I had the honour of seeing both Bobby Murdoch and George Connelly play and they were, along with Jinky, the best Celtic players I ever watched.
Bobby was a magnificent footballer who controlled the game for Celtic and would have graced any club in Europe.
George Connelly was a fantastic player who had skill to burn. His “debut” at Celtic Park was in October 1966 when he came out at half-time and played keepy-uppy as he walked around the track beside the pitch. A tragedy that he was lost to football in his prime!
In today’s money the would both be worth over £50M each without a shadow of a doubt!

I agree with Cosy Corner Boy – a raffle with a price of £5 or £10 will net you far more than the £200 you are looking for.
I had the privilege of seeing all 3. Different class each one. Imo, Bobby was the most important. To think that in a 10 year period we had at least 5 of the very best players in the World, as I would add Kenny Dalglish and Danny McGrain to that list, as truly World Class.

PARKHEADCUMSALFORD, I would agree. Without the service from the midfield the forwards wouldn’t have had the possession or penetration.
Danny McGrain is the best full-back I have ever seen in the flesh. Hard as nails; I remember he fractured his skull in a game against Falkirk and I think he played on for a bit! Kenny was a magnificent servant to the Club as a player but I think he sullied his reputation a wee bit in his partnership with John Barnes.

Returning from the game on Saturday in the ACGRmobile, we listened to either the Cosgrove and Cowan programme or the one just before it. The general view was that Celtic were OK but not up to their usual standards of this season so far. Then, a guy who said he had not seen Celtic this season ( I think he has been working forTV in England), said he was surprised to hear these `average` comments as he thought Celtic had been superb. He thought we displayed great passing, great movement and could have won by seven or eight!
I found it very interesting to consider the difference between an `outsider`s` view and that of the local radio men.
I thought he sounded a bit like Mark Wilson. Did anyone else hear it?

ALASDAIR MACLEAN, I am a massive Bowie fan and had always been fascinated by his time in Berlin. I also found the division of Berlin and the fall of the Wall fascinating.
I was in Paris with my wife when Bowie dies: I was in tears as he had been a massive part of my life. Knowing I’d wanted to got to Berlin for these reasons she said she would take me for my birthday, So we had originally booked for May, but had to postpone because of a family crisis. We went in July and it was fantastic.
The David Bowie Tour is fascinating, even if you’re not a Bowie fan. It gives so much background to Berlin so I still reckon you’d enjoy it. I won’t say too much as it may spoil it if you decide to go! Let’s just say his music literally was a catalyst to the uprising that eventually brought the Wall down.
Topography of Terrors is a must see as well; it’s very uncomfortable but a great example of Man’s inhumanity to Man. The Memorial to the Sinti and Roma Victims of National Socialism near the Brandenburg Gate is small but well worth a visit as is the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe. Berlin and Germany have a very dark past, but it is no longer avoided by the Germans.
The East Side Gallery is a great wee walk and the artwork on the remaining part of the Wall is uplifting.
Finally, the boat trips are nice and relaxing but worth it.
It’s a fantastic place; the only downside of Germany for me is that the local food is pretty much a lump of under-seasoned meat with spuds and veg. Every German city I have visited has left me cullinarily (is that a word?) underwhelmed. But their beer is fantastic!

Much appreciated – my wife was researching and these are the things she was coming up with…apart from the Bowie tour….I’ll mention that to her.
Not sure if I’ve told this story before here but…
In 1989 I was sharing a flat in Aberdeen with a good friend of mine. He worked 2 on 2 off a a roughneck. On his 2 weeks off he would often tour Europe on his bike. Long story, but we shared a communal camera….bought on a Scotland away trip. Anyway, he happened to be in Berlin not long before the wall came down and had photos of himself and the bike at it.
After the wall came down, these photos became irreplaceable…..and he would ask me where the film that was in the camera was. It took me years to admit that at a wedding in Oban at the end of the summer, while drunk I couldn’t figure out how to get a finished film out of the camera and had hit on the bright idea of disengaging the safety catch by removing the battery…..which allowed me to then open the door….removing the film which unravelled like an uncoling spring…..Even in the mists of drink I knew everything on that film was gone forever and I have a memory of it flying into the bin behind bar.
He and his wife were home a few months ago…and he’s still casting it up.
