  1. Big Georges Fan Club - Hail, Hail, Wee Oscar on

Me and Wee BGFC just in. Delighted, ecstatic – wee man was greetin at one point when ho thought they had got a second, but we were both jumping about like eejits at the end.

Just read a wee bit back – dearie me – some folk need to get a life. Some terrible comments – cheer up FFS – we WON!!!

Going to ignore all that, and go speak to wee BGFC about the game – delighted :-)))))))

    Bring on Dundalk!!!!!!!

    BGFC

  2. Just seen their goal. What I thoughts at game was wrong, Gordon not to blame, actually did well to get good distance with his header. A great finish, the only criticism would be someone from midfield could have closed down a bit quicker but sometimes there’s just no one to blame (hard for many on on here)

  3. DOC

Doesn’t matter what Celtic do for some Doc because it’s not about Celtic for some is it:))

I’m celebrating in the valley make no mistake about that.

Two pieces and crisps and a bar of fine Swiss chocolate:))

  4. MurdochAuldandHay,

Too much respect, or an attempt to get them to try to play? Draw them out.

They didn’t venture out of their half until, well, they scored.

    The fans were magnificent!

Someone said earlier, sorry too lazy to look back, if CTV turned the supporters sound up it would add to the experience.

  5. MADMITCH

One mans played well, is another mans shocking and Mikel Lustig is by no means a favourite of mine.

First half was he was better than the second but against Ross County at Hampden now that was your word ‘shocking.’

BR will sort it out, at least Janko has youth on his side.

  6. Thought EO’C played well tonight.

He made a few mistakes but he stepped to try and moves us forward from the back.

Huge contrast to the efforts of others who were static in possession even although Astana were backing off. Complete basics that seemed to be beyond some on the park.

Regarding KT — I think he needs a rest, sometime on the bench.

He is starting to pick up bad habits and at times looks as if it is a struggle to keep fully involved for 90 minutes. He will come back stronger and wiser.

    Huge contrast last night.

Once the U20’s had got up to speed with Annan they really came onto a game as they grew in confidence. Passed the ball about, mixed it up — went wide, then tried to play it through the middle and then went long on the diagonal.

All played their part and they seemed to really enjoy the game.

In contrast tonight was laboured from the off especially as PR looked under the weather from the start. Side to side at the back, side to side in the MF, lack of movement up front and a dysfunctional middle of the park.

Tonight looked like a chore to too many of the team.

We are not a happy bunch.

  7. So glad to be through, by hook or by crook it was all that mattered. Let’s hope we add a few quality players and get Erik, Paddy and Kolo up to speed for the play off round.

Hope to avoid Zagreb and Copenhagen who both look decent. We are due a wee break, let’s hope it’s Dundalk.

Anyway tonight, myself and a few around me weren’t too pleased with Dembele when he came on. He looked flat footed and a little disinterested. As the ball was played down the channel i shouted loudly, ‘come on Dembele dae something, smash him out of the way and dae something’. Boy did he oblige.

  8. Gary67

Spot on. But sush. Some want to escape goat Craig Gordon. Must be because Efe wasn’t playing for them to escape goat.

  9. Well deserved the win tonight. Well done to Brendan, the team and the fans. When is the draw?

  10. Celticrollercoaster supporting Shay, our bhoy wonder along the way on

    SFTB

I think Brendan is attack minded, similar at times with Ronnie in set up. He is certainly a more experienced and better coach. Whether he is getting more out the players and/or more of the breaks one will never know, but I will take it and look forward to the revolution :-) As you say, long way to go

Job done tonight with a bit of nail biting along the way

    HH

    CRC

  11. From the top of the JS stand the goal looked bad for CG.

They mixed it up then put a ball into the centre channel for the RF to chase.

CG comes charging out of his area and seems to put in a poor headed clearance straight down the middle with no height so that is immediately back in play.

He is well out of position, back pedalling furiously and they get the break of the ball.

The shot looks pretty flat and KT struggles with his attempted header.

Ball climbs into the net and we as a team look very poor.

  12. Qualifying round opponents from

    Dinamo Zagreb

    Ludogorets

    Copenhagen

    Hapoel Beer Sheva

    Dundalk

  13. Two glaring unforgiveable errors did occur tonight which undercut any narrative that we have greatly improved our “softness”.

The first was when Kieran passed back badly to Stuart Armstrong and, instead of Stuart rushing back to cover Kieran’s error, he gestured for Kieran to get back and deal with it. Meanwhile an Astana player spotted their dithering and it took a risky but good saving tackle from Kieran to prevent damage.

The second was the awful moment when Kolo took a defensive free kick and square passed to Eoghan who was either getting instructions from the bench or just staring at the manager. Either way, he did not notice the 25 yard pass until it arrived at his feet. Again Astana players were too slow to react and take advantage but less jet-lagged teams will not be so negligent.

We did a lot of good things but we still have a softness, nervousness and concentration issues which will have to be rectified on the training ground.

At least this bunch of players will, yet again, have European football to Xmas, in which to apply any learned improvements.

  14. great result and performance – this is still a pre season team, new manager, new tactics, a few new players, and injuries across central defense.

What has been so pleasing for me is that we now have a manager who makes great decisions at the right time. This is what we are paying for. He is constantly coaching and feels the “swings” in the game. love it so far.

And – we have much more to offer with a bit more quality brought in!

    well done bhoys!

  15. There is no doubt that the impatience and disatisfaction among our fans has increased every year that the Ibrox mob have been outside the top tier.

Tonight it was palpable and pronouced.

Why is this? Do sections of our support feel that we should be further away from the Ibrox mob and are petrified that they may once again present a challenge?

I don’t think that I can remember a time when there was so much fear in the stands during parts of a game.

  16. BSR @ 11.05

Fair point regarding the first half.

However when PR went off his head went down.

From 60m away I am sure he started to play with a limp.

From then on I thought he was a hobbling liability.

He then had no ambition when he had the ball at the back.

  17. SFTB’s, rejoice indeed.

However, I think, just think, BR made changes RD may not have, therefore affected the flow, and outcome, of the game, for example, removing Armstrong for Toure, not a negative move, watch his play, he surged forward at the right time and this affected the game.

Dembele on for McGregor worked, obviously:-)

Of course I can’t prove that, but I think it true.

Were they substitutions RD would have made? I don’t think so.

I wasn’t there, but did the formation change? hard to tell on TV.

It has in other games so far, RD would not have done this I think?

We have seen a change already.

But time will tell, and I am looking forward to finding out!

Just dropped in while on train on my way home from game

Started at page 9 and read this

    FOXY on 3RD AUGUST 2016 10:34 PM

I have read some utter tripe on here in my time but this takes the biscuit.

  19. Job done over the two games well done everyone, looking forward to the draw on Friday, is there any reason that in here after games people need a scapegoat? What’s that shit all about? I’m sorry a just don’t get it, we won, so? Hang the goalie?

  20. The Battered Bunnet on

Brendan Rodgers, words to the effect of…

The crowd were great, but they need to trust the players more. The players were doing exactly what I asked of them, and they were doing it well. It doesn’t help, the anxiety from the crowd.

Sit back, relax a bit and trust us. We know what we’re doing.

MATS NILLOC on 3RD AUGUST 2016 11:13 PM

The fear and unrest comes from what our players are doing (or not doing) on the park.

Nothing to do with a dead team in a mausoleum stadium.

  22. HOOPTASTIC on 3RD AUGUST 2016 11:15 PM

I’d say Ludogorets after Dundalk would be the best draw.

No idea who Hapoel Beer Sheva are,

Zagreb always have very good players who invariably move on to bigger leagues and Copenhagen would probably be the hardest game.

  23. Must say well done Scott Brown. Thought you were past it and struggling last season but starting to play well again. Injury free with hopefully a big season ahead.

  25. Well done Celtic

Well done Dembele, I was bricking it!

3 boys in defence ; O’Connell, KT and Janko, I wonder if any of them are shaving yet?

  26. Well we are through. And we deserved it.

Disappointed by some of the comments on here tonight and some comments at the game.

3 youngsters in defence with Lustig by and large played really well and nullified Astana.

The game was controlled by us for long periods with relative comfort. One goal, freakish finish……keeper at fault? Maybes aye maybes naw. But mistakes happen. Dust down and move on!

But if you read some of the comments on here about Gordon, about Lustig, about Forrest, about McGregor, about Armstrong……..we WON ffs.

And before I finish is everything in the garden rosy….no of course not. We still desperately need more quality and dig, but we are through, so give some credit where it is due.

Ps Broony answered some of his boys. Immense.

  27. TBB, a bit more, back the players, I know what I’m doing, rather than sit back and relax:-)

    But I get the gist.

  28. Referee was good.

He threatened to book goalie for mischief at first penalty and then booked him at second penalty.

Not perfect but much better than The Dallas Boys.

  29. squire danaher on

Ludogorets had three Brazilians and another who declares for Bulgaria in their starting line up last night at Red Star

    Think again

We are a long way from good enough to be thinking any playoff round team is a gimme.

    Even Dundalk.
