Highlights of their game yesterday highlighted something else. There was a lot more at their game than we had at ours. Is success making us blase` or do we have more supporters boycotting SFA games?

As we commence a week of cringeworthy hype for the meeja’s favourite boys in bloo, is anyone else reminded of the week preceding Samaras Sunday???

I would like to think it was more of our fans boycotting SFA games but I suspect it’s got more to do with the fact that our supporters have had to cough up a lot more money for European games and by the time it gets to this stage of the season have to pick and choose their matches.

I suspect it’s a number of factors. Our supporters have, for 2 seasons now, forked our an awful lot of money on season books, CL tickets, EL tickets and we have competed in every round of the Scottish and League cups.

There must be an awful lot of our support who really have to tighten the purse strings to subsidise all of this. I’d guess 2 x season tickets, 2 x CL seasons and all of the cup ties must have cost about £2k . If children’s tickets are included, maybe another 50% can be added.

It must stretch the budget? I’d think if you were looking to save a few ££ then an early kick off in freezing conditions, with the game shown on TV makes it an easy decision for some, and a painful but necessary decision for others.

Next year with 4 qualifying rounds for CL, a potential increase in season ticket prices and general inflation costs on other household expenses, the financial commitments will ramp up even more.

    Just my thoughts….

  6. M6 bhoy

    I agree bud.

If it was simply SFA related, the scramble for cup final tickets wouldn’t be as painful. I do accept however that the SFA will be a reason for some.

We’ve been forking out funny money all season ( CLqualifiers, Group Stages, Europa League, League Cup)- there are certain games that you have to make a decision on whether to pay more or not Theres only so much the finances will stretch to- especially when games are at a silly k.o on live telly. I won’t go to the semi final either.

Reasonable thoughts which are certainly possible. Like M6 , I would like to think it was a boycott but like TNT, I think it involves several factors with it being on TV in poor weather a major contributor.

I think a number of people might have boycotted the match due to previous bad memories v Morton.

Maybe just me,of course, but my soul is still scarred by that night. I had to be persuaded even to watch it on the telly on Saturday.

    It’s a stunning report,absolutely damning.

    Here’s the rules,don’t break them.

    Ok,we haven’t.

But they hardly abided by them, did they? Rules is rules, nothing you can do,but I think everyone involved is now tarnished beyond repair. And deservedly so.

  15. Joe Filippis Haircut on

Well I believe we have two very hard games coming up against the huns in my opinion there is no doubt they have closed the gap between us the question is by how much.I would say in the last six weeks or so we have looked disjointed and we have laboured in many of our games while across the city the huns have been free scoreing for fun.We need to get our form back and quickly it is good that we are getting injured players back but unfortunately they are unlikely to be match fit. So a draw at ibrox for me would be a good result and we can then concentrate on our semi final with them at Hampden.I know that CQN will think this post is nonsense but that is how I see things for us at the moment. H.H.

  17. Brogan Rogan Trevino and Hogan on

    Good Morning Folks.

It will be interesting to see how much gusto is left in the Sevco sails after the game at ibrox.

A victory for us makes the league all but won in my opinion, builds a platform for us for the cup and tears a hole in the mainsail of the Sevco boat.

A draw all but seals the league as well, I think, but gives them a flicker of hope for the cup game to come.

A Sevco win, still leaves us in the driving seat re the league but will undoubtedly give them a boost for the cup and perhaps will give us a shake and a boot up the arse if it is needed for both league and cup.

I do not see this last scenario as we are a far better team and other than against Aberdeen Sevco have struggled when they meet good teams such as Hibs. However, there is no doubting that a bit of momentum and belief can enhance a team.

We need to rely on Brendan and our captain to drill it into our team that we are about to play two of our most important games of the season in the next 5 weeks or so. If we have the league sown up by the time of the semi final then I believe all the psychological pressure is on Ibrox as a loss in the semi leaves them trophyless and deflated with a very VERY difficult close season coming up.

They are holed below the water line financially and legally, and while the ship is sinking slowly at the moment it will start to list heavily as we approach May and into June when they have to meet various contractual obligations for which they have, and will have, no money unless someoene else ponies up yet more “flush down the lavvy” money.

There is also an internecine war going on within the boardroom there and a failure to win anything will open up fresh chasms and unleash heightened strategies to rid the ship of Captain King.

None of that is really of any interest to Celtic, only winning is our focus.

We will have players returning to fitness and should be able to call on areally exciting squad.

Brendan’s job is to get them hungry, really hungry.

And he should be prepared for the Ibrox pitch being narrowed to cut out width. With that in mind I agree with those who say that we have to win the midfield. That was their strongest card when they last came to Celtic Park. Boss the midfield and we march to the treble.

Celtic have struggled too against good teams like Hibs.

  19. I would never underestimate any Orc team at Mordor and I don’t thin Brendan will either but let’s not get carried away with the wave of optimism that’s currently popular in Scotland about them.

They have been decent against teams who offered little or no resistance, St Johnstone and Aberdeen come to mind, they also had their World Cup Final tussles against Partick but put them against a well organised team like Hibs or Kilmarnock and you’ll see a very different performance from them.

They move the ball a lot quicker than before through the midfield and they have a couple of decent players but defensively they’re still terrible and if we get at them I see no reason why we can’t kelp them again in their own midden!

They’ll be up for it of course Jimmy Nichols influence is quite clear there but our class should see us through.

A draw would see the release of their Summer DVD, Murtinho The Draws against Celtic, let’s not offer them that little earner:))

Hoops to triumph by sheer weight of class!

  20. Gents,

I agree , if we play to our potential we will win both games providing our attitude is correct.

But it would be absolute folly and complacent if we totally dismissed any team who have scored more goals than we have.

  21. What is the Stars on

My take on next week is this

They have improved since we last played them and they might have won that day ( that said we should have had the game sown up by half time)

They are on a roll, confidence is high and confidence is a huge factor in football.

Their fans believe in them and will get behind them …

But most importantly this game means everything to them

Win and they are back in the league title chase

My only advice to Brendan is simply

They’ve scored three more than us,and conceded nearly twice as many. I’m quite happy with those stats, even if not ecstatic.

    SCIPIO PLOUGH

And wht have the Carthaginians ever done to you?

  24. Last year Sinclair, Armstrong, Griffiths, Roberts & Dembele were outstanding for us. Sinclair seems to have lost his confidence & the other 4 have had season disrupted by injury.

It is little wonder that we haven’t reached the heights of last season but we still qualified for Champions League Group Stage and the Treble is still very much on.

Dembele is back & Roberts on verge of a return, whether he will make an instant impact or not remains to be seen.

Re the other mob yes they appear to have improved but we just need to focus on ourselves, we clearly are the better team, if we play anyway close to our potential we will win next Sunday.

Agrees. The stats could prove to be an indication of how the game will go next week.

They are poor at the back and their greatest threat is to attack.

  27. Is there any chance of Paddy getting a run out before the hun game with the development squad?

  28. Philbhoy

There is a game down at Kilmarnock tomorrow, on the plastic pitch mind you. There will probably be a full size training match this week, he would get more from that.

  29. What a gesture by Fiorentina to renew the contract from their late captain with the proceeds going to his widow and daughter.

What an example in the days of corporate greed. Even Neg2 would surely agree.
