  1. Anyone who has read MON’s book would know that it is very, very very highly unlikely he would return to the Glasgow fishbowl, for family reasons.

It is just not going to happen. Move on.

We have a manager to find and a team to rebuild.

    HH.

  2. Watching the highlights on Sportscene last night reinforced what I had seen earlier in the day. A game we could have and should have won. Eddie and Elly had a positive impact and despite some of the criticism the former got on here he got himself in good positions to score in both halfs only for his team mates failure to find him. That said our opponents took seven points of nine off us this season so far and had that been reversed we’d still be in a title race. All in all though we find ourselves at level far below that of O’Neill, Strachan and Rodgers of only three years ago.

Oh and another thing, in a post match interview, Stephen Welsh referred to our in situ manager as “Kendo”, acceptable maybe if your last name is Nagasaki, but a sign perhaps that John Kennedy has not been seen as a serious professional, even by our younger players.

    Totally on the money.

That’s my point. MON hasn’t brought in a good player or “steadied a ship” for over twenty years. The fact he was talking Roy Keane up as a manager shows how out of touch he is.

O’Neill brought in top players but if there was one slight criticism at the time, it was that his scouting rarely ventured off these islands. He spent big and brought in top players from the EPL. That option no longer exists and we work in a very different environment to when he was managing. He can no longer go to Chelsea, Leicester, West Ham and sign their first-team players. He knew this when he left.

Modern-day Chris Sutton – probably someone like Havertz, misfiring at Chelsea. For Neil Lennon, maybe someone like Harvey Barnes. We need someone with a finger on the pulse that can tap into Eastern European and Scandinavian markets.

We’ve seen that if results are bad, nobody is bigger than the club and the fans will turn on a legend. Let’s leave MON’s legacy intact – not with banners and protests asking him to quit as the club lingers behind Sevco.

    Look forward, not backward.

  5. GREENPINATA on 22ND MARCH 2021 5:12 AM

True. He said as much on Sky yesterday. He doesn’t need it at this stage of his life and is already a legend. Why spoil it?

  6. Weebobbycollins on

Goodness me…just log on and he’s here still going on about Lennon. Have you finished your fireworks?

  7. Good morning CQN

The result yesterday did not reflect the superiority of the performance, our last two games under JK Celtic have been the dominant side, in both games stats show a total of 40 shots, 20 on target, and 19 corners all this bounty of opportunity reaped a meager harvest of 1 goal

Was this predictable from the start of season 20/21? Well we now know for sure although it was blatantly obvious at the time that Eddy was a want away, dreaming of the EPL riches and glamour no doubt, I believe a good honest heart to heart by an experienced coach would have detected in the eyes a player whose heart and desire to play for Celtic was gone, he should have been sold, but I wanna be Edouard they sang in the North curve, our talisman ! he wasted 3 excellent opportunities yesterday, I enjoyed the cocky arrogant swagger we seen sadly it has been gone this season, replaced by hesitancy, a lack of confidence, and conviction, I hope he has learned an important lesson never think your gifts are there to be switched on and off like a switch, French Eddys disinterested poor attitude went on for far too long this season, it has cost us and it will also have taken his price down, his cost £9 mill plus PSG get a percentage, I don’t think this transfer will be the big money-spinner we all hoped for.

Lee Griffiths a natural instinctive finisher, great touch, intelligent reader of the game with a lethal left foot, the 40 goal a season fit motivated Lee is first name on the team sheet, start of our historic bid for 10IAR season Lee had regularly failed to start both under Rodgers and Lennon, Lennon called him out on his attitude and condition pre season, what was the benefit of retaining Griffiths for 10IAR? His off field problems were well known to the club, our two best strikers having huge question marks over them before a ball is kicked in earnest, we are in trouble

Patrick Klimala was a development signing a player who had previously cost 450 grand was purchased for £3.5mill, can’t fault this lad for effort and attitude sadly for him both few opportunities given and even when he was selected signs of a goal scoring predator to be developed were missing, should have been loaned out start of season to see if there was potential there and if there was by regular playing that potential would be developed

Given all of the above it was clear our striking options for a huge season ahead for the club were ropey to say the least, what to do ? Well IMO we needed some radical bold changes in our attacking personnel, selling Edouard and re investing that money with some of the 40 mill in the bank purchasing in at least 2 fit genuine goal scoring talent arriving with hunger to be a success at joining a proven trophy winning club was certainly a gamble more than worth taking, what did we do ? Well we bought Albian Ajeti, a £4.5 Mill gamble, who was not fit, overweight and had no pre season training added to these problems Albian had little playing time for his last club the season before, maybe he was committed and eager to join Celtic ? well he had to be convinced dragging his heels to sign for Celtic, Albian was clearly hoping a better option was available, in the time it has taken to get this player fit and available 10IAR disappeared from view, we certainly never seen Albian this season

It was all too predictable, and its groundhog Day for our attacking options over this summer, I personally wouldn’t keep any of the 4 mentioned above at the club, now who will give us the bold radical changes we needed last summer

  8. “Celtic don’t get the credit sometimes for what they do tactically.”

  11. LIONROARS67 on 22ND MARCH 2021 8:25 AM

Some good points and while I’m aware that players seem better in their absence and I’m aware he might not be Celtic class, is Bayo any worse than what we have? I’d rather have given him game time than bring in either Klimala or Ajeti who look no better to me,

  12. LIONSROAR67

Great to see you back on CQN – I hope that all is well with you.

Re Eddie – the club clearly did not want to lose a key player at the start of the 10-in-a-row campaign, even though he was at his peak value with 2 years to go on a contract.

Neil said early in the season that several players did want to be at Celtic Park so I think that the position was identified early but the position of the board to hold him to his contract has backfired spectacularly. It now appears naive to expect a player to honour a contract but non-performing employees expect the employer to honour their contracts of course.

Such is the way of modern football but it breeds cynicism amongst the fans.

  13. Good morning all from a quite chilly but dry Garngad

We need a new manager in with fresh ideas and a touch of class ASAP.

  14. HRVATSKI JIM on 22ND MARCH 2021 8:44 AM

I think it was a “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” situation with some of our players.

Imagine the outrage if any or all of Eddie, Ajer, Ntcham etc were sold before the 10IAR season. At the time, it looked like a shrewd move to keep them on for one more season.

However, Slippy (who is still learning on the job) adopted an attitude of “we only want players who want to be here”, even if it meant freezing out their biggest asset and there’s no denying they are a squad more in unison than ours.

Lennon’s comments after Ferencvaros were revealing and it was that point where something should’ve given – shift the wantaways or replace the coach. We did neither and we sleepwalked to a season from hell.

Eddi and Griff aren’t responsible for tactics or how we defend set pieces, considering how ‘poor’ he’s been he’s scored quite a few, would we be even second if it weren’t for him.

I just don’t get the motivation for pillaring OE, there was a survey done on commentators choice of language, bias, on players, it seems athletic strong and lazy are common phrases used to describe ethnic minorities and is certainly repeated on here, where as ‘white’ players tend to be intelligent, crafty etc

    Interesting reading

Go Tell…interesting. Where did you see this survey? Was it Scottish or English commentators?

  20. i know nowt about fitba’ – tons on This Dear Green Place obviously know player and managerial candidates better than I – an easy task.

Given the Champions League monies on offer next term….

Tactics wise, in my opinion the Club might consider someone like MoN to be on-hand as a guide or counsellor for the new management team. Strategically the longer term involves much more dynamic change within the football dept but some old blood might help steady the nerves….( mine anyway!) until the new regime has its feet comgfortably under the luxurious tables at Lennoxtown…

We are awash with real money ( amounts that should make the sleekit huns here boak) that will need to be spent well.

  21. Empty husk FC

Albian Ajeti a £5M striker in full training failed to make the squad, a £5M goalkeeper warms the bench week in week out, lob in four loan players and you’re half a team down before you start. Karamoko Dembele can’t make the squad either, but is good enough to refuse to go out on loan along with Ryan Mullen and Luca Connell.

We’ve now played nearly an entire season without wingers on either flank, and the ‘wing backs’ have merely underlined the fact that we don’t have a fit winger at the club, with Mikey Johnston injured again. James Forrest a tad overweight, MacGregor can’t buy a rest and Kris Ajer firefighting.

Stephen Welsh plays the role of the token Tim well and was one of few successes for Kennedy who overall missed another chance to stamp some kind of membership at Celtic. John Kennedy has yet to make a tactical substitution this season, instead its the usual suspects, even the timing is the familiar, for the usual suspects.

Sad thing was that Rainjurz were there for the taking, with what’s left of a Celtic team along with Hampden officialdom it just wasn’t possible.

    M.O.M Stephen Welsh.

  24. The Whole Celtic Board and a few on the coaching and scouting staff let all off the Celtic Supporters down, and yes when it comes to renewing our season tickets it should be pointed out to the Ticket Office that if there are no big changes happening then it pains me to say this that thousands of us supporters are not renewing, action speaks louder than words.

  25. HRVATSKI JIM on 22ND MARCH 2021 8:44 AM

“but the position of the board to hold him (Edouard) to his contract has backfired spectacularly”

No, that was Neil Lennon’s decision, he was warned that he had 4 unsettled players, Edouard, Christie, Ajer & Ntcham, Celtic had bids totalling £50mil. for these players and wanted to sell. NL made the decision to hang onto them for the 10, he was warned that he would have to manage them, he clearly didn’t. Which makes the statement after the Ferencvaros game even more bizarre, por cierto

  26. Football’s all about opinions and my personal opinion is that any manager who needs tactical advice from O’Neill in 2021 might not be the sort of manager that should be managing Celtic.

Others may disagree, however, the whole debate is moot anyway.

“…my time here is gone…” – he made it quite clear on Sky yesterday that he wouldn’t be coming back. Towards the end of his time, he knew that the days of buying decent first-team players from EPL clubs would soon become a thing of the past and make a tough job far tougher….

20 pts behind a revived hun in the 10 season. Looked the other way on EBTs, LNS and 5WA and whatever financial doping has occurred these past 8 years. Allegedly failed to disclose the truth to shareholders. All because the plc deemed the blue pound worth it.

Worth their rampant supremacism. Fireworks all over the city, mass gatherings (again), banners all down the M8, the Pope’s Wall painted red, white and blue.

They’re back in the ascendancy because guys like Desmond that don’t have to live with the consequences deemed it worth it in the name of ‘the business’. And his willing henchman in Lawwell and Lennon were only too willing to oblige.

It didn’t have to be like this. We had a once in a lifetime chance to put them away, but we brought them back. Because the bigot £ was deemed worth it.

Then you have to read plonkers living 200 miles away telling you you’re entitled blah, blah. A fat cat no doubt.

    188- what?

rampamt supremacism was liquidated,by their own self harming hand in 2012.

that is a historical fact imo.anythin else is in yir head.

it appears by not commenting we lose

we do comment we lose too.
