I presume your dad is from Dublin. Both shelbourne and shamrock rover’s were originally from Ringsend, Dublin and would have been fierce rivals in the 30s 40s and 50s

It was that Dessybhoy & Pat Nevin that compared KT to Danny….. Am happy that KT is better than Izzy (& I think Izzy was magic for us) am more of a Mark Reid left back with Darius Wydywock (sic) and Tosh McKinlay as decent lefties
Growing up I was more of a Chris Morris fan at full back, canny remember Danny too much but love everything he done for us (my Da also loved him after George Connolly)
Must have been about 2006 or so, game at Dallymount against Rovers, there was an slight altercation, all of a sudden a bunch of Rovers supporters started charging towards the Bohs support led by a bloke who must have been well into his 50s, it was actually quite funny but serious all the same, I was a SB holder at Pats for a few years before coming here, saw some sights so I did.

I started going to rover’s games as a 6 year old. There are guys who I remember from then who are still going now, burbary caps etc, and still involved in fighting. I would imagine that it was one of them you saw that night . crazy, they may be bald or grey and have beer bellies but they never grew up

Whatever the reasons for John Park leaving, this elegant, courteous, steely quote from Brendan shows who is now in charge of ALL football affairs.
I loved the “I” in the last line – reverberates like a whiplash.
Building something special, is Brendan. Excited!

Rodgers confirmed he will be involved in the restructuring of the backroom staff at Celtic following the news on Friday that Head of Football Development John Park will leave the club after nine years.
He added: “I will be involved, very much so.
“I put on record my thanks to John. I’ve only been here a short period of time, but he’s been here for a number of years, so on behalf of myself and the club, officially, I thank him for his work here.
“Now I will look to put someone in place within that role.”

Somebody told me you could see maybe 50k there – now they’re only allowed 2k or so?

Yes I know what you mean. They could be decent blokes but they were/ are Rovers mad. I remember in 1978 going to dundalk for a cup replay on a Thursday night. Running battles all night at the game, windows in the bus smashed leaving dundalk. There was a gang from York Street flats who used to go to rover’s then. Mad bar stewards, ah the sweet innocence of youth

As much as rate Jinky and Henrik above Danny McGrain in the Celtic Hall of greats (McGrory the greatest), Danny remains in my opinion the only Celtic player who’d get into a world Xi of his time. He’s in the company of Cafu, Lahm (although further forward in a different system), Thuram, Zanetti, Vogts and two or three Italians. None however were better defensively than McGrain.
I also have HR’s contact details if that is who you refer to.

40,000 attended dalymount a couple of times. But that’s it packed. Standing like sardines on the terraces and even around the touchline. No health and safety then. In 1968 I was at a Waterford shamrock rover’s cup final with that type of crowd. I was 7. Strolled down from my house and paid in at the gate. Something similar for and Ireland Italy game in 1985. Very dangerous
