  1. Yes Big Jock managed Jinky, of that there can be no doubt. I don’t think it was within GS gift to be a manager like Big Jock. I tend to believe Bobby here. GS couldn’t or didn’t know how to handle Riordan. The two players were similar in some ways, at least personality wise. Riordan could have went on to be a star player. One that seed of doubt is laid in a young person is awful. Label them and they become.

Was bordertown also subtitles never thought i would like that till I seen the bridge

My Dad,and his generation, can wax lyrical about Charles Patrick,Bobby Evans,Bobby Collins. Et al.

Players who made them smile in an era when there was little to smile about.

I saw Celtic for the first time in Oct 67,(2-1 against Aberdeen I think) I just remember another team,in red,and we won. I was just turned four.

Aye,pretty much feeding time for The Lions.

I saw them,G. So did you. So did many of us on here, and to this day, every one is a legend.

But IMO George was better than them all,and aye,I know it’s late on a Saturday.

    Philvis-style Thumbs-up,old bean!

    How’s trix?

Ma Da’ loved George, we stood in the Celtic End with him going on and on about him being the greatest thing since sliced bread and even trying to convince ma Mammy of that:))

He had that grace that great football players have, aye who knows what he would have done in the game!

Ye kin keep yer Beckenbauer as the auld fella used tae say!

Keep an eye on Young Ayer tho’ looks a player alright:))

Yer oul’ Da’,fine judge. Mine anaw,we have a bigger gene pool to pick from,I suppose, but that generation knew a player.

    Now,he’s a dud,bin him,effing useless,waste of money.

    Then…

    Aye,just a boy,his auntie stays round the corner,needs a wee bit of time,but he’ll be awright.

I know I’ll get the jumpers for goalposts stuff, but it’s true, regardless of that. There’s people on here have Bertie Auld’s phone number, and can go for a drink with him. Or Jim Craig. Willie Wallace Various of our legends, they were always available. And,sadly, other numbers not in use any more.

My uncle was at school wi Bobby Lennox,-marvellous man,not just a great player-and it was my uncle who played for the school team.

What do you reckon,G-are we better for the likes of Lubo and Henrik, take the rough with the smooth wi an Amido or du Wei as a counterweight,or was jumpers for goalposts something we could relate to?

Can we relate to our heroes these days?

  7. Starry, thanks. I’m well into the foreign series with sub-titles, absolutely love them. I’ll look out for Borderland, not heard of that one before.

    Gute Nacht, ins Bett.

  8. BOBBY MURDOCH’S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS

The game has changed beyond all recognition from the one we grew up with, I’ve said many times on here I rarely watch any football apart from Celtic now, I just can’t stand the corporatisation of it and the mercenary aspect of it now.

I remember coming in from school one day in the 70’s and Wee Jimmy was sitting in ma living room talking tae ma Da’ I floated on a cloud for months, I was dumbstruck and could only mumble hello Mr Johnstone:)) But there he was in the flesh wearing a brown jacket!!

They were heroes those players, that time and we could relate to them, they were like or Da’s and our Uncles, our cousins and our brothers!

Henrik was my last bone fide Hero much as tho’ I loved the wee man from Japan and they were both fearless and had that quiet strength that heroes have.

Broony is a Celtic hero for many of the same reasons but the days of players being heroes is gone I think it’s all too short now , too many transfers, too much mad money.

I’m glad Brendans team has some heroes in it so that the weans can get a strip wi’ their heroes names oan it, there was a period there where we were a use Stranglers song!!

It’s the same in everything tho’ cleaned up, scrubbed up and sold back to us by men in suits who wouldn’t know one end of a park tae the other or which was the A side oan a record!!

    Whit’s a Bhoy tae dae!

Bring on the Jags tae ah see ma Heroes!!

    Liking ON these days!

  9. Bobby, thanks again for the help you and your friends gave a few months ago about travel arrangements around Glasgow. I opted out of it, too difficult. But hey ho! Is the ‘George’ they are talking about George Connolly? If so, what a player he could have become. A hundred years ago I worked with a guy who knew him. I think he lived in that village in Fife just after you cross the Forth on the bridge. Said he was a smashing guy but had his demons I suppose. What a pity.

  10. Aye,…….keep an eye oan big Ajer! :-)))))

  11. Kris Ajer, 19 years old and 5 clean sheets in a row.

In other news i see Moussa has liked a Tweet that criticised some Celtic supporters and the Manager for getting on his case. It’s an odd situation. In the last game Moussa played he hardly moved his backside, if Brendan gave him it tight then tough, suck it up and get on with it.

  12. KevJ.

Kristoffer is the Real REAL DEAL. Kris Ajer.

Canny blame you for that,a bit of a hike.

When do you reckon you’ll see green grass again in yer wee town? I was on the phone wi WEEFRA yesterday, nope, sorry, just checked the time, the day before, and he was in Stravethen. He said the snow was up to his knees.

    I bit my lip.

Anyone who thinks Mark McGhee is a manager hasn’t got a Scooby

  15. Kristoffer Ajer, 5 successive games, 5 clean sheets. Coincidence?

Haters hate. The rest of us support, especially our young players.

  16. Nobody bullied the Bhoy. He thought (wrongly) he could shield the ball out for a shy.

A good learning experience for him…when in doubt get it tae…

He looks a class act tae me.

  17. Fred C. Dobbs,

Terrible play by the Young Dude.

It was a shocking decision. Fantastic other than that.

    HAPPY.petec and Aidan.

    Oli – WOW.

  18. Good morning from a very humid Mornington Peninsula. We are in the next round of the Cup.That is as good a reason as any to have a wee celebration today at our wee club meeting on Main Street.I had the great pleasure of meeting Melbourne Mick in the Grande yesterday. He is here for the weekend on his holidays. And yes he bought me a schooner of cold carlton draught.I have never seen anyone shake so much when parting with their cash.As usual the banter was good.He was on his best behaviour as his Princess was coming to pick him up.Today is another day,can I make it 2 in a rowe.We also have the pleasure of having a young man called Richy McKay entertain us with a wide Range of our type of music. He has written a song about Buckfast. He sang it at the last Huns game.Hillarious Stuff.Anyway good people,Have a nice day.A big Hail Hail, from down under.

  19. Riordin ruined Riordin. Only moved when the ball was at his feet. Lazy player. Not up to the rigours of playing for Celtic.

Talented player that lacked application. Can’t blame GS for that.

  20. Since there are now a few posters freely admitting to the heady attractions of thermal vests and long johns in winter:

Can we become an official CQN Clique?

Can we do a calendar in our undies and woolen balaclavas?

Since I got an official Celtic Fergie bunnet for Christmas I’d be prepared to go the Full Monty and wear a bunnet in the picture.

Just so long as I keep the balaclava on. To spare the kiddies’ blushes ye ken.

For all of you who, like me, rose in the shoulders of our coal mining giants in Lanarkshire and elsewhere and for those same giants of men who died gasping for breath as a result of their labours. Gone but never ever forgotten! Our Celtic family owes them much but our bigger family, the working class, owes them more! Up the miners!
