Played for Aberdeen mid 70s, loved it, got a couple of trials for scotland, but couldn’t handle the pressure, the arm was like a rock, but the legs were like jelly.

And there are a few on here putting the game down, aye, I would like to see them giving it a lash, pressure is what is all about.

Fair play to you, your family comes first, there are no that many Phil Taylors about.

Calm yourself. It’s all about opinions and although you may disagree it’s ridiculous to describe a question as absurd.

In my humble opinion Alex Hiiggins and Paddy McCourt should consider themselves fortunate to be mentioned in the same sentence as John Higgins and Paul McStay.

I’m not decrying the skill involved in darts only the justification in calling it a sport.

  12. Good Ghod, weekend over again and the despair of Monday morning and work will be on me again , Murray was brilliant today.

Missing the fitba, roll on Cliftonville.

It’s amazing , a couple of months away from Paradise and I actually feel a bit homesick.

I think Salmond has to be seen to enjoy this moment, but it’s not doing him any favours at all.

Ever seen the bhoy at celtic park.. does the keepy uppy… dressed as santa end of last year. Amazing skills… wonder why he doesnt get a game for us ;)

I agree that Alex was a natural … a bit like ronnie o sullivan.. but neither will go down as greatest players due to attitude and lack of application over the years

    It’s a difficult one really.

I know lots of people who think golf is a pastime and not a sport.

    IMHO, a sport is a team game, all the others are an indulgance, but it’s all about opinions, as long as we don’t fall out over it >}

Fully agree with your post. Murray has worked his way up against some of the best players ever. One grand slam win would have been fantastic but holding three titles as one time is an achievement that I cannot remember from any other Scot in a global game like tennis.

Murray is excellent at stopping his opponent getting into a rhythm. He is patient and can switch tactics.

May I say that Djokovic was an exemplary example of good grace with his after match comments. He is also a true champion

Having a celebratory whisky for Murray but I would have had a Slivovica if Novak had won.

TBJ – I seen the skills fella on the Celtic youtube site.

Understand what you are saying to a certain extent. But Alex Higgins,on top form would have demolished John Higgins all day long.

TCR – Not a bother mate.

I couldn’t get any tickets for Solitude,it was a frenzy.

That’s why i said that i hope Celtic destroy them.

    :)

Just watching the highlights of the Murray game today. I think anyone would be hard pushed to claim that’s not sport.

Meanwhile over near Kinning Park some individuals are attempting to claim pie munching as a sport :-)

The one and only time I was was in the Lurgan CSC was in 1981, when, on the way to a Glenavon match, the Reds bus I was on stopped off for a pre-match drink (Lurgan was always good for backing us). The club wasn’t looking the best and the barman explained why.

The night before Jocky Wilson had been in an exhibition game and as the evening progressed so did the pints. And as the pints went down the songs came out – classic orange party tunes – as he was oblivious to where he was. They crowd weren’t happy and a fight broke out between those who wanted to kneecap him and those who wanted to protect the World Champion in waiting. He was shoved out into a taxi and the crowd wrecked the place.

My cousin used to go to AA meetings in Belfast in the late 70s which Alex Higgins used to attend. She said that he was an unreconstructed bigot of the lowest order
