VP – No way chief,i just like darts that’s all.

That Glesga place is insane at the best of times mate, wouldn’t fancy being there when the zombies are let out for the day.Im sure ye seen some horrific sights lol.

TBJ – I do not understand how darts is not considered to be a true sport chief.

McGill – John Higgins a better snooker player than Alex Higgins?

    Behave yerself.

Not often i get excited about any other sport but that was a truly historic and phenomenal achievement by Andy Murray today – not ashamed to say I had to wipe away a wee tear when his moment of destiny arrived. Brilliant stuff.

When were you a county player ?

Played a bit of the darts masel in the day, played against Jocky at county level.

My doubles partner was a bloke called Jack Cowie.

John Higgins — World champion 4 times

Alex Higgins –World champion 2 times (it was also easier back in the day)

Methinks 16 Roads is in a Huff today because Andy Murray won Wimbledon. The only sporting Scots who are “allowed” to be world beaters and historic champions are Celtic..who are Irish of course.

    Well done Andy Murray!!!

  6. I suppose it’s all about your definition of ‘better’.

John Higgins has won twice the number of world titles than Alex did yet the latter is often described as one of the most prestigious talents the game has ever seen.

Is Paddy McCourt a ‘better’ footballer than Paul McStay?!

Paying for ‘priority boarding’ on a Ryanair flight is about as futile as being part of David Cameron’s cabinet. Yes, you may well get ahead quicker in life but you’ll still have to sit next to an utter twat

  8. 16 roads - Neil Lennon walks on water. on

McGill – You are sort of correct for once.

I backed that other chump at the start of the tournament.

    Tennis is for wimps anyway.

I would never consider darts a real sport…. its just a game.

Imho … darts is like dominoes .

Not the pizza place … Although most dart players look as if they frequent them often ;)

HT – When we played football on the streets as kids,I was always Paul McStay,so i refuse to answer the latter of your questions…because i consider it to be absurd.

As for the Higgins question – Alex had more talent in his wee toe.

He just didn’t apply himself properly.

John Higgins was more professional, that’s all.

The paddy / paul comparison with alex / john is pretty good.

Also paddy / alex liked a fag n a booze while john / Paul were non smokers and not really boozers

I like to think im a john / paul ….

Ringo and George were mere spectators really. ken. When you think about it. Really.

  24. 16 roads - Neil Lennon walks on water. on

McGill – Alex Higgins once tapped me for a tenner,God rest him.

I said listen Alex,i will give ye a tenner mate, don’t be asking for lend of it,because we both know that i will never get it back.

He loved horse racing he did,but he couldn’t pick his nose.

A very intelligent person though,a genuis infact.

That’s a matter of fact…. ringo couldn’t hit a double in a month of Sundays and the only pot George knew was the wacky backy

“Alex had more talent in his wee toe.

He just didn’t apply himself properly.

John Higgins was more professional, that’s all.”

And that is what differentiates those with a natural, God given talent who don’t make the most of it and those with a talent who spend every day trying to improve – being “more professional”, if you like.

That’s what makes real world champions – the driving desire to be “more professional” and to be the best possible.

If Roger Federer had adopted Alex Higgins approach, he would have probably won a couple of Grand Slam events – Like Marat Safin or Lleyton Hewitt.

As it happened, he took the John Higgins approach, and tried to be “more professional” in his approach.

He’s won 17 Grand Slam events by the way. (and counting)

Played for Devon in early 90’s, nearly cost me my marriage so had to stick to super league and normal league darts, missed the buzz of county though, great weekends.

    16 roads,

Was Higgins looking a tenner to keep the zombies in business..?£

  32. Just in case anyone doubts Andy Murray’s right to be considered one of the best two male tennis players in the world…

There are effectively FIVE major tennis titles that a player can win: Wimbledon, the US, Australian and French Opens, and the Olympics.

Murray now holds THREE of those five titles, and he only actually played in four of the tournaments. He finished runner-up in the only other one that he entered.

So the pressure will now switch back onto James Ward for next year’s Championship as he tries to end England’s 78 year wait for another Wimbledon men’s champion…
