Watched yesterday’s game in a wee Romanian social club . Timisoara/ Steaua/ Dynamo present but no Cluj fans .

The Romanians were surprised at how poor Celtic were at retaining / passing the ball. Sadly , I wasn’t .

    Rant over —- off oot.

  2. Kayal is more back up/replacement for Broonie rather than Victor. He’s too unreliable to play the defensive midfield role in Europe but in the SPFL he is more than capable.

  3. I feel our mid-fielders are often over-stretched due to the opposition usually having more numbers in that area. Hence the yellow -red cards and the lungeing in and mistimed challenges. An extra body there and then its easier for them to create and express themselves.

I thought Beram Kayal was a good player when he came to Celtic, I still think he is a good player. The crap about Manchester United was not of Beram Kayal’s making.

So many players come to Celtic and get hyped to the heveans only to be found wanting. One in particular that sticks in my mind is Landry N’Guemo, I thought he was one of the most over-hyped players ever to pull on a Celtic jersey.

I don’t think Kayal was looking to be sent off against Kilmarnock, I just think he only has so much in his locker and being cute is not in an abundance; though his honest commitment is there for all to see.

In my opinion I have only ever seen one performance from a Celtic player when it looked like he was playing to be sent off and that was Chris Sutton against Rangers, when, if my memory serves (and I am happy to be corrected), we were two nil down at Ibrox.

Meant to add, that crunching tackle from Victor in Moscow, a lot of people would have called that as a two footed tackle. I think it was borderline.

As for Elbows doing Beram, I never ever saw it that way, for me, Beram was just unlucky in a big boys tackle. The tackle he kopped in Perth, Australia, now that was a nasty when his nose got in the way of a deliberate elbow. I think that tackle in Perth done him more harm than hun-elbows tackle ever did.

My dad is called billy from Bridgeton, not a wind up honest, so if I sung the song for my father changed the 2 words would I pass the pf test, see their is more than one Billy in Bridgeton, the law has more wholes in it than a t bag.”

” the 2 words they want changed I have no problem with, but the billy boys part can never be taken away, who in they’re right mind think I sing about a razor gang, brought up in he east end no one ever spoke about the billy boys, most Rangers fans sing it as Billy is a common Rangers fans name, I have a dad and older brother called Billy, it is just nonsense to say otherwise.”

I hope you have better luck than me and Mrs PMTYH. It was our Silver Wedding anniversary in April 2010, we drove to London, from Germany, for our flight from Heathrow to fly to Dubai then a cruise (it was known on the cruise that it was our anniversary). Well that was the year of the Icelandic volcano, our flight was cancelled and we missed the cruise. We spent our anniversary touring Britain and going to see friends and family. Still have never been on a cruise yet!

Never mind 22*C here with a high of 25*C, absolutely glorious with not a cloud in the sky, just some noisy feckers in the closed pub behind us having a rave ggrrrrr!

Hail! Hail! PMTYH ,who is looking forward to his trip to Berlin with the misuss to see the Bhoys :-)

  8. If VW goes it will be very difficult to adequately replace him.

Beram is not the answer imo. Efe might be, but I have my doubts.

Imho too many people seeing victor as a magnificent player.

Im a big fan.. have been since he signed for us… but he has had his share of bad games too.

A few of the criticisms aimed at kayal could be levelled at victor too. Stupid bookings that we could see coming. .. cup semi final for example … then kayal does the same thing .

If vic has his sights elsewhere.. bye bye and good luck. If kayal stays and plays… from that day beram will be a celt and wanyama not…. so BK will be one of my favourite players and VW will not matter a jot to.me

  10. Morning all

Re Kayal. I never saw the tackle in Perth so cannot comment but to me he’s never really recovered from the injury at Inverness in May 11. He was very, very good that season, whole hearted, good on the ball if a bit slack in his passing and just beginning to get the goals he’d been threatening to score since. In 11-12 his play declined and I didn’t like that ‘duck’ v Athletico either. Since the Elbow’s incident he has not improved. I cannot see him as a viable replacement for VW though I’d concede that with a decent run of games he may prove me wrong.

the kayal debate. I dont think there is any comparison..vic is more tyson in his prime and kayal is more peter grant..crazy in the takles and reckless without thought.if he can discover some of his early form thats as close as he’l ever get to vic on a poor day..no goal threat from kayal what so ever..poor passer most of the time..flatters to decieve as my da would say..a graeme sinclair type! Sorry but not for me,my son and his friends met him in a nightclub during his good spell at the club and he was extremely ignorant to them when they were only trying to tell him he was playing well..one asked for s pic.with him..no chance!not the type for our young uns to follow, hardly a role model for the club h.h

Seriously off topic but someone (forgotten the username) posted a week or so back trying to contact a TMcF who had lived in various parts of Inverclyde, had worked in Jersey and had married a girl from Port Glasgow. Now, I met the long lost Tony tonight, told him the tale and he is very interested in renewing the contact. So, if Tony’s friend is out there, please be in touch.

  17. Re VW v Bk, I don’t see BK as a replacement, has not captured the early promise he showed, and is very often slack and inattentive, ie that second half pass yesterday put us in all sorts of trouble. One thing that match showed is that you cannot play without a midfield and we certainly did not have one. Was impressed in the way that Cluj played the ball on the deck most of the game and could retain possession and play their way out of trouble. We on the other hand…………..

    Bournesouprecipe 9.24,

Your mention of bluebell woods brought back long buried memories.

When I was a wean, the highlight of a Summer weekend was a trek out of Clydebank & away to the countryside, & the sylvan delights of the Bluebell Woods in DRUMCHAPEL.

Often we would carry big baby-milk ( Ostermilk ?) tins which we would fill with rose-hips, which we collected & brought into school on the Monday morning. The schools at the time sold them to the manufacturers of rose-hip syrup & thereby raised money for shool funds.

Imagine weans now going on a day-out to Drumchapel.

Excellent summary. I was a huge fan of Kayal in his first season. He was tenacious, hungry and looked keen to improve his game.

Injuries have played their part but I also think him having his contract improved has contributed to his dip. Before we saw a player desperate to prove his worth and possibly earn himself premiership wages. Now I see a player more interested in hair gel and wrist bands. A wee look at his twitter feed confirms this. Constantly posting pictures of himself. I think he has got what he wants out of the game for now, a hefty salary and a celebrity status in a small pond.

Would love to be proved wrong but I don’t think for a second he is a replacement for Wanyama.

The new contract situation gives us food for thought for our other recruits. Sometimes it’s best to keep these guys hungry on modest wages and move them on when their stock is high rather than give them the big contract when they are still young.

I believe you. I got lost a couple of weeks ago and ended up driving through Larkhall for the first time. Co-op has signage all over the rest of Scotland in bright green. Larkhall Co-op has black lettering on a white background. I take it Billy didn’t like the other one.

  25. I think NFL is having a wee bit of football psyhcology trying to give Beram Kayal a lift, for a midfield berth while Celtic apparently have no intention of trying to fill the void that will be left by Victor Wanyama.

We want to sell Victor it’s hardly a Henrik Larsson scenario and the profit Celtic will receive is an offer few clubs would reject, Celtic could easily outpay Southampton if they really wanted to, but they don’t. The situation with Hooper is similar and Celtic simply want to move on.

Beram Kayal has scored two goals into his fourth season at Celtic and is a shadow of the potential player he was, he overuns the ball and is late for more tackles than most, if there is money to be spent and if ‘business is assetted properly’, Celtic should reinvest some cash in a new class midfielder, whilst Beram searches for his game.

  26. The Boy Jinky on

Nice picture of wee Oscar on facebook… wearing his new Hoops kit and doing the broony ;)

  27. McDowellCelt on

Everton latest club to be reported to be closing in on big vic.. Massive loss for us but in my opinion losing hoopers goals if he is sold is a bigger worry for these qualifiers and group stages if we make it .. Watt seems to have fallen out of favour, Lennon has said amido is one for the future, that leaves stokes and big sammi to get us the goals if hooper leaves!

  28. What about wee Jinky and Ferenc Puskas in that ‘greatest ever team’?

    Franco Baresi?

    Zico?

    I could go on!

    HH!!

  29. An on song kayal would walk into that celtic team but we’ve not seen that for a couple of reason.

struggled to return from injury, when fit he’s not getting a game (not able to build up game time) and like every other players his confidence will dip alongside his match sharpness. not a problem for some in our team

seems to me brown (captain) Charlie (must always gets a game), forrest and hooper always play no matter how shite they are

victor is an excellent player and rarely underperforms

    ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

dont think victor will be with us much longer if the reports (talking to southhampton) are true and i dont see why we would us any money gained from victor to keep hooper, ledley, stokes or anyone else.

ledley is one of our highest earners, stokes barely kicked a ball last year due to injury, his terms should no better than what he was on. the only player who deserves a wage hike is hooper and victors 8k wage and bonuses should go some way to that end, given that we have already shifted out about 7 players and only brought in two. p.s. not that I am complaining!!!!!!!!!!

  30. BIG-CUP-WINNERS on

Re- Wanyama: take the cash and run. Having Victor at CP next season is a dangerous gamble. For reference we only have to look at Beram’s roller-coaster ride. Take the dough and buy a player with some creativity.
