    My heart wants to see Celtic playing in the CL, my head is thinking this season a wee run in the EL would be better for building the team, building confidence and getting RD’s system working.

     

     

    Maybe it will all click, would love to be wrong but as we currently are, in the group stage of CL playing a top European side would be from behind the couch through my fingers!

    Why do we keep trying to put crosses into the box when we have not only no height in there ,

     

    But only ONE small player to try and win it.

    They are not doing basics because they are either too excited or Maribor are doing better tactically.

     

     

    Ronny still has the power to actually talk to players from his technical area and perhaps take steps to rectify the things that are wrong.

     

     

    Lots of poor passing and decision making but either the players not doing what they are meant to be doing or Maribor are all over his tactics.

     

     

    This is clearly not working and i am happy….or relieved that it is 0-0

    The tone of the blog has certainly changed since pre-match. We looked good out there because they stood off us and left us have the ball. They have got about us in this game harrying us all over the field and so far we don’t have an answer. We were lucky that Gordon’s parried save rebounded back to him. Very very worried.

    Remember Lennon teams were slow starters, he put fire in their belly at half time. We are just about to find out about Ronny’s metal. Berget is heavy legged and needs to improve or be replaced. Thunder please

    Whoever thought that Bergets was a player,sorry.A clone of Derk without the pace.Woeful.Izzy,sorry,times up.Looks like his laces are tied together at times.Stokes having one of his lazy days.When we cant afford it.Efe being Efe and doing stupid things,in the wrong areas.Johansen running around,usually on the wrong side of the ball.Mc Gregor,giving the “Experienced” players a showing up.

     

    No bite,no passion,no goal threat,sloppy passing.If we win this,we will be doing well.

    Have we worked that keeper at all?

     

     

    Absolutely awful stuff. Lack of a decent striker to hold the ball is going to come home to roost here.

     

     

    Too many water carriers in midfield. No creativity, no cutting edge.

     

     

    Izzy and ambrose atrocious whenever they have been in a crossing position.

     

     

    Hope we can sort this at half time. The alternative is unthinkable.

    HT Celtic 0-0 Maribor

     

     

    Very disappointed in that 1st half performance. We have struggled to string more than a few passes together. Maribor look much more comfortable on the ball, and seem to find it very easy to get it back when we have it.

     

     

    Defensively we have looked solid. Virgil excellent again and Lustig doing any tidying up that is necessary. Efe and Johansen have lost possession in bad areas for us. Berget looks lost on the wing. We are missing Commons in the middle as we have no creativity. Would like to see him on and us bringing the game more through the middle. Young McGregor looks lively. Stokes is a passenger although he has had very poor service. We desperately need anew centre forward.

     

     

    The only consolation is that we have restricted them to very few opportunities but I don’t know how long we can keep that up.

     

     

    Ronny needs to find a way to get us better organized, get more possession and more threatening up front.

     

     

    Going to be a nervy 2nd 45.

    That was tough.

     

     

    We edged the first 20 minutes but they edged the second part of the half.

     

     

    They have stifled our areas of superiority in the first tie by denying us many corners or free kicks, and also by pressing our back line more energetically than they did when they were at home.

     

     

    Though it is a scrappy game, it is a high intensity scrappy game. They cannot keep this up and I am confident that when Commons and/or Griffiths come on, they will have more room than poor Stokesie has had.

     

     

    We need to shoot more, win more corners and free kicks, and score before they do.

    We are in this game by the skin of our tweth and no more.

     

     

    No area of the team is functioning, and a number of players individually are quite awful.

     

     

    Concerned. Sort it out Ronny. Fast. You’ve got 45 minutes to get this team through.

    We’re obviously still ahead, but desperate for a goal, because we’re dreading a last 10 minutes with it still 0-0!

     

     

    WGS says Maribor have been more positive than anyone expected.

    Berget looks dangerous around their box but it doesn’t look like he has the speed or skill to retain possession when the ball reaches him wide on the wing.

    Dalglish spot on. We’re dropping back and putting zero pressure on the man in possession. Marking space and letting them run through us.

    I’ll admit, I’m one of the guys who wasn’t happy with 10 changes at Inverness.

     

    We don’t have a good enough first 11 to rest so many yet.

     

    Our first 11 needed game time at Inverness, especially the defence.

    Playing far too deep and inviting them on to us. Same old high ball into the middle to a short forward. Play Berget as target man if we use these tactics. Charlie being found out at this level and it’s not even a high level.

    This Celtic team is a million miles away from being a Champions league team.

     

    We played much better in the first leg. At Celtic Park we should not be letting a team like Maribor threaten our CL place.

    Nothing for the defenders to pass out to and they keep trying to play but only play into trouble. their MF always first to react to the ball played up. Wee mcgregor great but not seeing anyone else want it. izzy picking up from last week… And stokes.. Nowhere. This game seems like the type where we would need a tireless Kenny Misser type running his arse off around their back line as they pass the ball around him. Yes I really did just say that. Not enjoying this one bit.

    RD has went for height with Lustig in defense. Get Denayer on, Lustig back out right. Efe off, Johanson off and KC on.

    Thanks to all CQNers for the live updates. It can’t be easy trying to type when your nerves are shot.

     

     

    Sounds like a pretty disjointed first half. I can’t comment on the players or tactics as I haven’t watched any of it but it feels similar to the first leg – Maribor expected to win that comfortably and got a shock. Similar for us tonight?

     

     

    But this mob need to score in the 2nd half.

     

     

    Keep the faith.
