Celtic v Dundee United

Under different circumstances, we would applaud, or stand in silence, to mark the passing of Jim McLean, the former Dundee United manager, who died on Boxing Day.  McLean’s achievements in the Scottish game are eclipsed by few, perhaps only Jock Stein and Alex Ferguson.  His team United the country with wins on the European stage that could scarcely be dreamed of now.

During his term, United received an accolade from Uefa ahead of a Celtic game.  Post-match, he spoke warmly of the Celtic support, a generous moment.  I am glad United visit Celtic Park to mark his passing today, it is just a pity we are not all there to share it.

  1. 7-0 would be a fair reflection. Lost the impetus for 15 mins in 2nd half after injury but got it back.

    Good game.

  2. While I have occasionally, very occasionally, been a smidgen wrong in my judgement of a performance, I think today I and quite a few others can all bow to a certain level of humility and acknowledge a master-class in professionalism.

Game management, objectivity, empathy with what was happening across the field of play, good natured banter and a display of unflinching integrity that will become the core of any curriculum in future refereeing classes across the globe.

Well Done Willie Collum…..a joy to behold…..a hero indeed to all right thinking football fans!

    Hail Hail

    Matt

  3. well played bhoys – we have a team good on the eye. One or two central defenders would help this team . Rangers will put us under more pressure but we can outscore them with this type of display.

  4. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

    Well done Bhoys.

Still room for improvement but, from where we were four weeks ago, that was a good performance.

    Hail hail

    Keep the faith

  5. Well played Celtic, nothing to fear at an empty bigotdome apart fear itself. Let’s turn up for a change, eh?

  6. lennon said we will give someone a going over soon – we’ve looked likely , lets hope we destroy them on saturday and put them back in their place!

  7. Not Frimpongs biggest fan. But credit where it due . He had great second half.

Still wouldn’t play him at fullback on Saturday. Would have him further forward instead of Christie.

  8. A few seasons ago, I said to one of my fellow supporters that when we started taking a higher percentage of our GOOD chances, we would start hammering some teams. We did and we did. Our last two or three games have created a similar feeling. Timely, too.

  9. Garngad to Croy on

Great result and superb performance in the first half , I don’t think the pitch helped us in the second half as it was cutting up. Onwards with confidence to face the Huns !

  10. The Blogger Formerly Known As GM on

Good result, but second half took the shine off it a little.

All DU did was up their tempo a little and venture up field. That chance they had when Juliene was injured took 2 passes from their own box. They had. couple more when we looked all over the place.

Anyway, on to Mordor. I hope Juliene makes a swift recovery.

  11. Just the performance we needed before Greyskull.lots of good invidual performances too Turnbull, Ajer ,Frimpong and Soro.

    Get well soon Julien🤐

  12. Steady improvement. Very good today but lost it a bit for a 10 minute spell early in the second half. A month ago we would have allowed that to continue but we got a grip on it.

The orcs will press us high from the get go. Deal with it and move the ball through it quickly is the key. They won’t go all out against us. They don’t play that way in Europe or against us. They will try and hit on the break. An alert Soro is a must therefore. On tidays showing im not sure if Taylor or Laxalt should start. Would definitely prefer Ajer at RB with Jeremy in front of him. Maybe the tactical experts will tell me if that works in the ‘diamond’s?

It is frustrating that we got ourselves into this mess but Neil Lennon has gone to the bigot done under similar pressure and won against better the rangers franchise teams.

  13. Apart from ropey period start of second half that was a most satisfying performance,

Only gripe we should have scored 7 & Bitton trying to give away a penalty,

A Happy Tim tonight, I have 5 in mind for Jobo vote, Soro, Turnbull, Frimpong, Griff & Ajer.

Unfortunately 3 into 5 doesn’t go, so 2 will have to go.
