“SFTB, that also needs directed at James Forrest, thought he was uninterested and lazy today, all about opinions, but you are wrong on his contribution today ”

What was wrong about what I actually wrote?

I did not say he had a good game.

RD kept him on- so much for lazy and uninterested (why did he make those sprints I cited if he is lazy?)

My point was that people were after him before he did anything wrong. They also blamed him for the mistakes of team mates- e.g. Armstrong’s through ball. They also blamed him for a poor game on Wednesday when he was on the bench. All those points are verifiable. Lazy and uninterested is just an attributution.

  2. CaptainMoonlight. I wish that was the default setting for all fans. At the game anyway.

Some of the vain popping, out of the seat reactions that you see at CP after 5 minutes are unbelievable.

I can only put it down to the drink or people with a betting slip in their hand.

  3. Afternoon all.

Just back down here and the sun is shining brightly.

Any word on Griffiths’ injury? Hope he’s ok for Wednesday. Glad too that Scepovic and Commons got some game time.

  4. SFTB

I was making point if Stokes needs to work harder, we need to be looking at Forrest as well then

Sorry, I thought today he was uninterested, and lacked effort (lazy wrong choice of word), I was really dissapointed in his efforts today, sorry lack of :-)

He was wandering all over the place, and lost our team a wide option, and shape far too often.

Right need to get ready for Tom Jones

Hail Hail, and still delighted with a 2 – 0 start

  5. Nye Bevans' rebel soldier on

A good domestic win in the middle of our efforts to make

it to the CL group stages, thought Armstrong was our best

player, young Tierney did well getting up and down the park

although he will need to work on his crossing,I honestly thought

our goalie was a very lucky bhoy to stay on the park.

  6. Killie 3 down at home to Dundee. One team I wouldn’t miss from the SPFL.

Shock & Horror headlines if Dundee keep it up. Huge pressure on Deila as Celtic left trailing in Title race

  7. Captain Beefheart on

We are a moderate team. Poor strikers. JF continues to contribute little. GMS doesn’t impress me much either.

On the plus side, we aren’t playing a wonderful side next week. Moreover, Ronny might demand a better striker now that he has understood that Stokes won’t do it for us.

  8. The Green Deila on

Solid start today although I don’t think we had to get out if 2nd gear too often. Still a good day out with the wee fella even though we got a soaking!

Only negative was the neds singing ira songs on a train full with shoppers all the way home. Just embarrassing as far as I’m concerned. Maybe we’ll leave all that behind one day…maybe

  9. bournesouprecipe on

Great three points even though they were widely expected.

Surprising line up, but with several players rested before the long trip to Baku, unlike Wednesday Celtic were in behind the Ross County defence, for the first goal in three minutes when Leigh Griffiths was brought down.

Stefan Johansen filled the Bitton role and Celtic were still always too good for County and we quickly won the midfiled in a very scrappy opening league game.

Ambrose covered at RB as two games in three days may always be beyond Mikael Lustig, and although James Forrest stayed on the pitch for the full match, he delivered a very typical performance.

With both left back choices out, Kieran Tierney was tidy enough at LB until Saidy Janko arrived , and Ambrose switched to LB, Ross County were restricted in chances though Craig Gordon made two or three very good saves, and Celtic couldn’t add to Stefan Johansen’s GMS made, first half strike, despite the bulk of possession and a multitude of corners.

Boyata and VVD were generally untroubled at the back and but the arrival of Kris Commons showed he is still Celtic’s most direct route to goal, as their was little glimpse of a striker scoring again after Leigh Griffiths., went off with his penalty knock.

A decent result in a fairly low key affair, with the first tpoints towards ‘five’ in the bag it’s onwards to Qarabag

  10. What a prat you are Beefy, can’t let go of your Stokes phobia. Scep & Ciftci aren’t doing it, a long time since Stokes was played as a striker. But don’t let facts get in the way of your prejudice.

  11. Celticrollercoaster supporting Shay, our bhoy wonder along the way on

2-0 to the Champions. Comfortable start. Did not appreciate that Ross County had 5 ex-Celt kids in their team.

    My match report thoughts:

Broony and Armstrong controlled the middle for me, whilst Kris adds a dimension to the team. Like the tricky GMS.

Boyata struggled with his distribution today. Scepovic had a chance to prove himself today and had a better second half, but not convinced that he will make it in a hooped top.

Good to meet up with the CQN bhoys and ghirls today.

    Looking forward to Wednesday

  12. Comfortable win, average performance. Passing even worse than in midweek. Both young full backs looked good, VVD MOTM, Ambrose and Armstrong also played well. Scepovic not good enough, wrong man at the wrong team. Punt by end of month and get someone else in.

  13. Good performance from the youngster filling in at LB; thought he merited playing the 90 or was Ronny maybe looking towards Wednesday’s formation. IMHO if a player deserves justified criticism then posters shouldn’t be called out for doing so which takes me to James Forrest, sorry wee man but you’re time’s up, simples!

  14. Great to see one of the legendary Lisbon Lion unfurl the flag before to-day’s match. John Clark cut a very distinguished figure resplendent in his Celtic blazer before to-day’s game which the Hoops won without really breaking sweat and won in a canter. . Hope Leigh is fit for Baku.

Scepovic looked lost in to-day’s match and Anthony Stokes on his way down south who has made a huge contribution to the team successes can leave the clubs with his head held high. we all know what life can be like if you don’t get on with the boss. At only 26 years he will do well down south possibly in the Championship. Boyata made a few clangers to-day and let’s hope he got all those missed passes to the opposition out of his system to-day.

  15. Captain Beefheart on

    Antophobia Corkie?

That being so, maybe I have some inner Elvis impersonations deep within my suppressed soul.

  16. The sort of game that the “routine win ” cliche was made for. I thought we downed tools in second half until Commons came on and livened it up, for me Scepovic looked like he is already away, no harm to the guy…another Pukki type signing.

Sat in main stand and could not believe the number of early departures? Very busy lives amongst the dear seats perhaps.

I was wondering, where is CQN corner? There was a crowd of grey beards assembled near entrance to pools office, strategically close to the meat wagon….would that be the locus?

Just asking as there was no visible signs like CQN badges or hats..

  17. Was hugely impressed by the Irvine lad to-day, tremendous pace. Surprised we let him go.

  18. Imo, I would persevere with James Forrest. He has what it takes to be very effective for us: great pace and the ability to cross the ball. He can be far more direct than GMS but I think he lacks confidence and isn’t helped by getting little support from the fans. I have trust in our manager and I’m sure he won’t pick him, if he feels JF doesn’t have the right attitude.

  19. Was at match today and would have fallen asleep in the second half if it wasn’t so cold. I can understnd why the manager wasn’t happy with performance but why does he persist with only one up front against SPL dross, This team a million miles away from being ready to compete against CL group opponents. If we get through we will need Gordon to be at his brilliant best to keep the scoreline respectful. I accept others will see it differentl but I call it as I see it.

  20. Forgot to say that the lad Tierney did great today, more than adequate for the SPFL. I also thought the two RC midfielders , McShane and Irvine look a great parnership.

Well said that mhan. Beefy’s dislike of A. Stokes is rooted in Anto’s politics rather than his ability as a footballer.

Stokes is not without his faults but in regards to his ability as a forward and putting the ball in the net next to LG he is the best we have and that includes our recent acquisition.

  22. Cathedral View on

A new season and a new look CQN.

Comfortable win today but some signs we’re still in preseason mode. Some of our defending and passing in midfield would have been punished by a better team.

The addition of Commons added the attacking dimension we needed. What’s the story with Johansen? He looks like he’s still on holiday.

Interesting to see Ross County have been studying at the Juventus school of defending corners. If their number 15 wanted big Virgils shirt that much he should just have asked for it at the end of the game.

  23. Just seen the Craig Gordon incident again, definitely a yellow card. Irvine is going wide and there’s two Celtic defenders in the box, VVD close to 6 yard box.

  24. On the way home, I heard the Radio Scotland interview with Ronnie , about ten to three or so. Switched over to Clyde about ten past three to hear the Misery Brothers ( Keevins and BFDJ). Still going about how they needed to know the extent of the injuries and it was being made out to be absolutely crucial information…..Have they no idea that RD had explained the Griffiths and Bitton injury in the earlier interview?

Do they believe people will not channel hop? Are they so desperate for listeners they think nobody will leave until they break “the. News”. By the way, BFDJ thinks we should have had two red cards today….I didn’t wait to hear what for.

  25. JMCCORMICK –

You were indeed in the vicinity of CQN Corner and it would have been nice to meet you, maybe next time. Of course a few others still meet at the fabled Gazebo…..

  26. Don’t for the life of me understand why in the last ten years or so, that we (The Celtic), when in possession, hardly ever pass the forward ball in such a way that the receiving player can run onto it without breaking stride. No, on the odd occasion when the ball is played forward, the intended recipient has to wait to collect the ball as if he was waiting (in turn) at a supermarket check-out before continuing the attack/move. Today, the young bhoy Tierney, ready to make the (clever) run to get the pass behind the opposition full back from Joe Hanson, was ignored, and the square pass was rolled across in the almost regular fashion, in order to restart the safe mode retaining possession sequence. Stultifying stuff at times!

This lethargic passing style does nothing to endear the oft complained about wide performers to the support in general. How long before GMS is getting pelters? Hence the boo bhoy’s regular verbal assault victims are said wide players, be they backs, midfield, forwards. And no, I don’t mean wide in a Bertie type way, mind you, he knew the ball to play inside the full back at the correct pace………….

    Regards & Hail Hail

  27. Happy enough with result, but a few worries, some players are lazy in their passing, giving the ball away needlessly . We need to inject more pace in the final 3rd we showed some of this in flashes but just not often enough for me, we seem content to play in front of teams rather than trying to get in behind. The amount of times JF cut inside today was very frustrating to watch. Need to up the performance levels for midweek.

Goodness me, I was so close to the power base I should have felt the vibe?

Is there a password or is entry gained by a nod and a wink? To be honest I probably will be too reticent to shove in and today I was passing to collect my ticket from my host today and in the usual hurry.

Yeah you are right Fat Johnstone is what he is and like many in our media, paid to run down the Celtic.

But if you read back, you’ll see the same negative stuff and opinions being spouted in several posts.

Scepovic was getting it on Clyde; just as he was on CQN too. Strangely enough he wasn’t getting it at the game ?

Big Ambrose was p!sh today apparently and he is a bombscare…….FACT. Well not by any stretch of the imagination. I thought he was solid enough and coped when asked to switch to Left back too……..

But naw he’s a bombscare, well we all remember that mistake against Juventus, don’t we ?

    Team ratings:

    .

Gordon- maybe fortunate today but wish he wouldn’t rush off his line to get involved. The ICT semi and last Wednesday’s rush of blood come to mind. Good saves when called upon.

    .

Efe – is Efe – nothing catastrophic today

    .

VvD – class act who strolls through games and was good driving forward today

    .

Boyata – . learning fast but needs to concentrate on his passing

    .

Tierney – good steady performance . Took no chances and kept it simple. More to come I think

    .

Broony – much more commanding today and chased and harried their misfield

    .

Johansen – still one battery short of a Duracell bunny – needs to sharpen up his passing but took his goal well.

    .

Forrest – hasn’t come on at all in the last few years – a luxury we cannot afford especially when playing with 2 wingers

    .

Armstrong – covers a lot of ground and will eventually become a key part of the Ronny team. More corner practice needed.

    .

GMS – not quite going for him 100% yet but will come good and will add a much needed goal threat from wide

    .

Griffiths – our main striker and best goal scorer.Vital if we are to progress in Europe. Converted his pen even when hobbling. 30 goals this season are a possibility.

Scepovic – would be more suited to playing for Giraffe FC – Our game is to fast and robust for him – moving on soon

    .

Commons – if he could lose some timber and a few years … still one of the few who can find the net from distance. Could be a useful sub on Wednesday.

    .

Janko – like this kid ! Reckon he could be our RB by end of season – great engine.

    .

A bit sloppy in the second half but lets be happy with 3 pts and a clean sheet – and no worrying injuries. Griff and Bitton fit for Wednesday according to Ronny – score over there and that should be enough.

  31. Comfortable win but we are desperately short on quality strikers. Sad days when Griffiths is easily the best we have.

  32. What is the Stars on

3 points and clean sheet is always good.

Tierney did well. Could have done without Griffiths hobbling off

However I do think Gordon should have got red, if it happened at the other end we would be up arms

However these will even themselves out. Unfortunately

  33. embramike says "the Huns are Deid" on

About the Craig Gordon incident, when making that call, a ref has to consider ‘the 4 Ds’…

In order for a player to be sent off for denying an “obvious goal-scoring opportunity,” four elements must be present:

    .

Direction of play — the attacker must have been moving toward the goal at the time the foul was committed

    .

Distance to goal — the closer the foul is to the goal, the more likely it is an obvious goal-scoring opportunity

    .

Number of Defenders — not more than one defender between the foul and the goal, not counting the defender who committed the foul

    .

Distance to ball — the attacker must have been close enough to the ball at the time of the foul to have continued playing the ball

    .

Think the first 2 might have swayed the decision towards a yellow card.

    Re the lethargic style:

Wonder if the plan is to retain possession and ensure opponents are tired both physically and mentally in the latter stages ? Maybe I’m reading into things too much.

It seems to me that our midfielders are largely incapable of an incisive pass.

Perhaps, it’s even more fundamental ie a sole target. A sole forward is likely to be faced by 2 or 3 immediate opponents and easily nullified.
