Their sources may be right. They may be wrong.

But my mates in Kilwinning can tell you that the stadium which was once the best in Britain is a f…..g mess.

Many of these guys work in construction. When you see rust stains of about three or four feet beside bolts,it’s time to worry about them.

The grandfather of this child is a good friend of mine, and also of a few other CQNers.

I am not entirely sure he will thank me for this, but if anyone would like to utter a plea for intercession, well,I know he’d be grateful. Even if he disnae admit it!

    It’s what we do.

His first grandchild,a young couple’s first child. He’s already been baptised,so uncertain is his future.

With regards to the “Crumbledome” issue, as much as I have no doubt of the power and influence of those who follow Sevco and are willing to do their bidding, I cannot for one minute contemplate certificates of safety being passed just to keep Ibrox open. God help us if that were to be the case.

  4. As a Govan Bhoy can I just clarify that R*ngers didn’t play in Govan and nor do Sevco….Govan Tims get upset at them being referred to as a Govan club

Ragers supporting friend of mine says that he has no worries about the costs of repairing the roofs. He say’s nothing other than ‘It’s a listed building mate’.

I said the front facade might be listed but the metal work of the roofs will not be.

    ‘Listed building mate, listed building….’

I can only assume that he believes that the cost of fixing it will not need to come from the clumpany…

I don’t disagree with that at all.

As you say let’s hope it is just exaggeration.

  7. Saint Stivs says SACK THE BOARD on

    Listed building. Lol.

The main stand Edwardian toilet block facade built 1920s is in better condition than the 3 Murray steel structures.

Ignoring the problem. Just plodding on. It will end badly.

Leaving partisan feelings aside. No risks should be taken. I wouldn’t take my kids there.

    Such is modern politics.

And there’s no one better at it than the nats.

BTW I’m still waiting for someone to tell me which new posters appeared advocating a no vote.

I honestly can’t think of any.

Absolutely, and the widespread nature lends credence to the rumour that they have been scrimping on maintainence work on the stadium over the last few years.

However, in this day in age surely there’d be pictorial evidence if there was that degree of rusting? It wouldn’t be in anyones interests to keep that quiet.

  10. For the avoidance of doubt, dear reader, Phil’s ramblings should be read with a very large pinch of salt.

  11. LENNON18

Spot on mate, too many on here refer to them as Govan this Govan that, Edmiston Dr never has or never will be in Govan, the clue is in the name of the stadium.

  12. First time Celtic play Rangers at Ibrox (see wot I did there) Celtic fans should all wear hard hats, ala beach ball Sunday. Would highlight any issues, though Dave King says all is ok, why should anyone doubt him?

My mates don’t even feel comfortable talking to me about it.

Posting stuff like that on social media would get them baurt fae the ludj!

Not kidding btw. One of them in particular has boardroom access a fair few times a season. That topic of discussion is aired regularly.

We just worry about the quality of the catering.

Dave King canny wait for your first ever game against us at Ibrox.

He’s gonna hit us with one helluva bill for repairs.

If I was in charge of Celtic-there’s a thought!-I’d be sending in a team of photographers on the morning of the game.

I was going to say the same of the Yes commentators.

Ultimately I think the only folk that commented with any level of rationality for either side are still here.

I’m sure if either side could be bothered they could go back and find comments one way or the other from people we don’t see much of any more (if at all).

Lives are at risk if its as bad as they say, though. I’d have thought other people have access to Ibrox too that don’t necessarily support Rangers, caterers etc, so it’d take a fairly big cover up job to hide rust in different parts of the ground….

If its as bad as they say they need to get the information out there, even if it is anonymously. A picture speaks a thousand words…

  17. AULD TAM

A pinch of salt yes I agree, but King himself has admitted that the stadium is in need of repair in three of the stands, so could be a case of there’s no smoke and so on, personally it’s not a thing that will hurt me at all, as I don’t go near the toxic sheet hole, nor will I go to Celtic Park to watch cheats, and until that has been proven officially I never will, but concerns for those who do go for they’r safety must be a priority, and shouldent be left aside for every one to wonder, it should be brought out in the open, and not have to wait 20 years like Hillsboro to find out who the culprits are, if God forbid Anything does happen, it’s the 21 cent. No more cloak and dagger stuff here, people’s life’s are at stake here IMO.

I would take the comments with a hefty dose of salt-the kind TALLYBHOY likes in his pasta!-if they were only from sources on our side.

    But they aren’t.

And JohnJames in particular names firms which have been involved in surveys. And when they took place.

He has had to remove one or two items before, but not these.

    Ask yourself this:

If you were the officer charged with passing/failing the Sevco Crumbledome, would you be prepared to be the one who signs off on a “FAIL”?

Every single person who has even a passing recollection of the events surrounding this long running saga will be only too aware of the fate which will befall anyone who dares to even express an opinion. What would they inflict on the person who effectively shuts down their holiest shrine, possibly for good?

Most certainly, all sorts of pressure will be brought to bear to ensure a pass certificate is issued.

    ____

    Rubbish.

If you knowingly sign off on something unsafe you are risking your job and prison.

Why do we care about the ibrox stadium? Do you guys think for a second they are concerned? Save your energy for when the cheating starts. If there is an issue I am sure they will sneak their way out of it.

If you are concerned about ibrox do not go. Their board will be to blame if they are hiding anything.

This Sinclair business is rambling on.

    Thank you,mate.

I’ll be contacting our correspondent in The Philippines to ask him for one of his specials.

Long story, but it seems that as long as we ask for altruistic rather than personal reasons,we get a favourable ear!

    Aye,I know. Pure coincidence.

    But maybe not that often…

Yeah, theres little doubt it needs some serious maintainence, but if theres the amount of rust your friends suggest I don’t know how they are hiding that from 30-50k people with cameras in their pockets, pretending its all ok won’t make it go away but I’m sure they know that?!

  23. Why do some bother about the state of the Stands in Ibrox stadium. Cheap jibe if you ask me,if supporters life’s are at stake.then insuring the stadium is deemed to have a safety certificate. is what is more important and our main stand.isnt, fit for purpose. This isa celtic blog.im just interested in all things Celtic. To much Sevco talk on here.

More than happy to bid a fond good riddance to Professor Ranieri & His Travelling Medicine Show. Don’t come back.

I’ve used the analytics data source below to establish our winning strategy for Wednesday – win the toss then choose to attack the China end. That’ll keep the sun behind us first half before it dips below the horizon at half-time. No charge, Brendan. I’ll leave the easy stuff for you to work on.

  25. I too hope the Ibrox safety issue is exaggerated but with King, who knows? I find it hard to believe that GSAG would pass an unsafe stadium regardless of connections, winks and nods, however as TD67 says, it’s not the first time GCC have been connected (in rumour) with funding maintenance/repairs).

  26. So, the pink third kit rumour was true. Apparently inspired by the colour of the 1967 European Cup Final ticket.

Hmm. The programme for that game, if memory serves, had yellow and (gulp) blue on it. What next – a blue away kit, ‘inspired by the cover of etc etc etc…’

It’s not a Third Kit, it’s a leisure top. And not the kind worn by old guys like me!

Well! I suppose it gives PL and the board a Wee rest, but to ignore these things IMO is dangerous, it’s like ignoring “it’s the same club” I know that’s a pain in the arse topic too, but with some things you have to be vigilant, but with thems? It’s most things ignore them at your perl, I say.

  30. We’re trying to get Sinclair for bargain prices. Villa know that he has the quality to get goals in the Championship and won’t sell.

Let’s reflect on the reports that Ross McCormack is being touted for a 13 million move to Norwich from Fulham. This is after a previous move of 11 million from Leeds to Fulham.

    CRAZY.

  31. Celtic PLC-Hierarchy will pay for the ibrokes roof.

Just watch for ‘unexpected’ levels of debt appearing

on the balance-sheet just before the AGM.

    Then again,…..

    FF

    Vic 67

Ki….etc, were sold for upwards of £50 million and yet,

as far as I can see….most of that dough must still be

kicking around the ole biskit tin….imho.

So, as has been the case with all the – the huns have till the end of the moth to find x-amount stories….they always escape the noose, don’t they ?

Aye, Rodgered is the new watch word.

    Margaret McGill – CSC.

  32. I can’t see Ibrox being given its safety certificate unless it was okay.

I would imagine the situation to be one where it is in need of constant repairs, i.e. constantly being patched up rather than a more long term solution. This is a bad situation however, as these costs will only increase over time and the your asset is devalued as more and more as more and more major work is required. Proper property asset management would employ a ‘spend now to save later’ strategy but you need money to do this.

I would imagine they are doing what they need to keep it safe and functional in the short term, individually these costs are probably not too substantial but do add up. It’s kind of like having a lots of credit card debt, making minimum payments and kicking the can along the street, but is ultimately very costly in the long term and huge liability hanging over you.
