Celtic v Dundee United

663

Under different circumstances, we would applaud, or stand in silence, to mark the passing of Jim McLean, the former Dundee United manager, who died on Boxing Day.  McLean’s achievements in the Scottish game are eclipsed by few, perhaps only Jock Stein and Alex Ferguson.  His team United the country with wins on the European stage that could scarcely be dreamed of now.

During his term, United received an accolade from Uefa ahead of a Celtic game.  Post-match, he spoke warmly of the Celtic support, a generous moment.  I am glad United visit Celtic Park to mark his passing today, it is just a pity we are not all there to share it.

julien , Ajer, Bitton and Duffy honestly we don’t have any centre backs of note , we could select any 2 from that 4 and defend as poorly with any pairing ,no positional sense, no pace, can’t defend set pieces.

    ……………..

Totally agree. We passed up on Scott McKenna. I think that Declan Gallagher and Craig Halkett ( Hun of the Darkest Order according to someone on here 😂) could have done an excellent job for us on short term contracts. None of our centre halfs inspire confidence. Ajer is much better at right back.

  2. Soro was once again virtually flawless.A 24 Carat diamond.

Wee Jeremy still frustrates the hell out of me.If he had the nous to finish off all his brilliant, turbo charged, build up play,he would be right up there.Instead he has me screaming at him,far too often.

As I said I wouldn’t be much of a whisky drinker, I love the stuff but it does strange things to me, I am Ok if I drink it under supervision mind you…..I will have a look for it and get back to you

    Kayal.

    —————–

    Loved that guy.

    ……. ………..

Kayal was an absolute shyster. In the infamous game at Kilmarnock which nearly got Lenny the sack in his first iteration as Celtic manager and we were trailing 3-0 at half time, Kayal never tried a leg. He was in dispute with the club over a new contract. He never appeared for the second half. Charlie Mulgrew and Anthony Stokes took charge of matters in the second half and through their brilliance and effort we got a 3-3 draw. I couldn’t stand the sight of Kayal after that game.

It appears that predictive text can’t stand the sight of his name either as they keep trying to change it.

  5. Scott McKenna would have floated my boat.

However he has gone away from the holy ground.

Maybe some day he will sail the south seas over, and he’ll return for more.

To see again the bhoys we love and the holy ground once more.

  6. CORKCELT @9-32pm. If that’s another one at me 🤷🏽‍♂️

Big Julian goes down every game, and I mean every game like he’s been took out by a sniper.

If he doesn’t play on Saturday it’s because he can’t stop passing or heading the ball back into danger.Or because he has the heart the size of a pea.

  7. Original series buoy,

H,mm,its funny that we have some big clubs, seemingly willing to pay 8 figure sums for Ajer.We ourselves paid 7 million for Jullien..Now you might say that they are not worth that, but in a market that values top CHs,a bit North of 70 million,we are not doing too bad.We can all dream, and say we could get better, but its all opinion. We are not doing too badly when you consider, that Turnbull and Soro, were bought for around 6 million, the pair.Gallagher,I mentioned a few times, and was shot down. All opinions.,

  8. TOSB- Kayal was on a booking at Kilmarnock, and he emptied someone just before HT,so he could get a 2nd one,how he never is beyond me,Kenny Clark might have been the ref,he didn’t want to be there,I didn’t trust him after that game.

  9. TOSB-you honestly think Gallagher would sign for any team on a short term contract.😉

    Why🤔

The incentive is to go there and take their unbeaten run off them and plunge them into a sea of chaos and doubt. It’s time to remember we are glasgow Celtic and we run this city.

    …………..

You’ve got the blood coursing through my veins, the hunger in my belly and the battle fever raging through me. Keep up your posting of this nature young mhan and come kick-off time on Saturday it’ll be CHAAAARGE! 😂

Re your comment about Frimpong I actually thought he played his best game for Celtic and although some parts of his game are still quite raw he did, in my opinion, take the ball forward very quickly, created many chances for others and simultaneously gave relief to our defence when stretched.

  12. Por Cierto

Not possible. He only scouts the duds.

(I hope that comment never proves to be true)

Anyway, well done to whoever did scout him.

  13. Centre of defence is a worry

Would take Ryan Porteous from Hibs, before any of the others mentioned ?

  14. Players talk, agents talk, everyone knows what it’s like to play for Celtic, IMO it’s our biggest hurdle we have to overcome to attract players to the club, the standard of the cheating, and the silence from the club re the cheating, till the club grow some balls it will carry on as per.

  15. Bada

I had forgotten that incident but you’ve reminded me. Everybody was screaming at their telly because it was so obvious Kayal wanted to be sent off. I couldn’t stomach the idea of any Celtic player doing that. He could have been great for us but he couldn’t be trusted.

  16. Anthony Joseph@AnthonyRJoseph·1h

Celtic defender Christopher Jullien has bruising and swelling around the knee and will be assessed before Saturday’s huge game against Rangers.

Neil Lennon also said he wants Vasilis Barkas to be the No1 goalkeeper at the club.

  17. TurkeyBhoy

I’m not saying Ajer isn’t worth 8 figures. I just don’t believe he is a good centre back. He is great at right back and I also think he would be great in midfield. Bitton is also a midfielder and doesn’t have a centre back’s instincts. Duffy is a dud and Jullien is a fan dancer. We need to buy proper centre backs who do what it says on the tin.

  18. Bhoys and Ghirls, contributors and lurkers alike, everyone is welcome to vote for their 3 best players from today’s fine win. Finish 2020 in style by making your opinion count for something. I have a sneaky feeling it’s going to be very tight at the top on this one. Your email, please, with your 3 names by 10pm tomorrow night – cqnpoty@gmail.com ;-)

  19. Frimpong has just turned 20 and has played not much more than a season at top level football.

Patience, Messi and Ronaldo weren’t consistent at that age either, the boy has all the tools to be a star and Scotland is definitely toughening him up.

I meant to say about the whisky thing, a few years back, about 25 when I was in Scotland, I played for a rural darts team and we were playing away in a small village, anyways we were waiting for our mini bus to take us home and it didn’t appear due to the snow falling, so the owner of the bar who was a whisky buff decided to break out some of his collection, he produced a dozen or so different bottles, all they had on them were numbers, we eventually got home about six in the morning and it’s was one of the only times I never made my work the next day due to the drink, but I fair enjoyed it ;>]

  21. julien for all of his height is a woose , bullied by second rate target men , took the huff when he got dropped when Duffy came in and he decided he had a back injury that no one could find so he went abroad to find someone that could, thinks he’s better than he is.

  22. Feckin Sky do my nut in!

Fawning all over Sevco – ” Rangers win again to maintain their lead at the top of the SPFL and record their best start to a league campaign since 1928” – whit???

Well guess what ya shower of right wing ****s, Rangers died and the team you are referring to, I.e. The Rangers, are only 8 years old and this is only their 4th season in the top flight so feck right off!

Then their coverage of our game starts with a reference to a minute’s silence for Jim McLean, the ex D. Utd STRIKER – FFS!

They then say Utd could have had a penalty and show the incident. Funnily enough I don’t remember them highlighting the 2 stonewall penalties Hibs should have had at the weekend. They give me the boak and it would be the sweetest victory ever if we could do the 10 and ram their right down their biased throats!

By the way Sevco’s goals were jammy as feck whilst I thought we played very well at times today. Soro and Turnbull must be the first 2 names on the team sheet for Saturday.

  23. Listening to Neil post match.

Barkas is number 1. Huns game to much enormity for Connor’s fledgling career.

FFS he’s 22 years old with a national cup final medal.

How do you attain the so called necessary experience?

No wonder good young players want to leave us and Lennoxtown does not propel players to the first team.

    This ageist attitude must change.

    HH.

  24. BADA BING

Sutton did the same against the hun , when we were already down to 10 men.

I have never forgiven him for that

  25. Hell has a special place for professional footballers who’s self belief exceeds their ability

    Absolute scum

  26. We should get chances on Saturday it’s about taking them as the Huns have all the luck going and an unseen helping hand.

Watched sportscente and their goals were jammy to say the least. St mirren had the same amount of shots on goal as huns.

Our games was 3 going on 7 or 8 so we are still due to click with end product and saturday is a good day to start.

  27. CELTIC MAC

    There sure is :>

I only wish the whisky liked me as much as I like it, been the bane of my life a fair few times that I decided to give it a body swerve, I must say that a decent substitute is the rinny tin tin, I get kinda mellow on it as opposed to a complete and utter twat with the whisky, I would fight with my shadow on the whisky, no other beverage does that to me, strange but true.

    HH

  28. Jeezo, just imagine if we actually hump them big time at the weekend, that would be a seriously decent start to the year so it would, and we could, no doubt about it, if we turn up they have problems, it’s up to us, been a while since we actually decided to turn up against them so we are due a turn me thinks…here’s hoping and praying.

Lol rc we get you dont like him.

nice wee concise made up tale tho about juliens back injury, the sort of ragin havering that suddenly becomes a fact when things go against the team.

But you already state we cant change it.

So lets make do.he was part of a tight defence last year and thro injury(ex tonights) and is part of a defence that is improving
