  5. Hi all

I’m sitting in the Square in Santa Ponsa waiting for Mrs sTICks and the stickettes to arrive. :) For those who know SP, I watched the game today in Flamingo’s – great attendance! Been reading the reaction to McCann’s comments. I thought Charlie handled himself very well and was cool in his retort of Neil’s nonsense! He was wearing a much better suit as well! :)

Hail hail and enjoy your evening

They have scored just 1 home goal in last 5 matches, so thinking that 1 away goal on Wednesday should be enough if we defend professionally and keep 11 players on the pitch

    Satisfying result today.

It looked like Wednesday’s game in Baku has higher priority, understandably, than today’s going by our team’s overall performance.

Its amazing how sky focused on the Craig Gordon incident rather than the three penalties we should have had in the second half today.

Collum had an unobstructed view of Ross County’s , Davies, twice pulling Virgil’s top , after corners had been taken. I don’t think Davies was booked when brought down Leigh and would have been off if Collum had done his job when Davies was fouling Virgil in their box.

Efe showed great composure a few times in the first half today and despite the criticism he takes, apart from the Rubentus game, how many goals has he actually cost us here and in Europe?

The game in Scotland is not the best. Its bad enough our media running it down (we all know why) but we should be trying to promote it more.

The lack of money available to clubs is a major problem. The number of players previously playing English League 1 and 2, along with ex-Conference players now in our league means the standard of the league won’t be the best.

I have saw games in the best marketed league in the world which are dreadful, way worse than some games in our league.

Until we get a move to a better league, highly unlikely, we are going to have to deal with the league we are in.

  10. Kris Commons was head and shoulders above anyone else on the park today.

He remains our only class act.

Lennybhoy, great news about the amount raised today for the Kano Foundation.

It might be Efe’s fault that a bigger amount wasn’t raised (smiley thing).

  20. As stated earlier, with JF we are a mhan down from the get go. He is currently pants and his attitude has to be questioned; Tony Watt syndrome? Don’t know why RD starts him.

One or two strikers. Depends on quality. I imagine one Henrik might equal any three or four we have had in recent years.

Some truly awful passing today. Boy ate in particular had at leat 5 passes that you knew, the millisecond it left his boot that an opponent would get to it first. If I remember correctly it was one particular ally woeful attempt to pass from a right wing position into the centre that caused the incident which resulted in Our keepers booking. Shocking and not good enough.

We can only hope this was an aberration that affected more than one player on the day and will not be evident on Wednesday.

It’s only early season. We missed Biton who needs an extended deal yesterday and we remain too reliant on Leigh Griffiths. Between him going off and Commons coming on we seemed bereft of ideas and a cutting edge. Ciftci may be the answer. Time will tell. Scepovic, who I still think is a player lacks match time, confidence and physique.

What pleased me most today was Tierney (sp) who looked like he’d been in the team for weeks, linked really well with Armstrong and wasn’t afraid to run at the opposition.

He wasn’t especially tested in defence though and his crossing needs tweaked.

Great home debut though. Watch oot Izzy.

I felt that Efe was Ok and unfairly singled out in a nervy 2nd half defensive performance.

James Forrest seems to be regressing.

However. We dominated the game. There’s been a narrative in the last coupele of days that we can threaten Quarabag in midweek from set pieces.

On today’s evidence, that doesn’t look likely. I can’t remember more corners in a game, yet few if any real opportunities created from them, however I would have to credit Scott Fox and Partick for their discipline in defense with of course a number of ex Celts catching the eye?

    Anyhoo.

    Enjoy your evening.

  25. Looking at some of the comments on here today and to be honest quite often over the last couple of years.

I believe we are slowly getting used to Pot 3 football in a Pot 4 league. I am watching Bayern v Wolfsburg in the German SUper Cup and to be honest we are further way from that standard than Ross County are to us.

Now that is only an opinion and is a problematic equation that is difficult to work with to achieve a definite answer. However, am I , on balance of probability , wrong?

My gripe many years ago on the old E Tims site was that we ( the support) were being charged West End prices for provincial touring performers. At the time WGS was filling our side with Caldwell, Riordan and the like. However we still had some class in there with Aiden, Naka and THG.

I look now at good players like GMS and Stuart Armstrong and cannot see how they are anywhere nearly as talented as Aiden or Naka. They are good players, absolutely and will be better players in two years.

Our league is becoming a place where journeymen pros make a living, I have no issue with that as I was never even good enough to drive a journeyman pro to a match never mind be one. My concern is when I see fans today, who are spending money they cannot afford to bring kids along to watch poor fare.

The cost of a ticket today bore no relation to the entertainment on offer, whilst I know that high ticket price is no guarantee of high value entertainment, surely someone knows what you were going to get today. £20 for adults, £10 concessions and a £30 family ticket would have been correct and should be the price for all SPFL games.

Anybody think I am daft? Please do not fill replies with Arsenal V Sunderland is £79 examples, I CGAF what Arsenal charge, it is not a valid comparison.

I don’t recall Henrik playing as a lone striker.

Henrik was at his best playing as a double act.

Scottish football is about one level about Irish/Welsh football, yet Celtic (and only Celtic) pay wages well above that level because we try to compete on Europe and because we are in the UK (i.e. wages are expected to be higher).

I’ve said before that we should maybe look at capping wages at £10k a week and then reducing season tickets, just accept where we are in the football world and enjoy watching Celtic play rather than think we should be competing with leagues well above our income stream.
