance of stopping it.
Agree with TheMaestro72, Broony’s scissor kick from the corner was outstanding and came quite close to staying low enough.

Just in from the match. What a heart stopper. Have always thought 1_1 away from home is a difficult one to deal with in the return leg. Do we attack or defend. I thought we got it right tonight with a measured performance, on the front foot but keeping it tight at the back.
But for an unfortunate clearance, and it was unfortunate as the ball could have landed at a Celtic player, we would have won easily as they would have had to open up towards the end leaving gaps at the back
Onwards and upwards.
