    Silly comments…… Night all…

  2. Tut tut NO Excuses

Just in from the humiliation and won’t hang about too long as no doubt the Happy Clappers will be defending the the indefensible

When a team with our resources cannot turn over a team of part timers over 120 minutes somebody has to be big enough to shoulder the blame

    Ps HT

Your going have an even harder job shifting those spare Kilmarnock tickets now

Absolutely gutted with result, unbelievable really but happy for Morton’s assistant manager and ex Celt Mark McNally.

    Good guy.

  4. viewfaethewindae on

    Well done Morton.

Did we just play 4-5-1 against Morton at Celtic Park?

Poor performance, looking forward to the weekend, night all.

    Go on you Celts.

    Nice try

Same manager said many things about acceptable entertainment for the fans

Dress tonight up how you like …it’s an appalling , if all to familiar , show

Blame the fans if you want…….personally I think the under performing manager and players are to blame

    Overpaid and unprofessional

    Right I’m over it now

Just one of many bumps on the road to glory

Plenty of food for thought for our management team after a night like that – let’s them see who will hide and who will fight

    Lets hope they learn

Night all & remember when we wake up in the morning we’ll still have our history and they’ll still be dead B-)

Can’t score goals against Milan, can’t score goals against Morton. At least we’re versatile and consistent in the art of not being able to score goals.

  8. Tonight’s result not particularly shocking with the coaching limitations we have.

I posted last week after the Milan game that everyone was going overboard in praise despite the reality we lost to a poor team and hardly created a single save from their goalie.

Said our obsession with negative possession was misleading and pointless.

Our coach has to start learning about positive possession.

Saturday and tonight were perfect examples of such.

Lots of meaningless passing and possession.

Coaching has to be more complete and less one dimensional for us to go forward.

  9. A total and utterly disgraceful performance,2 hours

at CP and could not score a goal against the mighty

Morton………did not start the game with the right

    attitude, unforgivable……..really pissed off,never

mind plenty money in the bank.

I am entitled to post in defence of the club I love and support financially being a long time ST holder. I have witnessed more good results than bad ones in my lifetime. You are welcome to your opinion, so do not denigrate mine. Yours in Celtic.

  11. Congrats to morton…..winning every game is not sportsmanship…..all these new bloggers appeared from nowhere ……full of criticism……probably the same ones who sit around you at the CL games …..here today gone tomorrow……

  12. Did someone say 20,000 tonight ? More like 12-14,000.

Lacklustre performance from a team, support and club who didn’t turn up, then got desperate and sought out someone to pin the blame.

  13. Just back, a very disappointing performance, only sense of urgency was when it was too late, some real poor displays neatly summed up buy 2 things, Matthews putting the ball out at that throw in on the left and Lustig playing the ball inside his own box from a Zaluska free kick- ref orders a retake- then he wanted to do it again.

Wont increase my grand total of 2 League Cup triumphs this season.

    Well done Morton, gutsy performance.

  14. ....PFayr supports WeeOscar on

With our lack of firepower and inability to keep a clean sheet I fear for Tuesday night

Hopefully , my fears are unfounded and we’ll put on a performance that will fill the players with confidence and carry us forward

  15. Papa John supports Wee Oscar on

Jist back, and I thought that Milan got there tactics right as they applied themselves better to the big stage, and our lads will play better against the likes of Morton in the coming months, when they can pass to one another and change there attitude when playing teams that are better than them.

Where,s Ma Tablets double dose required, whit wis that aboot the Ramsden Cup Oh maybe next season.

Setting free the bears , turn up

Any Celtic fan worth their salt would criticise that garbage

We have a puppet as a manager who contractual bonus is linked to financial KPIs

We have a manager who has failed multiple times starting from throwing the league away at ICT , Killie, St Mirren, hearts, plus others. Tonight is the lowest of the low.

He never motivated the team. He didn’t not buy a creative player. Pedro bought a forward not a striker. Fingobasson should have been bought instead if of Pukki and Balde.

Lenny should be sacked for what is gross incompetence tonight. Hopefully he does the decent thing and resigns.

I don’t think any zombie will say worse than that about our illustrious manager. I want him out.

    Hun rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrocket!

Go back to the ranks of the Penny Dreadful.

  17. The last time Morton scored against Celtic in a competitive match was during a 2-4 defeat (for them) in this very competition on the 21st August 1991.

The last time Morton scored against Celtic at Celtic Park was during a 1-3 defeat (for them) in the SPL on the 10th October 1987.

The last time Morton won at Celtic Park was the 28th April 1969, just two days after Jock Stein’s side had clinched the treble by beating a now defunct club 4-0 in the Scottish Cup Final.

Ach well, onwards and upwards… there’s an important game to look forward to on Saturday, against a team who beat us 2-0 at Celtic Park last season!

  18. BigChipsUK – There are only two SPL teams in Glasgow… Celtic and Partick Thistle

Cultsbhoy (22:35), agreed. The players and coaching staff should have their wages docked and put into the pot to reimburse the ticket price of those who attended tonight.

What a load of unadulterated cobblers!

if you go to see a movie and it’s tosh, do you expect the actors to have a whip round and send it up to your gaff?

We don’t care if we win lose or draw, is not much in evidence on here tonight.

  20. We could have had 127 corners and we wouldn’t have scored. Team set up for corners is/was completely wrong. Try putting guys in the 6 yard box who are actually in excess of 6 feet tall. Some guys were going on about a striking coach last week, they need to be taught how to actually head a ball. 6′ + player standing on the goalie’s toes might have helped, their keeper will not get an easier game this season. All he had to do and did was catch the ball, unchallenged, and fall to the ground for 10-20 seconds. I have watched the YouTube footage of Biton and he is a box to box midfielder, so why play him as a defensive midfielder tonight?

As regards the penalty, never a penalty the ball played his hand when he was on the ground and impossible for him to move his hand away, but we would have taken it.

I’ve said it before and I’m saying it again, we need a creative midfield player and a big strong centre forward/target man. Rolling out Finnbogasson every game is becoming tedious, he wouldn’t have scored tonight either as the service to the strikers was woeful. I certainly wouldn’t have hooked Dylan he was playing well, big Derk was less than poor and should have made way for Matthews, but hey what do I know? As regards Morton, well done but out in the next round.

  21. Never realised the semis and final weren’t at Hampden! It’ll probably be at a bottom tier clubs ground now to throw them a few pence.

    Bigchipsuk

I never saw all those shots on target! I cant remember their keeper making any decent saves of note. I thought Saturday was the best we’ve played for a long while. Quick passing and movement off the ball but again very few real chances. All the plaudits in Milan but big Fraser made more saves than their keeper.

I really can’t get wound up about the League Cup though. I understand why others do, but I posted the other week we should be blooding our youngsters in this tournament. I watched them perform well in Dublin versus a strong Liverpool. Give them the opportunity or what’s the point of “Development” squad?

  22. Billy Bhoy supports wee Oscar on

My first game was the 1971 LCF. God, I HATE this competition!

I’m starting to think we’ve got our own 5 way agreement that as soon as Sevco are eliminated from a Cup (which doesn’t take long these days) we depart the scene and let the wee diddy teams slug it out.

Spare a thought for the slimy sevcovians – tonight will be the high point of their season!

  23. Why do people keep mentioning “the balance sheet” and “we’ve got money in the bank” in a sarcastic way while attacking the club?

Celtic are legally obliged to publish annual accounts and it seems the club is being attacked by so-called Celtic supporters because the results were positive. What do you want the club to do, produce false accounts showing that we’re in dire financial straits? Would that appease the morons bringing the accounts up constantly?

Or would you prefer us to be like Sevco and not release accounts at all?

  24. Sandman no Hun rocket , 2 season tickets in 440

    Just don’t rate our manager.

Plenty other good tims don’t rate him either and want him out.

Does not make you a Hun.

Out of the country tonight , was going to go on sat but now have an excuse to not live Killie the money

Will support the team from the blarney in Berlin on Tuesday….but I still want Lenny out. Plenty of other business guys I know feel the same way. I hope he takes the Sunderland job. I will drive him myself seeing he lost his licence.

Failure after failure is not acceptable

  25. I can accept defeat in any game, that what happens in competitive sport, but what I find embarrassing is pumping high balls up to a centre defender playing as a striker for a large period of a game, when a striker we have paid good money for is sitting on the bench.Why.?

Who is to blame for this debacle,? Why does the manager not play him?

  26. Big Georges Fan Club - Hail, Hail, Wee Oscar on

That’s me and Wee BGFC just in from the game – won’t bother reading back to hear the hyberbole.

For what it’s worth – we played poor for 2/3 of the game – back to the side-to-side passing. Always difficult to step up the pace when you start slow, and I think starting with all of the new signings (apart from Balde) was, in hindsight admittedly, a mistake on Neil’s part.

Of the new signings, on VVD looked good, which he has done consistently – so far our best purchase by a county mile.

Biton struggled to find a Celtic jersey all night – looked a wee bit better late on in the game, but only a teeny wee bit.

Derk never went past anyone all night – totally ineffectual.

Pukki – spent all night hiding behind the nearest defender – extremely poor and disappointing. Completely ineffective – one of the poorest performances I have seen from a Celtic attacker.

As for the rest – Efe, Charlie, wee Dylan got good pass marks – the rest were below par. Subs should have been on at half time.

Word for the Morton crowd – there were thousands of them! Only blighted by the fact that all of their songs seem to be sung to the tune of ditties of yon deid club – Hello, Hello, etc.

Anyway – such is the life of a Celtic supporter – 20 steps forward, one step back!!

    Onward to Killie.

  27. Evening all

Just waiting for my train home after the match

Thought playing 5 midfield players at home to Morton was one too many and I’d certainly have had Stokes on for the start of the 2nd half instead of halfway through it. Been used to stinking performances in this cup for over 40 years but they are still annoying. Tactically Morton got it right and although some of our misses near the end beggared belief they were worthy winners.

Rogic actually did ok in the first half bit he looks a bit more comfortable starting further back. I thought McGeouch was ok but like others I suspect he is always going to be a ‘nearly man’

Of far greater concern was the form of three of our recent signings- Biton is weak and unproductive, Pukki was

anonymous tonight as he was for the last 70 minutes on Saturday,

    Boerrigter is timid, unimaginative and

for a supposed speed merchant he

isn’t very quick. I know wee James

Forrest is inconsistent but I’d rather

have him in my team than DB.

I don’t like being negative and know that in the grand scheme of things tonight is far from catastrophic. But we were lousy and deserve to be criticised.

  28. We have signed two strikers that wont score 20 goals between them this season, and yet people on here just wont admit it.John Park should be shipped out to Karagandy every time we are looking at strikers. He would not know one if he found one in his soup.Defenders, wonderful, midfielders, good, forwards,I give you,

Murphy,Brozek,Bangura,Balde, the two from Spain last season. We are now looking at a S American freeby, who doesnt seem to score goals.WTF.The same guy looked at Finnbogason, and thought he was not worth more than £3 million.Clueless on this front.

If you cant put the ball in the net you wont win games.A fact lost on our management team.

Hoopers only come along once in a blue moon. The others cost a bit more than we think is fair.

  29. Pogmathonyahun aka Laird of the Smiles

Our players fail to attack the ball in the air. Also when we had VVD up front he won just about every header, but neither of the two forwards of Commons were close enough to feed off him. Two very basic footballing tenants.

  30. Stated on Friday that Saturday against St Johnstone and Saturday against Kilmarnock were the times to mess around with the team and play the First XI in the cup tie.

Sometimes good managers get it wrong just like in Karagandy the team selection was all wrong.

Next Tuesday swap Morton for Messi
