yes agreed…home teams so far have not had any great success

lets hope that chages for the next legs…only 1 last night and 2 tonight….very rare in CL…no matter in qualifiers or or groups

onward Celtic…a sneaky away goal will be nice

anyone have an assessment of our opposition that would suggest our passage is safe?

  2. 16 roads - Celtic über alles... on

Think the manager should start Saturday’s league match with a full strength team. There’s always a risk of players getting injured, however it is an opportunity for them to get a wee bit more game time in before the away fixture.

    HH.

  3. We will play 4-2-3-1 over there as usual, we will score and go through,of that i have No doubt…

hope he wasn’t covering all bases? :-)

  5. As much as I want to see Celtic playing two strikers,it is not going to happen.

With the present system Cifti is the one to play in these games,Griffith who I like, will come on and score goals late in the games, that’s how you play as a team.HH

    HT…R.D Interview

Same interview….Interviewer Ronny 1.0 will you need to score over there?

R.D we will score over there.

  7. Ronny said after match that Leigh was up all night with tooth pain and had to go to Dentist, who told him to cut down on the cakes. OK the thing about the cakes mightn’t be true.is

  8. My old man was at the game tonight….. And I’m currently watching the re run, 56mins in….

Think my dad has a Scott Brown agenda, says he needs to go to spec savers, and couldn’t pass water.

I’m watching the game just now, and as usual our captain is putting in some shift. Doing very little wrong.

    Just goes to show you.

  9. Corkcelt:

My thanks. Took a walk through town and located it (amongst others, one apparently not there anymore) the other night. Probs looked like I was casing the joint!

Will be there on Saturday. I’ll stand you a beer if you’re around.

  10. Assuming we finish the job next week, and that the teams with the apparent advantage after the first leg of all the other ties also prevail, then our potential opponents in the Play-off round (for Champions) would be as follows:

    BATE Borisov (Belarus)

    Skenderbeu Korce (Albania)

    FK Astana (Kazakhstan)

    Partizan Belgrade (Serbia)

    Molde FK (Norway)

So that’s another short hop to look forward to…

Of that lot I’d prefer Molde.

  11. fanad…,

And that is exactly what Ronny repeats, it’s about Celtic not about the players, it’s a team sport and the decisions are taken on how to get the best team performance. I’m inclined to go with that as he’s no been too far off the mark, however, going on the audience I rarely heard Johansen’s name mentioned tonight so, he must have put in some shift without kicking a ball, doubts creing in :) sack the board :)

  12. The Battered Bunnet on

Quite a mature performance tonight, I thought.

While we’re short of the unexpected up front, our midfield ran the show for most of the game, and I was pleased that we kept our full backs in line (well, 1 out of 2 at any rate) preventing Qarabag from getting into the space behind us.

Completely bewildered as to why Bitton was taken off. He did have a wobbly 5 minutes in the second half, but other than that, was by some distance the best player on the park, and was at the centre of pretty much everything we did well, both attack and defence.

Assuming he was injured, but would appreciate it if anyone can crack a light.

  13. LogigAl, Unfortunately I don’t live in Cork any more, so I won’t see you Sat but enjoy the game.

  14. How long is Leigh Griffiths going to put up with being our main goalscorer and being benched? Scott McDonald said tonight it would pee him off!

  15. Still a wee bit confused as to why the MotM was the first sub ?

    What’s that all about :)

  16. Canamalar

Jo H was man-marked/shadowed for most of the game – when LG/KC came on and he dropped deeper – he seemed to get more involved (mentioned).

Think you and your Da are both right. SB’s passing can leave a lot to be desired but he does put in some shift.

If he was brilliant at both he’d be playing for Barca. =))

  18. Jimthetim53

Not very long I suspect. The last thing we need is him getting restless

  19. Just in and having tea, thankful no sympathy required from spouse – relieved, but very much unconvinced as to the eventual outcome – if we are not fragile and not naive in the return, we have a chance – we struggle to score at home, so no great confidence we will do so away – on a knife-edge!

  20. the glorious balance sheet on

Tbb Bitton looked injured to me. He was grounded near the dugout at one point in the 2nd half, just after that he gave the ball a way cheaply a couple of times (unlike him), and minutes later he was taken off. Looked to me like he’d taken a dull one.

  21. Corkcelt:

I will. Hopefully more than tonight’s leaning out of the pub at a 68 degree angle to get mobile internet reception whilst stamping my feet like a 4 year old hyper-child.

  22. Jim/CultsBhoy, Did ye not read back, Griff was up all night with a toothache and had a dental appointment today. He obviously would have been a risk to start with.

  23. Praecepta,

I honestly heard him mentioned only for taking free kicks or giving away the ball, the audio made no mention of man marking, I hope your right.

Cheers for info, I want him to hit the same form as last season.

Happy with 1-0 and our host called it right!

Watched too many Celtic teams go out of Europe on away goals over the years.Tbh was fairly sure they would nick one at paradise making the task much, much harder next week. Now we have the whip hand and hope we have the nous to use it.

Some of their play-acting reminded me of Porto nonsense, just cannot abide the rolling about stuff, especially from players with decent talent; time-wasting when they might need every extra second next week & hell mend them.

Our bhoys putting together some nice moves, ball sticking better to these players for longer spells. Still too many stray passes and the same culprits, nevertheless much improvement on last term.

Understand why a few wanted Griff on from the start or as a replacement, but when you think about it, there is a very good reason why he is not being selected in front of the big Turk.

When you work it out….let me know, eh? :-)
